Haters, when Luffy becomes Nika: NOO! Being a chosen one is bad writing he shouldn't be special Haters, when Bonny becomes Nika: NOO! Luffy is supposed to be the chosen one, this makes him less spcial
THIS. For the amount of people bitching about Nika fruit making Luffy a cheap chosen one cliche, they same people sure can't stand the thought of him not being the only one with that power. xD
Saturn being a spider so he can shoot himself in the foot 8 times, the warrior god of science and technology smacking terminals with his cane….this has been a great arc for the chuckles.
On god people will look for the bad in anything even when there's nothing there. Just let them seethe and just enjoy the story separate from the -iq fans (specifically twitter)
I can't imagine being imu. Imagine you are imu the secret king of the world, and these old fossils end up not only awakening joyboy on wano, but one of them gave them a fruit to a girl that essential makes her joyboy's little sister
@@redguy2215This is full on what I'm expecting to happen. He failed to kill Bonney and Kuma. He failed to kill Luffy and Robin. He wasn't even the one who killed Vegapunk.
Got to love power-scalers that are so ingrain with Dragonball that any type of transformation is seen as a power upgrade and not for you know .. story reasons... of a little girl who never been free in her life can now see and believe herself being totally free.
Heck, I enjoy power scaling sometimes, just theorizing how a battle would go between two different characters, but getting mad that Bonnie's power can copy Luffy, something she's literally already done before, is just silly. Let the girl be free!
@@shrubninja6444 I don't disagree. I, frankly, think the shallow plot-based criticism is slightly worse than the "this will upset the balance of power and make fights too easy, Akainu top 1" bullshit.
Finally someone else says it, why is THIS out of every choice Oda has made so criticized? I was legitimately surprised people were upset at all I genuinely do not understand the controversy.
It's because they want Luffy's powers to be specific to only him. I personally don't care. I have literally grown up with characters using the same powers from comic books.
Robin was so much of a nerd in her single digits to such a noticeable degree that she got her island sunk, then lucked out on having the fruit that allows her to instagib anyone she has line of sight to. shirohoshi had a superweapon (or is one) Zou couldve oneshotted his problems and literally had to be told to. Momonosuke has a superfruit based on the strongest being alive and still isn't even in his tens sanji just IS super (more than franky) because he was born in a lab chopper just spawns in with his ultimate form already but he doesn't use it Rabecca gets to flashback flashbang her peers all arc until they whiff all their attacks, and she makes it out of the arc literally unscathed. not a scratch on her in spite of all that skin Shes showing. Out here all "Scars anywhere are a princess's shame". Luffy is out here born to be king harder than Simba, and lucked out on eating the one fruit that would allow him to do it Some purple headed toddler in Wano had the power to tame anything Bonney out here becoming a free spirit and landing the dice roll on her timeline-hopping diceroll fruit and discovering her alt-self is Gordon Freeman is perfectly fine and im used to this shit by now. This formula has a certain charm to it. Its why we watch the show and im just wondering how people are not used to it by now also.
Lmao "people are mad about a little girl being free" is the absolute best way of putting it. Bonney has been struggling the same amount of time Luffy has, we just haven't been following it for 27 years. She deserves that power up, and Kuma deserves to die seeing how she's doing great and she found all she was hoping to find and more
@@jorjusmusic2303 I hope so badly he doesn't die... This is a very natural and logical place for him to die, and die in a way so he has free will in his last moments but... I really don't want him to die! Already back at Sabboday I really liked him and wanted him to be rescued somehow! And then we found out he rescued them and I so badly wanted him to be saved... It’s funny when you notice that Luffy is so encouraging about Bonney finally being really free! And then people are mad on “Luffy’s behalf” because he earned it, and she didn’t… the fact of being FREE and JOYFUL!! It’s crazy 😂
Literally 😂 They say that it cheapens Luffy’s struggle, as if this isn’t exactly the reason he’s been fighting! He freed Zoro from prison. Freed Nami from Arlong. Freed Robin from the world government. And those are just the obvious, literal cases of him freeing the Straw Hats. All the straw hats pretty much joined Luffy to be more free. Our favourite captain crackhead has been freeing people left and right this whole story. Why wouldn’t he free Bonney at this point? 😂
the only thing wrong with this chapter is that my glorious king don krieg doesn't show up in this chapter, how can oda slide a character we havent seen in 25 years just into the background in a seemingly irrelevant panel and leave it at that
Did these people think that Momonosuke was going to 1v1 Kaido just because they had the same powers and transformation? All the polls only show a 3 percent of the audience feels that way though. So it’s more a vocal minority.
