I have owned this lens for a few years and adapted it into my Pentax 645n. I just got a 1.4x rear converter for it and did some street photography.

I love the 200mm and it goes everywhere with me along with the 55/4 and 105/2.4. I've had both versions and they are both very sharp but the closer focus of the late model makes it a much more useful lens.

How do you find the 55 f/4? It's the one lens I semi-regret not getting because the 45 was too wide for general use and the 75 was too tight for general use, as a wider partner to the 105 goes.

@@Shaka1277 it's a fantastic lens! It's one of the sharpest of the bunch. If you feel that way, the 45 is a bit too wide for my liking too, you should really try the 55.

This is a great lens and hilariously priced when you compare it some of the other options out there. I'd have kept it, but just have a hard time justifying keeping too many lenses for a system especially when they're as heavy/bulky as medium format lenses. I opted to keep my 165mm 2.8 instead but loved both.
@Klaus-macht-Bilder_de
@Klaus-macht-Bilder_de Год назад
I think it shares the 77 Diameter with the 55/4 - I have the old version, but haveing the 165/2.8 too the 200 stays at home too often
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
Yeah there are a few lenses in the system that use it so it isn't bad, really, but it's an outlier and a definite advantage of the older version. How do you find the 165?
@Klaus-macht-Bilder_de
@Klaus-macht-Bilder_de Год назад
@@Shaka1277 The 165/2.8 is similar in size and weight und has the biggest separation potential of the whole system @ f2.8

I am new to all this and was confused by the focal length comparison to full frame, if I get a converter for a 400mm 6x7 and put it on a crop sensor (K5 ii), then would it not be the same as buying an original KAF 400mm, or is the view shorter somehow?
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
The "crop factor" comes from the combination of the lens and film/sensor size, not just the lens! A 400 mm lens for a 4x5 camera, a 400 mm lens from the P67 system, and a K mount 400 mm lens will all have the same field of view on your camera. These equivalencies are janky but are helpful eg if you adore 50 mm on a full frame camera and want to know what lens best approximates that on XYZ other format!
@bartlevenson7851
@bartlevenson7851 6 месяцев назад
this is all malarky. a 400mm on 4x5 is equiv to 115mm on 35mm, about 21 degrees of view. on a 6x7 it is like a 200mm on 35mm, which is a 12 degree field of view. On a full frame a 400mm s a 6 degree field, on a crop sensor it would be a 4 degree diagonal. Here are the equivalencies; 1.00 for 35 mm. 1.8 for 6x6. 2.05 for 6x7. 3.47 for 4x5. .667 for crop sensor, 0.5 for micro 4/3. @@Shaka1277

Hey dude, I'm after a cost effect 200mm+ for my GFX. I have been looking at these and the SMC version, a long with the 150-300mm. Your review makes it sound perfect, but not exactly sure what the focal length would be on the GFX, I presume we aren't do the usual x.78 conversion here? Any feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated :)
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
Hey! Yeah the usual 0.78x factor comes in. I use a Pentax 645 macro lens for scanning (not paying €2500 for a scanning lens with the native GF lens, and it's unusable for film scanning with extension tubes!) and it holds up well. I can definitely see the softness in my film lenses compounding with the slightly softer corners of the Pentax lens but I'm happy with it, even for single-shot 4x5 scans. This thing would be huge on an adapter but you certainly wouldn't be worried about image circle :) what will you be shooting?
@mrbigg2u
@mrbigg2u Год назад
@Shaka1277 thx for reply. I own the gf 45-100mm and want something considerably longer for an abstract architecture idea I have brewing. If it's x78, then I might need a 300 or even 400... yikes. But with the 100s you can crop in. Is there a difference with the SMC or 67 versions, or are they much of a muchness. Also, does the quality of the adaptor make any difference. Thank you :)
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
Adapter quality won't matter as long as everything fits snugly! I've read that some very (verrrry) cheap adapters can have bad tolerances and the lens can fall off. I'm using a Kipon adapter and it wasn't too costly - like €60-70 I think? The differences between the versions are fairly minor, mostly weight, and the older version doesn't focus as close. Not sure how different the other versions are. If you're looking at the 400+ you'll have to make sure the adapter has the dual bayonets! Not sure if you know but the 400 and all longer lenses use the outer bayonet instead of the inner one.

I would use the 210mm f 4 from the mamiya 645. It costs less than !00$, and would have an equivalent fiels of about 165mm on 35 mm format. Just get an adaptor.
