I attended Southwest Bible College (Moreno Valley, California), which was not officially associated, but was based out of the Assemblies of God. I'm Baptist, and going to Bible College with Assembly of God believers was a great experience. There was a lot of respect shown toward all evangelical positions on issues, but the profs would share why they held the view that they did. I am so thankful God led me there. In Baptist's stereotypes of Pentecostals, speaking in tongues is this huge deal, but it was hardly ever brought up (only in theology class, and only when we were specifically talking about that subject), but the biggest difference between myself and what the school believed that came up more regularly was that I believe in eternal security and most of them did not. But again, it was very respectful, and all scriptures that appear to support both positions were examined, and students were encouraged to believe what they thought scripture was saying. It made me look more deeply into my own belief on that, and come out even stronger. I'm still good friends with several people from there. I think it is healthy for Christians to step outside their own traditions sometimes and make other Bible-believing, Jesus-loving friends. These people enrich our lives greatly. I know the Pentecostal friends I made had seldom fellowshipped with a Baptist before meeting me, and their stereotype was that Baptists didn't believe in the Holy Spirit working in our lives at all today, so l was able to break those stereotypes as well.

You're wrong, wrong, wrong. I am Pentecostal and the doctrine of "lose your salvation" is an abomination of hell and makes salvation by works, self achievement and being good enough or worthy enough to get heaven. BLASPHEMY.
@Metempiric7
@Metempiric7 2 года назад
@@barrypatrickius Not at all. You cannot earn your way into heaven. It is by faith alone and even that faith is given to you. But you can certainly turn away. The scripture gives plenty of warnings against falling away. The whole book of Hebrews is to address those who turn away from Jesus with disastrous results. Why the warnings if it can’t be done? The warning over and over about enduring to the end, the warning about having tasted the goodness of God and turning away, the exhortation to ‘hold fast’, the warning not to ‘drift away’… You can’t ever get into heaven by works but you can certainly lose your salvation. I gave my life to Jesus as a simple act of trust in Him. An act of pure faith knowing I could never be good enough to get into heaven and that Jesus is the only way. I had no real knowledge of scripture and just had simple faith. Now I believe you can lose your salvation. So which is it? Am I saved, because people are once saved, always saved, or lost because I believe you can lose your salvation and you (wrongly) assume I think salvation must be earned?

I have to add some info about Chilean pentecostalism that is an autonomous revival, the same was the azuza street and the India revivals. And here because Pentecostalism split from methodism the majority of pentecostals baptize infants and by pouring or sprinkling. We have other differences, especially in worship are very not contemporary and even opposed to modern styles of worship, and also have bishops, and a very ordered structure (from methodism) there is usually a bishop, and sometimes also a president (for legislative issues, and bishop for ecclesial issues), presbyter pastors who form along with bishop the presbytery, the deacon pastors, and then the "under test" pastor, also have "obreros" (worker in English maybe) that are lay "pre pastors", and then the leaders of classes (a form of very small congregations used early Methodism), and also secular leaders like the leader of the chorus, women, riders(like the ones of early methodism in houses, but here in bicycles), young, children, etc. And have annual conferences where people of the denomination can join together in a national or international even, and also "zonal conferences"
@matiasgamalieltolmosuarez790
@matiasgamalieltolmosuarez790 2 года назад
And about women they aren't ordained pastor, sometimes maybe deacon (btw deacon is different here from deacon pastor). But when a pastor dies usually the woman have either an administrative power over the congregation, with sacraments administrated by other close pastors, or they receive a salary but other pastor is installed in the congregation

I had a childhood friend whose family was pentecostal. I remember they had a shrine at home where they prayed together. They can marry only the members of their denomination and marry right after completing education or simply once they reach adulthood. What I didnt find here or in any other description of pentecostalism is that women are only allowed to wear skirts and dresses, no pants (unless it is super cold). Or is it only a practise typical for a particular congregation ?
@Mesaman101
@Mesaman101 8 месяцев назад
Speaking from my experience attending First Assembly of God, woman can wear pants and I have never heard anything that even made it frowned upon. I imagine that was just the congregation you came across. Also, I don’t know anyone that attends that has a shrine at home. Again, just my experience with a Pentecostal church. Also, we can marry outside the denomination, although at my particular church you have to go through their pre-marital classes if you are to be married by their pastors.