@@watergoose8305 Nah. If people actually read the series and care about it for anything other than power scaling (which isn't what OP is about whatsoever) they know what's going on and they're not foaming at the mouth. Idk if you've talked to any of the people complaining about this, but none of them know what they're talking about and immediately begin bringing up other series as evidence instead of looking at the actual story they're reading. So no, fuck em. They're an extremely small, incorrect, minority. I'm also not super hyped about this either, it's just cool, but the people seething about it are crazy.
If anyone is mad at this. Bonney already copied the gum gum fruit skill of stretching her arm out and using a big punch and that's when she was 10. Bonney has some of the highest potential in story
@@kristophesiem5336 12 Also just adding onto the original comment. Bonney and her dad have spent their entire lives believing in Nika, believing that they can be free someday and in Kuma's case, sacrificing everything for other's freedom. Now Bonney has met Luffy, is using her DF powers to free her father and is fighting alongside Luffy. Like her transformation is so cool when you stop powerscaling
I'm so glad to see someone defending this. Like, yeah, Luffy's went through hell for Gear 5. But what do you call what Bonney's gone through? Witnessing all of the strife her parents went through, living a life kept from your father, watching him be turned into a slave for the worst people in the world, only for her faith to be rewarded. Bonney earned this moment.
@@MorganNull-uj6uu bro what the fuck are drungs or something he was training his ass when he was 12 year old lost his first brother and after that lost ace infront of his and don't forget how many time he nearly die and bro alway making people smile and tell me any character can do that
So, this is what I said back in chapter 1113 to someone complaining about Bonney being in the arc, and it is proving to be the accidental smart thing with this chapter: "To me Boney is what's left of a tragic series of events for practically an entire race of people. She's inherited the effects of hundreds of years of injustice and is fighting against it. With the very source of hope her people had against that injustice, Luffy as JoyBoy. So, personally, it feels like a cool story. I like the themes they got to explore, and see it as a place that Luffy gets to grow in his role as JoyBoy to the world. Like how Princess Vivi taught Luffy how to be a better captain, but didnt wind up joining the crew."
I felt I was going crazy with those complains. A 12 year old girl doesn't deserve this because she didn't "suffer" as much as Luffy for it? To embody a symbol of freedom? After having a front row seat in a memory bubble where she watched both of her parents escape slavery and sacrifice their lifes for her? After she got mocked by one of the main people responsible for it that experimented on her and was responsible for her not being able to go out into the sun her while childhood as it would kill her and now in a nice turn of irony gave her the power to do this afterall? And no, this doesn't take away from Luffy it only elevates him. If his fruit is a symbol of freedom and hope for others than that symbol being shared, spread and copied is kind of the point. You don't become the most free by keeping freedom to yourself and away from others, but by helping others to achieve it as well. (The weirdest thought in regards to that is how everyone celebrates Katakuri to this day for having a devil fruit that was literally written as a mirror and superior version to Luffy's. They even fought in a mirror dimension. And everyone loves him and the great writing there. But now a little girl can resemble his form because of how inspiring he is to her and it's not peak anymore?) So yeah, sorry, I don't want to drag this discussion into your comment section, but after seeing your little rant at the start, I needed to vent this out myself just a little. 😅
Bonney became a Supernova at the age of 10, she was always supposed to be a prodigy among prodigies. Even so, it's not like she is nowhere near Luffy in terms of Haki proficiency. People are seriously acting like she could take on Kaido now. Next chapters we will see the two simbols of freedom working together to beat up the 5 senile old men who enslaved the world, and it will be glorious.
I feel like I've seen more talk about how mad people are than people who are actually mad. Either way, I loved this for Bonney and my man Kuma gets another posthumous win. When I saw the panel, I smiled and laughed, which is exactly what Oda aimed for when he introduced G5.
Ah you haven't been looking in the right places. Good. Seeing those'll probably disappoint you anyways. The majority of vocal fans in live chapter reactions/reviews and on X have been treating this like it's the end of One Piece. It's terrible how people treat that moment of hers.
