Watch the video to learn why People Are Outraged by This Jimmy John's Employee Sign! #FastFood #Sandwiches #Restaurants Read Full Article: www.mashed.com...
I like the sandwiches but don't like the way employees are treated. They are your bread and butter and your bottom line. Take care of them or there will be no JJ's for you owners.
Their sandwiches suck, the quality of the meat is substandard, and the founder Jimmy John is a POS. Anyone who hunts elephants and then cuts off the tails and holds them up as a prize should be shot. Yes, I'm also talking about the Scumbag Trump Brothers.
Very hard to enforce. If your line of work is making sandwiches, fast food, you can’t be expected to not work. No one can prevent you from earning a living even if you did sign a non-competition agreement. How are they going to even find out in the first place. You could send them a notice that you are working in a sandwich shop on its letterhead and it would be just as hard to enforce.
I worked at subway and customers used to report us for taking a lunch break .of course we wouldn't get in trouble but it just shows you how spoiled and entitled people feel.so your able to take a lunch break but I can't? People are so selfish
Dude I used to love going to subway. I respect your need to take breaks. I stopped going to subway when my area subway started changing the environment. It used to be a cool neutral place to hang out but then the music changed as did the overall vibe. Elevator music is not great but it sure beats ghetto. I do not need music with F this and N that in its tone. So now I go to Chic-fil-A instead.
Good job !!!! These employers need employees and better start paying and treating employees better. That's exactly why so many are quitting and then employers pretend like they don't know why. Won't be spending my money at JJs.
I’ve delivered at Jimmy johns for 3 months and I absolutely love it. This video really goes to show that it really depends on your owner and there work ethic to keep the store not only running smoothly but keeping it a mentally stable environment to work in. I make very good money as well upwards of $25-$30/hr on average per day. Delivery radius is only 3-3.5 miles wide so not as many miles racked up either. Hopefully employees who have had bad experiences find a better place with a owner who cares. We’ve had issues with staffing and my owner showed up the days we needed him and really got his hands dirty and was happy to help us out. I wish everyone the best in finding a happy place.
Here in Michigan - around a year ago the State legislature passed a law making it MANDATORY that all full time Employees are granted SOME form of sick days. I was then given 16.5 hours that showed up on my companies E-Hub (a form of tracker that shows you schedules, benefits, pay stubs etc) . Two weeks ago I missed my first shift in a year and a half of working here. When it didn't show up on my paycheck & I checked E-Hub it still showed 16.5 hours. I asked why - I was told that all sick time is only paid if you can show a Doctors note..... I will be filing a grievance with State board tomorrow.
Signing a "non-compete" agreement to get a job in fast food is absurd. If only we had lawmakers who protected the interests of working-class people. I'm sorry to all the "patriots" our there who love "freedom," but that type of practice is anti-American. Workers need to be free to move from job to job without concern for the interests of a corporate fast food chain.
@@porkbelly0713 but they have no concern with bullying their employees into thinking it might be enforceable. That's gross. That's the problem with big business in America. They know they can get away with just about anything. That's what "deregulation" gets us.
After reading other’s comments on here, I know I’m not missing anything at Jimmy John’s. When it comes to lunch meat and such, I feel like I can make a better sandwich at home with meat and cheese from a deli.
i work at jjs, at least at mine, my manager and the district manager care how we do. we haven't had any issues with breaks or stuff like that and the food is really good tbh
@@danthepro22 that’s good to hear man. Of course a chain is gonna get a negative stigma if the majority of them are crap, but there’s definitely at least a couple in between where food is good and the management.
Any place which there selling point is that they are so fast they get it to you before you finish ordering is a crap restaurant. Yeah it is supposed to be fast food but better food is worth the wait.
I’ve just gotten to a point where I don’t really shell out 7-10 dollars (or more) for any kind of cold sandwich. To me a cold sandwich is just something you make at home when you don’t feel like cooking or going out. If I’m paying for a meal, cook me a meal.
i just got off my shift from jimmy johns in streamwood il. great place to work. as a driver and inshop worker. I'm making around 22 a hour after tips and hourly is calculated. great management and great co workers.
