This is what I do. I have an 8 year old car, paid off, only debt I have is my mortgage and I have a credit card through my bank that I only use for gasoline and oil changes for my car. 90% of my paycheck every two weeks goes into my savings. I realized I am spending way too much money and if I cut most my spending I can put some serious cash away. The only luxury items I really get is Blu-ray movies (this is my hobby that I do when not working) and I am looking to just give this up all together.

its much worse now...and we in the 70s were getting double digit interest on our savings and certificates of deposit...many seniors were paying their rent or mortgage off CD interests.....again Ronaldo Reganato put and end to savings rates..

You forgot to mention that car loans were also high, as were mortgage interest rates. We purchased a new Toyota in 1983, 16% interest rate, we paid it off in one year. Our home mortgage rate in 1984 was 12% interest on an ARM, if you wanted a fixed rate, it was even higher. There are two sides to the interest rate coin.

I started my career in the 70s, definitely harder today, but we didn’t have social media or uneducated politicians being voted into office.

Yep I worked at a State Hospital for 15 years & just $13 an hour for the 1st pension..... & 18 years at a Grocery Store & just $14 an hour for the 2nd pension..... I stayed at these low paying jobs because of the Pensions.... So now I make more $$$ Retired then I did while Working.....

I made $13 & later $14 per hour for over 30 years... I could never afford a vacation or to repair a car... I walked 3 miles to work & stood on my feet all day & then walked 3 miles home... It really is hard to believe there are people that don't know what inflation is, but the reality is that a lot of people not only don't know what inflation is, but also don't know a lot of basic things that should be a no brainer. Depends on where you live and your circumstances. I make $60k in Las Vegas and do just fine but I live alone and have no car payment. Being single certainly helps.

Making 80k does not mean you bring home 80k, that $3076 every 2 weeks before taxes, medical insurance and any money you put into a 401k. Take home would be roughly $2-$2500. So now lets say you have a 2000k house payment this leave you with 2500-3000 a month for electric bill, water bill, cell phone bill, car insurance, gas in car, gas bill for house, internet, food, clothes, toiletries. If you are single then ya you could probably be ok, but with a family it makes it tough.

If wages are doubled then prices will probably double or maybe only up 50%. That's what we are seeing now, along with the free federal handout money churning through the economy.

Obviously some people don’t understand how stressful selling Real Estate is if you are doing it right! It is not an easy job at all! Sellers can use a transact coordinator for a lot lower fee for the paperwork! The challenge is finding your own buyer who is actually approved for the mortgage! Ask them for a letter from the bank they are pre approved!

Look up the average debt levels by age demographics. Auto Loans, Lines of credit, and Credit Cards. Most have no financial literacy or are doom spending. Something like 50% of people are living pay cheque to pay cheque now. What we are seeing is a illusion of wealth in most cases.

When I see people with nice things, I don't think they're rich ... I think they spend themselves broke buying that stuff... And that nice house, actually belongs to the bank.
