People Are LOSING THEIR HOMES TO THESE RISING COSTS

More and more people are being forced to sell their homes due to the phantom cost of homeownership rising too high unexpectedly. These are usually things like homeowners insurance increases, property tax increases, special assessments, or unexpected repair cost. For a long time these costs were relatively stable, but over the past few years they have been skyrocketing.

I just had to pay $6,000 for a new water Filtration system in Southwest Florida and that's after a different scumbag charged me $2500 for a filter a year ago that was supposed to rectify the issue but made it worst. The costs are crazy, they're going to get worst by orders of magnitude and in the near future we won't even be able to get replacement parts to repair our homes as they are now. Living where I do I have tried to take steps to negate the issues as much as possible such as getting window unit air conditioners to use when our central is not able to be repaired anymore or when a new system isn't an option. It's a good alternative that I have already used after power outages after Hurricanes. Window units aren't cheap but are less expensive then a new central HVAC unit. Around $4-500 each and I am trying to get up to 6. 3 to use when needed and 3 to back those up... I guess we'll see if it was a good idea or not but Southwest Florida gets HOT and HUMID in the summer and dogs suffer greatly in the heat

Aloha from Hawaii Michael! I’ve been living in Hawaii for almost 20 years. A veteran who was stationed here and decided to make it my home after. Got married and started a family. I was paying 975 for rent in 2011. I am now paying 2300 a month for rent. That’s not including water, sewage, trash, and electric bills. That’s over 3000 a month. The average new home is over a million on Oahu. Locals born and raised are living in generational homes with three sometime 4 generations. As an educator my pay check increased by 3-5% a year while the cost of living has doubled in the last ten years. An exodus of teachers are leaving the state while others are retiring. Many of my teacher friends are even leaving the profession looking for better pay.

My parents were very smart... They bought a fixer upper that had been gutted and vacant for two years... pipes burst and flooded, some dead animals in the attic, kids had used the house as a hangout. The basic bones of the house were sound. They bought if for $23K fixed it up for about $43K with them doing most of the work. They paid it off in 5 years. It is in a lower income neighborhood neighborhood and the taxes are $650 a year. Taxes only $1150 a year. They planned this because they told me what they saw coming in the future... They saw all of this way back in 2008 after the housing crash. Their home cost is only 9% of the income. I remember everyone around them telling them they should buy a $250K home because they could easily afford it. They said "NOPE! That is just a debt trap. We will live simply and say below our means" I highly respect them, and they do not worry when many of those who were advising them to go for that $250K home are losing their homes and are in a panic.

Montana resident here. Our Property taxes doubled in two years, home insurance went up $75 a month. Gas still $1.50 higher than 4 years ago. Because we're a food growing wasteland we routinely spend $1.99 on one single avocado, $4 on a head of lettuce, one loaf of bread is $5, a box of Rice Chex is $6. We will drive to a larger city 1-2 times a month for cheaper groceries but that's a 3 hour RT. We had a very minor insurance claim to help out with some water damage from freezing and thawing and condensation. Just needed to fix a small section of drywall and paint...took two months and 4 phone calls to get a pay out. We've never ever requested insurance help until now and they just dragged their feet. But Here's the kicker: our governor claimed that his property in Bozeman as an agricultural producer, so his property taxes went down while his neighbor's property taxes went up to $12K a year. Can't make this up. We've been trying to move, can't sell our house even after a $50K cut. Good times.

also boomers (and older generations way more) social security are heavily subsidized by gen x and following generations. The rate that we pay now wasn't put into effect until 1990 (right around when genX was hitting the workforce) 12.4% Social and 2.9% capped at a percentage of 51300 (equivalent to 123k today) with massive cap increases past that as well. When boomers were hitting the workforce around 1970 the rate 8.4% and 1.2% and those percentages were capped at a measly percentage of $7800 (equivalent to 63k today). Watch an older boomer go REEEE! when you tell them they didn't pay their fair share of social security. Boomers overall voted for policies that cut spending for the following generations as well as ballooned the debt that again will be stuck with younger generations. So anytime I hear of older generations not affording stuff I can't help but think "wow! how bad of decisions did you make that you are having a hard time when you were playing the game on easy mode."

The rising cost of food is what's effecting the poorest of the poor the most. I'm running out of food, if I buy food, then I run out of toilet paper, soap, how am I supposed to pick from food or toilet paper, or blood pressure meds ?

In Oregon we have the property taxes capped at no more than 3% increase per year. The state tried to pass some laws that not only removed the cap but also allowed the state to tax personal property. Thanks to social media people spread the word and it failed. I believe that it's extremely important to get involved in the small local elections and give good people the power to make decisions for you. We also voted for term limits for city council and mayor and the democrats and progressives in our city are super unhappy and angry. This was a couple of years ago, this year they put it on the ballot to extend the term limits, it failed. I'm 60 and never in my life would have thought that I would have to get involved in politics. But if regular people like me don't get involved, there're others who are going to look only after their own interests and will ultimately be in a position to tell YOU what time of day it is. Pay attention folks, vote for good people for school boards and city council....

In Florida if you buy a home and file a homestead exemption the max property taxes can go up is 3% per year. Secondly if your property has no mortgage you can choose not to have insurance. That solves both problems.

That is because water is very expensive in CA and we have a finite amount of water... most if it goes to the Central Valley for 80% of the veggies American eat. 1 almond takes 1 1/2 gallons of water to make and we have crap tons of groves in the centeral valley that cooperations are getting rich off of. They should not be allowed to grow almonds in CA period.

The rate of inflation may have slowed, but things are at least 30% higher than they were 4-5 years ago. And they're not coming down. All the government stats are nothing but bull💩. "The True Rate of Unemployment (TRU) Out of the Population, as defined by LISEP, measures the percentage of the whole U.S. population that is functionally unemployed. Using data compiled by the federal government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the True Rate of Unemployment Out of the Population tracks the percentage of the U.S. population (age 16 and older) that does not have a full-time job (35+ hours a week), or has a part-time job but wants more hours, and does not earn a living wage, which is conservatively pegged at $25,000 annually before taxes. True Rate of Unemployment Out of the Population vs. Headline Rate of Unemployment True Rate 52.3% Headline Rate 39.8%"

I bought my 1965 single-wide mobile home in the 80s. I tried to sell it a few times and ended up living in it after a breakup. Yesterday, a renovated 2 bed/2 bath 1970s manufactured home was listed at $218k. Insane! The land owners are in retirement age and could sell at any time. Do not buy a mobile/manufactured home if the park looks run down. It means the original owner is long gone and the current owner doesn't care. Fortunately for me the low cost of living in the park helped me to invest in an amazing retirement. Land in CA is too valuable for mobile homes.

Come to Vancouver bc. Flipped through the real estate news. About Km from the city of Vancouver east a 1970 mobile home 2 bedroom 1 bath 470.00.00 without lot fee. My heart just aches for any one that’s hurting housing wise. Not all baby boomers are well off. The early baby boomers raised there there kids basically until entering high school plus people had more kids bag then and lived on one income. But I know it’s much harder today just to make ends meet.