If you dont treat your employees well, dont be surprised that no one wants to work for you. And no, they do not have to give 2 weeks notice (unless its in a contract), if an employer doesnt have to give an employee notice before firing them, neither do employees. Companies have forgotten that without employees, they are nothing.
Exactly. Which is why every industry is trying to automate as much of their business as possible. So they don’t have to put up with you or pay you. Good luck with that.
@@D45-y5r then they will need someone to fix the automation? Technology isn't infallible. It breaks. Often. You can try and scare people with automation but it not really that much of a threat. So good luck with that. Paying people more and treating them like people won't make a dent in their pockets. In fact it can make them more money as people will want to work. Its proven that a good work environment increases productivity. Keep your employees happy and the money will come. Keep them upset, and we'll this happens.
i remember when i worked at a Jack in the Box, a couple of decades ago... had me close as the shift manager. The kitchen staff would clean JUST the kitchen and refuse to help me clean up the rest, even when it was a giant trash heap (we were next to a bar and a video arcade, we got some rowdy customers). So, I would spend HOURS of unpaid overtime getting my stuff done, with tills, front of house cleanup, lobby, etc.. and didn't finish till nearing 2 a.m. ... only to have to be there to open and set up for a new day... at 5 a.m. Screw the fast food industry. Barely time to go home, eat leftover restaurant food that i had to pay for (you try affording rent/food on part time minimum age with no other income). Try to nap and try somehow to get that STINK of rancid fryer oil off (it doesn't come off)... I swore to never work in one again.
Well, if the humans quit, let the robots take over. The AI and the robots can work for the Fast Food sector, as well as the entire restaurant industry.
No unions are needed here because there are plenty of labor laws on the books now to protect employees' rights already. Also, unions will drive up costs which will be passed on to consumers, and some just aren't going to want to pay that much for your food. Also, higher wages, means fewer jobs and higher prices for consumers. If you're that unhappy, then quit and find something better. Fast food isn't supposed to pay well. It's a starter or fill-in job that you move on from. Also, if the money's not enough then go back to school and learn skills that will earn you more in the marketplace. The NDA for JimmyJohns sounds very extreme, and employees should get their breaks and overtime, no question. Also, if they advertised pay starting at a certain rate, then it should be honored.
You should be able to go to the bathroom when you need to, but most people working in Jimmy John’s are only working a four hour shift. There’s no lunch break in a four hour shift. And this is an entry-level job. It’s not worth more than eight dollars an hour although they shouldn’t advertise 15 if they only pay 8.
There are so many good franchises, sadly this isn't one of them.Your people are your most important component to the success or failure of your business
When my local JJ's opened it was very good! Fresh bread, good amounts of meats and friendly staff. Over 3-4 months it went downhill fast. The bread was stale, the meat was discolored and smelled bad, and the employees became slow, rude and nasty. They didn't last more than weeks after that. Plus, the amount of meat and cheese got really skimpy. Sliced so thin it was see through.
Somehow I think that's made up because I have a friend of mine who works at Jimmy John's and he absolutely loves it and it said absolutely nothing about this the one thing I noticed about these mashed videos is that they tend to say some stuff that is factually incorrect
because most workers in fast food don't work 8 hour shifts. by law you are only legally reguired to be given a break if it's a 8 hour shift. a 4 hour shift doesn't need a break.
I get the sign that the workers typed up, it’s kind of misleading…It’s true usually the owners usually don’t help out because that’s the managers job is to run the place but I feel like if they were really that short the owners definitely should’ve helped…every day, makes me mad
I don't know I have a friend that works for a Jimmy John's and he absolutely loves it and he definitely gets paid more than minimum wage I think he's like at 13 or 14 it's only been there a few months and they're already promoting him to a management position and he says the management there is great and the store is ran really well so I'm going to go with like any other business your experience is going to vary from location to location and how the place is around is going to vary on the management in charge
The thing about non compete clause is 99% they are bullshit. In order for JJ or any company to actually pursue legal action on you for braking the clause they have to prove damages and lost revenue as a direct result of you braking the clause. In other words you quoting to go work at subway isn’t a big deal and they can’t do shit, it’s just way for companies to force loyalty./ protect them self. Really is not something needed for entry level jobs, that is just ridiculous.
