I'm head over heals with this camera, the lens is worth the hype, it's THAT good!. To support the channel head over to 35strapco and pick yourself up a camera strap handmade by me!. www.35strapco.com.au
Interesting video as always, Coops. Making the switch from 35mm to medium format based off some of your most recent videos. Was looking at TLRs but ended up on the Bronica ETRSi with 75mm 2.8. Please keep the medium format content coming!
I had a Pentax 67 + Pentax glass, wonderful slides I shot with this marvellous camera for some times and later sold it and bought Nikon 35mm stuff. I missed it very much, for now we have all digital.
“…it’s not that heavy, as far as I’m concerned.” ha ha ha! Just look at the size of you and your mitts! lol The opening sequence was hilarious. Looking forward to seeing great stuff out of you and this set up.
Glad you love your Pentax 6x7. But, of course, you know you are driving up the prices with this video - LOL. I have two 6x7 bodies with the TTL pentaprism meter. I like the feel of modern DLSRs with their right-hand grip so I bought a 3D printed right-hand grip for each body. I love it. It now feels a lot like my Nikon D850 with its vertical grip. I'd also recommend the TTL meter. Both of my meters are very accurate.
Greetings from Chicago Coops. I too fell in love with the 6x7 MLU so much that I took the plunge on a 67ii. You won't regret it. And btw, keep that 6x7 body in reserve. Cheers mate. P.S. - Get a 45mm or 55mm f/4 too.
Well sir, I have to say that the Pentax IS a beast unless you're Coop the Magnificent. I'd rate it right up there with the RB67. BUT! If it takes awesome photos, damn the heft!!!
Two things I really appreciate about the 67II over prior models is the significantly brighter viewfinder making it a breeze to nail focus, and the right-hand grip. Yes, I know you can buy add-on grips for the older 67's...I had one...but, IMO these grips don't compare with the grip on the 67II.
I think any medium format SLR bigger than 6x6 is not particularly fun for travelling. That's why I prefer Fuji rangefinders: big negatives and relatively lightweight. Well, they are not particularly suited for macro or telephoto work, sadly, which is not an issue for SLR.
Look forward to the journey ahead! That was a system I was seriously considering, and had I gone for it I would have gotten a late model 67 over the 67ii just on the basis of serviceability. The electronics in the ii are great, but when the inevitable happens servicing or repairing that is going to be a hell of a challenge. Maybe consider a TTL metering prism as a compromise?
Cool video man, I share your sentiments about the Pentax as well, I really loved mine when I had it. Imo its weakness is its shutter being electronic, if it were mechanical it would be the perfect 120 set up
The camera looks like a Olympus Pen F in your hands 😂 anyway I also love the camera, have shot it at 1/15 with no issues and own the 67 and the 67ii. Both are great. Also, buy the 75mm f2.8 while you’re at it, it is crazy good with 41cm minimum focus. And the 75mm and 105mm are a great setup for travel. Cheers Olivier
67 is a beautiful beast and 67II is just magnificent. I used it a few times and it hunts me, man.. I just don't shoot medium, but if I did.. my oh my I would have this monster in my photo garage 8)
Yea, mate. I bought and shot with an old Nikon F65 for a short while, years ago, but the cost of having the film developed, is just not worth it to me. I have thought about picking it up again, but I just don't think it's going to happen.
I haven’t understood the aversion to the weight of the P67. Having used the system since the late 90s, I find the weight an advantage, along with its ergonomics. And I’m a person with small hands and stature.
I have the same yellowing thorium lens. Can you provide any more info on what you used to clear it up? Tips most welcome. WRT to the 67 II - just satisfy yourself with the condition of the electrics. The beauty of the earlier ones is that there's less to go wrong. Best wishes, mate.
I went to Bunnings and got a $10 UV globe, screwed the globe into a small bedside lamp I had and but the lens in a box under the light, flipping the lens over every 8-12 hours. Took about 2 days for a noticeable improvement. But can take longer