I honestly have no idea why some people are angry at this she's shown she could do these things the whole arc, not to mention it's rather hype in my opinion
Lots of people: "This doesn't make sense!" Me: "This fits perfectly with a theory I've had pretty much ever since we first got Gear 5" For real though, I've thought for a long time that the Gum-Gum fruit isn't the only "Nika" fruit out there - that there are multiple fruits out there that allow their users to inherit Nika/Joyboy's will, if they have the strength and disposition to do so. My original thought was that the Mera-Mera/Flame-Flame fruit is one, both because a big theme of Wano was Luffy inheriting Ace's mission to save Wano and because the fruit now being held by Sabo, the hero of the Revolutionary Army, makes sense for a warrior of liberation (or in this case the Flames of Liberation). But with Egghead we now have two even clearer candidates for Nika fruits with the Paw-Paw Fruit (the Hands of Liberation, freedom from pain and freedom to go anywhere) and now the Toshi-Toshi/Age-Age fruit (freedom to choose your future - the Form of Liberation?). Well, I say "now," even though we've already seen Bonney use the fruit to imitate Luffy/Nika's fighting style earlier in this fight
i want to add to your theory, if there are multiple "Nika"-ish fruits out there then maybe it implies that the world is so fucked up that the people living in it are sooo desperate for a Warrior of Liberation to appear in whatever way it can. What if some of those people attempted to embody the spirit of liberation by any means necessary? What if the "Hero Water", "Energy Steroid", and "Sulong" are attempts at recreating the Sun God Nika?
I’ve had this same theory for a while too. My idea was more so about the Hana Hana no mi and Mera Mera no mi though. Hana Hana can kinda replicate the stretchiness, if used correctly, and can make someone giant. For the Mera Mera, I remember seeing some fan art for the Mera Mera no mi that was basically this theory. About how fitting it is that user of the sun god fruit, would have two brothers that both used the flame fruit.
That meme was top tier, got me laughing mad hard. ALSO Bonney turning into Nika, while out of left field, makes sense since her powers are LOWKEY a downgrade of Luffy's. She's like the reverse of his power progression, where she was using her powers on her entire body and other's, but then learned from Luffy that she could apply it more creatively, so she was doing G3 type attacks and then turning into a giant and stuff. Not only that, but she's still a kid, she doesn't think about limits or anything, she's all imagination now, and since she can literally alter her future and make herself into whatever outcome seems feasible enough, then like yeah... Nika Bonney makes sense. Now if she turned into a fishman or mermaid, then we'd have some problems, cause like wtf, where's the limit
@@youtubeenjoyer-bg3tc Definitely. Nika-Like future before seeing Luffy? She got base rubber abilities (stretching her body). Giant-Like future? She got the body of a giant, something Luffy's done in Gear 5. The "most free"? She emulates how Luffy said he looks when he's "the most free." Its not even about Gear 5. It's just her being Luffy's definition of "the most free".
Fans when Sabo eats Ace's Fruit: this is fine. Fans when Momo is revealed to have Kaidos DF and gets Oden's strong body: This is fine. Fans when Kuma's family finally gets a W: REEEEEEEE! I AM DROPPING THE STORY! ODA HAS GONE WOKE!
@@Calamity25 Yh I get that to some extent but seriously who cares, Luffy sure as hell doesn't, in fact he liked Bonney copying his power, he doesn't feel like it undermined his progress and he's the one who made his immaculate progress through effort and his unbreakable will (yes he's a fictional character but if you wanna use that argument why even get upset about it?). Sure his fruit is supposed to be special but shouldn't the ability to spread his influence on to others and give them the ability to fight for themselves be considered special too? Like why is it even an issue for people? The entire point of Luffy is that he wants to live freely and let others around him do the same so why get so angry when he gave someone else freedom they didn't have? Bonney's admiration for nika combined with Luffy's encouragement, her op devil fruit and her childlike imagination (she is literally a child) let her pull this transformation off and it's that simple.
@@critica77y77 "Woke" is just whatever goobers don't like, it has no agreed upon meaning. The kinds of people who shout "woke" 24/7 are also the kinds of people who don't like a female character copying the male mc's power. Back before they had "woke" they would shout "Mary Sue" whenever a female character did anything impressive, even if it would have been cool yet unremarkable if a male character did it.
Exactly, just because we haven't followed her journey, doesn't mean she didn't have to work hard to get where she is now. How many other 10 year olds fighting and _beating_ people that are way older than her?
My headcanon is that the Nika fruit is so hated by the world goverment, as it's able to remove restrictions of other Devil fruits. Imagine all those broken af fruit powers, and then someone injects some cartoon energy into them. Fully detaching their powers from regular reality.