Worked at Subway and delt with the same issues. Not all fast food is like this. Walmart is a big one, you do get your breaks but sometimes not until an hour before you go home and then all at once.
Love Jimmy John's! It's truly the local franchise owner and managers, my local one is top notch and yes the all take breaks and are jovial and customer service is great!
All of this has caused me to no longer go to any food establishment Because simply if you’re that agitated about being at your job what makes you think I’m gonna want you to touch anything I’m gonna put in my body
I don't know about this specific restaurant in Florida but here in Kansas, I have seen as much as 4-5 employees just standing there doing nothing making you wonder how the owner even pays the rent with the one sandwich they sold while I was there nevertheless make any profit.
I'm glad people are taking a stand against shitty franchise owners who take advantage of their workers. People are tired of being stepped on and getting paid next to nothing for it
You do realize that you have to pay for the union yourself. My brother-in-law’s job got unionized. The union negotiated a $2000 a year raise. It costs $2500 a year to be a member of the union.
Jimmy Johns is the finest brand in the sandwich class . They have perhaps made mistakes but haven't we all ? How about some love for the makers and how about not for the takers !!
This is very disappointing. I am considering no longer eating there, though it's my fav sandwich shop. I care more about how they are treating their employees than I do about eating out.
Your local JJ's probably doesn't have these problems. Boycotting them may actually be hurting the employees that you care about. They are franchises, not corporation owned and ran.
I'm a moderate fan of Jimmy John's food, but I've been hearing for years about their poor treatment of employees. The company needs to treat them better, but I'm not sure that a Union would be the best thing. Unions CAN do a bit to protect their members from nfair labor practices, but they also take a percentage cut from each of their member's paychecks. This means that, while they are demanding that their member's pay gets raised, they then take most of that raise for the Union. They also tell their members to quit/strike to show their power, but then the actual workers can't work during the strike. Makes it kinda hard for those that work for fast food wages.
I used to be a fan of Jimmy Johns but over the last 2+ yrs their sandwiches have really gotten poor. I always seem to get a super stale bread roll, you know the kind that's so hard it snaps off and crumbles down the front of your shirt. A couple times the food smelled just a bit off but it made me sick. I rarely buy JJs any more. Too bad because it had a good thing going for a while. Even the employees seemed happy to be there.
McDonald's big Mac is so disgusting that I had to throw it in the garbage and they have the nerve to charge more money I would not give you a dime for it and I have been eating McDonald's for 50 years
To be fair to the company as whole 90% of these places where the stuff happens are franchise restaurants So there is a difference between a corporate store and a franchise store But also another note The Jimmy John's near me in uptown Minneapolis Is absolutely the worst worst management worst customer service worst delivery
And now it's Twitter/TikTok videos about the staff being descriminatory against Trump/ProLife supporters by writing nasty things on the sandwich papers.
Guess if you've been up all night on meth cutting your grass with scissors a Jimmy John's sandwich sounds good. Stale food at the one here but... some love it.
I feel like since I worked at jimmy johns I have to comment. About the break thing. Most shifts a jimmy johns are short like max 6 hours (if you’re not a manager) and technically breaks are not required. A lot of food places the break thing varies. If you work a double shift you should get one.
Owner goes on canned hunts for endangered species so whatever else goes on is irrelevant to me. I wouldn't eat a Jimmy sandwich if it was the last sandwich shop on earth. This does seem to match up though with the general moral standards of the owner.
Lol, me either! Your not supposed to be chatting on a phone while working. When I worked at McDonald's in the eighties the saying was "if you have time to lean you have time to clean", ain't like that anymore.
Mixed feelings. I worked a lot of joe-jobs, including sandwich shops, in my youth and yeah, the work was hard. You didn't get breaks. You got minimum wage. I still remember one manager's mantra: "time enough to lean; time enough to clean," the implication being if you weren't actively busy serving customers, you should be cleaning. And yeah, it's not great, but...that's...work. This is what work IS folks, especially at this level. It's unskilled labor. It's not supposed to have benefits or paid breaks or time to check your phone. So while I understand the frustration, I also wonder where these younger generations got the idea that work is supposed to be something other than this.
