The average price of a brand new car is about $7000 higher than it was three years ago at about $47,000. On top of that, maintenance costs on vehicles have risen 8.2% year over a year meanwhile, car insurance has risen a whopping 22 1/2%. Between all these expenses just to keep your car on the road people cannot afford to buy new cars so they are driving them until the wheels fall off..

im a mechanic. I can tell you 100 percent that the cars built in the 90s are far superior and more reliable than cars built in 2020. The quality just isnt there. they cheap out on materials plus there are too many modules and electronics that fail
@matthewfusaro2590

That's very true. My favorite car from the 90's is the Jeep Cherokee classic. They have a straight 6 that runs forever. If you are lucky to find one with a manual transmission, you can potentially put 300,000 miles on the car without any major problems.

In the early 2000s a lot of my friends (like myself) got student loans. I bought beater after beater and put money towards rent/paying off my loan. A lot of them lived with their parents still and bought all new cars. They laughed at my beaters (which remain far more memorable today than their... Altimas? I don't even know) - fast forward 20 years, I still have one of those beaters (I rebuilt it and engine swapped it), live in my own home, still drive frugal cars, and am able to go on vacation 2-3 times a year with my family. I even survived a failed marriage (it was actually a decent breakup), all while the Altima club still drive very nice and late model BMWs and Audis, are single (one got married, no kids) , and live with their parents (the married guy rents). Funny, huh?

Not sure what you mean, but buying a new car and turning them in 3 years later is the most expensive way to transport yourself around. I have three vehicles all older than 2016 and all paid off for 7 plus years now. No payments. I can't remember the last time one of them left me stranded. If one does, I call the tow truck. For 2-3 thousand, it will be fixed. That is probably 3 or 4 car payments. I have gone 18-24 months with no major repairs. I don't keep up with maintenance either. Use and abuse.

To my own research In USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.

Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.

@@thelastmohicaneagleeye6581 Your understanding is FALSE. 1) It cost taxpayers almost $3 Billion. 2) It removed probably tens of thousands of vehicles that could have instead been repaired, causing a NET LOSS of good reliable affordable vehicles for middle and lower class people. 3) The total carbon emissions reduction was effectively zero, and could be argued to have been counter productive because producing a new vehicle is less eco-friendly than fixing an old lesser efficient one. Even the most fuel efficient cars, are rarely more environmentally friendly than keeping an older working one e.g. even improving MPGs from 15 to 30, requires around 10 years or 100,000 miles to break even because it takes a LOT of energy/oil to manufacture a new car. Consider, many new cars don't last 10 years, so those are all losses.... Anyway, the point is that the lower/middle classes all got hurt by the program, which had little if any positive impact.

It helped that I lived in an area that had great public transport. Once in awhile I would rent a car for a day or get an Uber ride if I really wanted to. Michael you are right on target with this. Two years ago, at the beginning of the sanctions against Russia, The Duran pointed out a month by month slow down of our Western economies. They started with the increase of gas, to food, to job loss to homes. They said in the first few months the masses won’t notice, but give it 6 months people will start seeing that prices have skyrocketed and in two years they won’t even recognize their country. Well, as a Canadian and your neighbour, I can honestly say I no longer recognize my country. We can’t get to the polls fast enough. Whatever is going on, is by design.

I am a diesel mechanic and I drive a 2003 excursion. It has 170,000 miles on it, it's been paid off for a LONG time. It will be my only and last vehicle. I have customers who have purchase new diesel pickups that cost between 80 and 100,000.00. Their payments are well over 1,000.00 a month! Many of the emissions systems sensors are already on national back order! In addition, any vehicle built after 2016 has an automatic engine shut off that can be triggered wordlessly and remotely. That's right, if Big Brother decides you aren't going to drive your car, they can just push a button and shut it off. But of course they would never do that right?

No one needs a new car. I'm 71, and have only bought one new vehicle, a 1982 Econoline van. In 2007, while driving across the 7 mile bridge my front axle spindle snapped and I lost a wheel. Since my Ford warranty had expired, once I scraped to a stop, I realized that I would need a replacement vehicle. Only one wheel came off, but I can honestly say that I drove the wheel off my Ford. Here is a tip: Conchs, cops, and especially conch cops don't appreciate you parking on the 7 mile bridge and blocking both lanes in a 3 wheeled van. Who knew? They have strange parking rules in Monroe county. Like Anita Bryant used to sing, "Be a friendly Floridian, put on a sunshine smile". I didn't see anyone smiling that day, not even the cops that eventually showed up and wrote me a ticket for Hazardous Parking. Good thing I was a local, they aren't so friendly if you aren't.