People are genuinely mad that Devil Fruit user with a broken ability is completely taking advantage it, for the most awesome way possible? We hardly see great Devil Fruits being used to their full potential. Edit: I don't blame Bonney. She can easily turn the Straw Hats into Seraphim. Seraphim Jinbei would immediately be stronger than S-Shark. Long-Leg Sanji is just Sanji with plus 20 attack range.
Bonney literally created a nika-ish future during the flashback. This was coming for a long time, and I for one am glad to see it! To Gorosei are gonna lose it!
I really don't understand all the discourse. To me this is just as much a W for G5 as it is for Bonney, G5 is doing exactly what it should be doing; inspiring others to joy and true freedom.
Apart from the Bonney controversy: I actually loved the Leo/Rebecca panel. This has a lot of meme potential as a reaction to the dumbest of takes. 😂 And then yes, the Sanji-Usopp conversation was great, especially with Franky being little help in asuring Usopp the ship is also obviously gonna get saved by him. 😅 (It makes me wonder though if we next chapter get the very Skypiea like moment, where Sanji right after telling Usopp he is fine to let him die, ends up saving him specifically because everyone else is actually landing just fine but just Usopp falls off the ship)
It's so smart as now Luffy has surpassed nika by spreading the symbol of freedom to bonney. Now Luffy can go find the one piece while bonney goes off to free the people under the world government
@@MorganNull-uj6uu well my thoughts were the nika thing is less about a single person and the entire group all dancing to the drums of liberation But the story got changed to that single legend. We see bonney can control the robots. Luffy the nika legend in the fruit. Shirahoshi with the sea beasts and Momo with zou and so on. So many different people of legend or luck in position
As much as I generally dislike the sentiment of turn your brain off and enjoy content, I didn’t have any big issue with Bonny going gear 5. She will surely have a lot of limitations like an even shorter time limit and a lack of haki, but to me it works for her character and for kuma and such, so powerscaling isn’t a high priority for me compared to having a solid story. And one piece is a series that is just inherently weird and never power scaled that well. In a more serious or down to earth story where power levels were more key, I might be bothered. But not in this case.
The 'turn your brain' argument is dependant on the STORY itself being honest/consistent. Naruto saving world with Friendship Talk isn't inherently stupid - it's the way the story cannot stick to being one where it would work that is a problem (it worls perfectly fine in MLP for example, because they keep the narrative that allows it to work). OP has NEVER given a single fuck about power scaling and Bonney's tranformation was not only foreshadowed, it's narratively very important. So it's very easy to turn off your brain and don't think too much.
In a story that is so much about dreaming big and being ignited by the dreams of previous generations, we now have a Luffy inspiring the NEXT generation. The Nika part of Luffy is so much about how this boy ignites joy in others, inspires them. Now how does Oda transport that? By having the a member of the next generation, whose powers are literally imagination-based, witness and then copy Luffy's dream: FREEDOM. I am f*cking here for it.
Yeah unironically Zoro fits more as a Mary sue than Bonney and no one is complaining about him never losing or hanging with admiral, yonko, and gorosei level characters. no hate for zoro btw he does has some flaws just we don’t get to see them often
@@Perroden you do realize one piece is a very woke story right? and being anti woke which basically being closed minded is not something to be proud of correct?
You're the best One Piece reviewer out there. Seriosly, I just cant think of a reason why some braindead dudes out there are talking shit about this bonney thing. Its like you said, she earned it. Its not some bs pulled out of ass like for example, Ichigo going to train mid battle against Aizen and coming back with the ultimate power to whoop his ass.
Kuma dreamed about freedom for himself and his kid. Said kid, who has the power of imagination, saw the freest mf in the world, and now she’s finally free too. Love this for Bonney and Kuma.
Love your take but gotta point something out - the gag with Sanji saying he'll save Nami, Robin and Lilith is reinforced with Franky saying he'll also save the ship XD
I started the video and I thought "Wow, Goofy is a lot more stoned than usual today". Then I remembered I slowed down the previous video to 0.5 speed and the setting carried over to this one
Bonney is hitting real life folks with the Age Age fruit cuz they’re all throwing these childish tantrums. Heck even Doll and Bluegrass are getting in on that.
Not to ruin your joke, but Bluegrass seemed like she was chill about being a little girl again, other than annoyed and impressed that she couldn't do her job anymore.
I don’t see her being a permanent member of the crew but I’m 100% with you on this one. Her fruit is 100% dependant on her ability to believe, and she nearly lost all hope, and then the (tied for #1) most satisfying punch in all of media happened. And then she saw Luffy as what she thought was Nika… Honestly, I don’t think I cheered harder at a final page. Girl deserves to be free dammit!!!