@@NessNT - Not a boomer, not that I expect you to care. Just a guy who - like every generation that came before yours - understands that unskilled labor is the pits and isn't a lifestyle you build a career around. But you all seem to think that business should reorient itself to give you benefits, paid breaks, phone time, etc for no reason other than you believe you deserve it. And hey, more power to you, but it isn't going to happen no matter how much you demand it. The thing about unskilled labor? Replaceable. You see those self-order kiosks in McDonald's? Those used to be people who thought they deserved $15 and paid breaks.
Well, most fast food restaurants don't give benefits to the workers - only to the managers. So, if you work at a fast food restaurant, you're out of luck!
Most fast food jobs are only part-time and if you're a part-time worker they're not required to give you benefits and unfortunately if we want that to change then we have to push our leaders to make some serious changes to the law which is unlikely to ever happen
BOO HOO. I work in a field that your breaks are between your calls. Jimmie Johns is one of my go to places. This is what happens when we raise a group of kids who get trophys for nothing
Jimmy John’s founder with a trophy hunt kill The founder of the Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich chain killed an elephant and a leopard for sport and some trophy photos. That may not have anything to do with the quality of the chain’s food, but it does indicate the quality of the man behind the sandwiches. So these are two reasons to eat elsewhere: One dead African elephant and one dead Delta leopard, hunted down and killed by Jimmy John Liautaud for sport and some trophy photos. The fine print under the photo above says “Jimmy John Liautaud with 79lbs tusker”. The fine print under the photo below says “Jimmy John Liataud with Delta leopard”. Jimmy John, Big Game Hunter Congratulations, Jimmy John. I’m sure all your franchise owners are happy to know how you spend the profits they earn for you. Maybe customers will think twice about helping you make more money so you can pose with a big grin alongside the big game you shot and killed for fun.
I worked here for a quick break in my 7 year commercial cooking career. Holy shit I wanted to kill myself. If you work here for what they pay you can make 3 times as much for the same amount Of work elsewhere and get full benefits, breaks, etc
Horrible quality only slightly better than Subway. The owners of numerous franchises can be found at their normal day jobs because these businesses have a very low ROI. It's all about the Franchisor selling the Franchises to those who think they are going to be highly successful. Rita's, Subway, Quizzno's, Firehouse Subs, Factory Donuts, to name a few.
I worked there back in early 2015 in my early 20’s and it sucked, customer service was below average, management was a joke, the food wasn’t fresh, and employees were looked at as dogs…. Forget that place fr 💯 Oh I left because the manger wasn’t trying to pay me the money I worked for and we almost got into a fight, because he was tired of me asking about my pay….. Be careful with were you work everyone! Stay Blessed everyone ☀️💫✨☀️💫☀️✨
None of this has standing in Texas and there are a lot of these here. Almost laughable that 16 year old kids are forced to sign garbage like this. I'd tell my kids go get a job at Subway instead!
That is common amongst fast food, hello low paid jobs in general and even some higher skilled jobs. I work for a place where it is rare to be given a break as they are demanded in the summers otherwise we would pass out due to heat and dehydration. Hell I had to take a week off due to leg strain which I am certain happened due to these practices. Yeah dehydration and being on your legs 12 plus hours a day will do this to you. Only gets worse as you get older. I dislike unions but there are times when they are a necessary evil.
@@mcclintick there is only so much water you can drink in a given time and when it is pouring out of you faster than can be replenished you dehydrated. Summers I drink over 3 gallons during shift and it is still not enough. The sweat just pours out of you. After 3 twelve hour shifts in a row you are dehydrated
Stopped by once, due to convenience. Wasn't impressed at all. I expected more but it mostly bread, two thin slices of meat and cheese. Firehouse Subs kick their product any day of the year.
Jimmy John's. Firehouse Subs. Jersey Mike's. You'd have to be desperate to eat at any of those slop shops. Massively overpriced and the sandwiches all taste like lettuce and cardboard. I'm so grateful to live in a city famous for its delicious sandwiches. I pity the poor schlub stuck in some sh---hole like Florida or Arizona, where these are the only choices. The most laughably ridiculous part.... is Jimmy John's calling itself "gourmet" sandwiches. I've had better food out of cans with "Hormel" on the label...