Can someone explain to me how someone can come to the belief that drinking alcohol (not drunkenness) is sinful?
@BrokeToBlessed
@BrokeToBlessed 2 года назад
The belief that drinking alcohol is a sin comes from several different verses in the Bible. Proverbs 20:1 says wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging..those who’re deceived by it are not wise (I am paraphrasing that). The Bible also says that if you want to be a leader in life it would be best not to drink alcohol (Proverbs 20-28 somewhere in there). In the New Testament, the Bible says to not be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians. It also says that as Christians we are to live lives pleasing to God (Romans 12:1-2; Eph 5:11; 1 Corinthians also says we are Gods temples we are not our own person anymore but His because he purchased us with his blood when we got Saved). Since we are ambassadors for Christ, should we then smoke/drink/use profanity like the world does? Is that representing Christ well? In addition the only time the Bible ever says it is ok to give a person alcohol is when he or she is on their death bed to alleviate pain. Today that is not necessary due to modern medical techniques. I hope this was helpful

I'll help you out. I finished this video. And I'm like Arminian and believe people can fail salvation from this scripture I found Galatians 5:19-21 that when sinning that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians was Paul's teachings, proves it can fail eternal salvation. Grandpa believed he couldn't go to Hell, and Arminians believe he could. I'm against suicide. I was depressed also to suicidal. I almost did suicide as a 5-Point Calvinist. And these scriptures got me more hope. I became more Arminian now from these scriptures I posted on here. I believe people can fail salvation. Loving God is wanting to be useful for him much. What if a person could do that much of his time? And I enjoy working from this. People who enjoy working. When it's more likely to be boring to non-Christians. New American Standard Bible (NASB) Mark 9:33 (V)They came to Capernaum; and when He was in (W)the house, He began to question them, "What were you discussing on the way?" . Mark 9:34 But they kept silent, for on the way (X)they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. . Mark 9:35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, "(Y)If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." . This is for Christian world domination. Why to raise kids Christians. God Son Jesus said similarly to whoever is useful the most is the best merited of the apostles. Useful merit for eternal rewards and competition with other Christians. With God Son Lord Jesus Christ faith teaching, people will want to be useful for the kingdom of Heaven, which usefulness happens on Earth and if any other place. We need to help this world as much as we can! This text could motivate, supposed to be Christian people, to do all types of usefulness. Chores, volunteering, grade school, high school, college, and work. Good people, this world needs them.

A rather banal - at times deeply liberalised - form of this spirit-revival enthusiasm has become popular among Catholics. Some, though rather few, are indeed genuinely 'charism' led, Father Mark Goring on RU-vid is an example of the genuine sort (in the Catholic understanding of charism = moved by gifts of the Holy Ghost). I fear liturgical dancing, arms raised hippy-hip-shaking, beat-enhanced Peter, Paul and Mary, faux-ethnic folksy, celebrant-entertainer, D-I-Y liberty presentation is the standard aimed for (at its highest); rather more like a 1960's Hootenanny, or a Late Nite TV Chat show, than an actual Four-Square-Gospel Pentecostalised Baptist 'Free At Last, Oh! My God, Free At Last' fest. If that doesn't sadden you, well, it jolly well ought to .. because, in terms of Catholic liturgy, it is a tawdry fraud (the spirit of the times at work, not the Spirit of God). Keep the Faith; tell the truth, shame the devil, and let the demons shriek. God bless. ;o)

The most fundamental being something seemingly unrelated to faith which is the denial of sanctification as a _process._ The implications of saying works correlate to faith mean that you can test faith by works, which is exactly what protestants accuse Catholics of doing. All the gifts of the Holy Spirit will operate in the Body of Christ until that which is perfect/complete appears. Has Christ returned to the earth and set up His kingdom and no one noticed? No! Therefore, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still available to them that believe. These gifts are for signs, for edification, for comfort and to glorify God. Yes, that's right, they glorify God. Whoever has told you differently, is either a deceiver or a false teacher. It's too bad that you allow yourself to be lied to without even bothering to search the scriptures, and testing those spirits. Be a Berean.

Yes tongues ceased after the first century. When the Church can speak the gospel in all the languages of the world, there's no need for the stopgap of tongues. And, historically, tongues did cease. I don't think God brought back tongues in the 20th-century just to give divine legitimacy to slimeball Pentecostal pastors. And, honestly, anyone who is willing to think gibberish is actual language is a clown.

Assemblies of God are the more civilized and middle-class Pentecostals. I don’t believe in their version of speaking in tongues and they believe you have to work your way to heaven. Believing you can be lost again is the same thing as working your way to heaven.

The Pentecostal beliefs are based upon the three things to be saved, full submersion in water by baptism, repentance, and being filled with the Holy Ghost. If a church doesn’t believe and preach those thing are key to being saved then they aren’t Pentecostal and aren’t going to be saved in the end.

Women pastors are incompatible with the Bible. Premillennialism is contrary to Christianity. And, their tongues is nonsense. Nope, Pentecostals are not theologically sound at all.

@@SpiritLife Hi! I’m a Pentecostal so I guess I speak from a biased perspective. But I personally have observed a great care taken by the Pentecostal church to adhere to the bible and all of its teachings. Other church denominations that I have attended seem to have a tendency to elevate their tradition and comfort so much that they usurp the format the Bible gives us for praising God. I definitely recommend giving Pentecostalism a look, God bless you all :)
@SpiritLife

@@nathanlitvin2033 that's been my experience too. I've been involved at charismatic non denominational churches for the past 20 years. I respect anyone who believes the Bible regardless their "denomination" label. But I feel like more and more as the Lord refines His bride in America, the old denominations will fizzle out and more Christians will be united under the Bible alone. Liberal "denominations" will all but disappear. There will be a more clear distinction between true believes and the unsaved