I think it makes the most sense that THE WARRIOR OF LIBERATION would inspire other people to find their own PURE FREEDOM. Especially because Bonney’s dad is a buccaneer. He who was a slave at the beginning and end of his life seeing his daughter being TOTALLY FREE? It’s so beautiful
Whats ridiculous is that they're missing the point. Bonneys distorted future powers depend on her imagination. And as she gets older the less imaginative she gets. Now that spark has reignited and she is happier than she's ever been and people are angry about it? Happiness is a poison to some of these people, I swear.
How is people have not learned to not take what they see on Twitter seriously? People bitch online about anything and everything so getting annoyed by it just makes it to where you’re always annoyed. Why bother?
You said it all! That's Why I love this channel, It's very entertaining how you review the chapters and I love how you talk trash about Lucci and 5 elders
One Piece is an excellent story about adventure, the trials of oppression, and the joy of finding family and freedom. Unfortunately, it is also a Shounen Battle Manga, which invites a certain level of juvenile, surface-level thinking. Nika isn't about power, or being a "yonko tier" fighter, Nika is about becoming truly free. But there is a certain kind of audience that is just incapable of engaging with the story that way, and will never be able to see Gear 5 as anything other than a Super Seiyan-style power level based transformation. I pity them, honestly.
I think the criticism is more from bonney's entire fruit bubbling and bubbling and finally boiling over. in general its more of how insane her devil fruit actually is.
Bonney going nika is so poetic. It's like saturn Chopping all his legs in human form and his horrendous form. Saturn is gonna get bullied so bad once the elders go back to their residence
The old-head Gorosei, Admirals, and Yonko have been around long enough that they've had time to level up their max stamina. Luffy's doing a Pirate King speedrun by exploiting a glitch in his power mechanics and getting by spamming consumables given to him by people he's made friends with
To me, Bonney harnessing the power of Nika felt like such an amazing payoff to Kuma and Bonney's entire storyline. After generations of captivity, Bonney is finally free.
Wild theoy!: Bonnie IS the foreshadowing... What if Luffy realises he can give Gear 5 to others? What if Bonnie is Foreshadowing the entire Strawhat Crew having the Power of Nika? Not saying it will happen but I don't think it's too absurd, plus the Idea of Ussop being able to use literally anything he can imagine as ammunition sounds like it could be a fun time
I didn't really like the 'chosen one' vibe of Luffy in Wano, but Iblove the way Kuma embodied ideals of a warrior of freedom, and that Luffy inspired Bonney, passing on the will he unknowingly inherited from him to his daughter, is just the best. Luffy is a man who knows he can't do everything himself, and has no shame in relying on others (his ability to make others want to follow him being noted by Mihawk as his most dangerous trait). That Luffy helps others find their inner strength to fight for themselves sets him apart from figures like Oden, and I am curious to see if that will ultimately save Luffy from a similarly tragic fate. I also think people are putting Gear 5 on too high a pedestal. Luffy didn't only gain Gear 5th fighting Kaido, he also learned a ton about using conquerors Haki in his attacks. That complements the form, but is not inherently part of it like armament was for Gear 4.
The MVP of the Chapter was obviously the chef giant. If he had prepared that meal, Luffy would’ve have had the energy to go Gear 5 again. And with Luffy going Gear 5 infront of Bonnie it made her think of a reality where she can be Nikka too. Kinda crazy huh?
Bonnie being a good fighter makes sense too, she's been fighting the world government on her own for almost as long as luffy. She has escaped Blackbeard's ship as well, defying him and denying his advances the whole time.
I read it as an extension of Liffy’s power and a physical representation of the freedom he wants for the qhole world. I wouldn’t be suprised jf Luffy could allow others to be able to be as free as him in gear 5. I mean Luffy has exceeded all previously established limits, Aokiji can make people into ice, Im sure Katakuri can cover someone with Mochi, and Luffy’s freedom would obviously include empowering others to be as free as he can make them feel, I could see the same thing happening to anyone eventually as long as they have a similar will to let free the world. I imagine Luffy would be the only one who could control the environment, but Ive speculated this for a good while now and feel like she’s only the first to get to experience as much freedom as possible. He’s only held on to a few beliefs throughout the narrative and I don’t see why Bonnie is the only one who desires that freedom. I personally think either Chopper or Usopp will be the first straw-hats to access their own gear 5, which Ive speculated could be quite different from person to person.
