We live in a world where 97% of peoples income is not keeping up with inflation. Yet were constantly being told daily that this is the greatest economy ever. I guess maybe only for 3% of people whose wages are actually outpacing inflation. What about the rest of us? Once again is this a sign of a strong economy? I don't think so...

The only American who won't acknowledge this Administration's failed economic policies is Joe Biden. "Shrink-flation' is the least of our worries compared to rising rents and stagnant wages, but it is an undeniable indicator of how bad our inflation has gotten. I have $100k that i like to invest in a non-retirement account, any advice on that?

Home prices will come down eventually, but for now; get your money (as much as you can) out of the housing market and get into the financial markets or gold. The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult. Home prices will need to fall by a minimum of 40% (more like 50%) before the market normalizes. If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets.

You are waiting for the stock market to go down - but you worry that if you buy stocks that they will continue going down, maybe for the next decade. I think the best way for the average person to deal with inflation and wages that aren't keeping up is to get off the finance train. Stop financing. Stop carrying a balance on credit cards. Keep your car after is paid off, then don't buy another car until you can buy it outright. Most people have no idea the impact of interest and finance charges on their life. Stop buying collectibles and junk. Stop buying big expensive houses just because the bank will give you a loan. Do live below your means, buy quality and usefulness.

This is what I do. I have an 8 year old car, paid off, only debt I have is my mortgage and I have a credit card through my bank that I only use for gasoline and oil changes for my car. 90% of my paycheck every two weeks goes into my savings. I realized I am spending way too much money and if I cut most my spending I can put some serious cash away. The only luxury items I really get is Blu-ray movies (this is my hobby that I do when not working) and I am looking to just give this up all together.

@@stonesfan285 @stonesfan285 Good for you. I am blessed to be a healthy young senior with my house and cars paid for. My step father grew up running his family's dairy farm, so through him I learned how to fix and maintain everything! I have my own home shop and I do almost all my cars repairs and maintenance. Another thing that my step dad taught me: frequent oil changes are a lot easier than overhauling a car's engine or transmission. Some people tell me I change oil too often, but this works for me: engine oil and filter every 2,500 miles, transmission service every 25,000 miles, differential service every 50,000 miles - its essentially a heavy fleet service schedule. I also buy my oil and filters in bulk, and since I'm doing my own work its not really that costly.
