Oh, I’m a single female 65 with a dog. Chrome, I enjoy your channel, learn from it, and ya- life’s dirty. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Next rig will either be a high top van or pop-up camper. Can I make a suggestion for your mud problem? My parents used to do this when we went caravaning when I was a child. Get a stiff bristle door mat. Make a small hole, and tie a decent bit of rope to it, then anchor the rope to some place just inside your door. Getting out....open the door, throw out the mat. Getting in....wipe your feet on the stiff bristles to remove the mud and dirt from your shoes. Hop into the van. Haul up your mat with the anchor rope and before bringing it in, smack it hard a few times off the edge of the floor to knock out the mud. Make a skinny place just somewhere close to the door to slid the mat when you are in the van. I love your channel by the way!

After being a trucker and not wanting to give up a nomadic lifestyle, I knew a van wasn't right for me. I wanted all the normal creature comforts of a home, but with a smaller footprint. I was THIS close to buying a van, but I got realistic with what would make me happy. So, I got a skoolie instead. A bus has been perfect for I want to be able to do. Adding luxury to your space is key, no matter where you live. True Chrome, van/vehicle/nomad life isn't for everyone. It's really about knowing yourself and being willing to learn more. 💜

I started van life by force but made it my own. I work full time and have no “build” I made it “my life” what people forget is that van life is not a cookie cutter one size fit all. It’s what you make it. It has its ups and downs like any life. The goal is to make whatever you like fit for you! If you save up for even a 100 watt solar panel ($69 on amazon today) and mount it, run wiring to a cheap solar charge controller ($17), $40 inverter for 110v AC, and even a small lead acid $150 battery (about $260-300 altogether depending on whether running an inverter for 110v) you'll experience the huge step up that free electricity provides. You can easily cook in a Hotlogic Mini, have LED lights at night without batteries or chargers, charge batteries when the van isn't running, run a ceiling vent to cool the van at sundown, and best of all; run a small 12v fridge. i did this in my Ram ProMaster City and actually pays for itself in being able to stock condiments as well as keep leftovers and cold drinks in a fridge. Way well worth the price of admission and the wiring is dead simple: solar panel to charge controller, then on to an inverter.

@@BostonBlues A RAM ProMaster City was my first van. They are among the most inexpensive, easy to drive, easy to stealth park, high gas mileage (27 highway) and truly, watching a channel like mine where I tell how to completely convert it is the way to go (solar, fridge, roof vent, bed), since you can sell it for even a PROFIT if you decide not to stick with it or want something bigger after getting hooked. If you get an older or hi mileage one, a used low mileage engine is relatively cheap to install. I drove mine for 3 years and decided to upgrade to a full size RAM Promaster since I was hooked.

Weidos Unite!!!! I have had a van or RV all my life. It has been my second home and some times my only home. I am 72 years old/female grandmother even great grandmother, teacher and director of school and children's programmers. I am a prepper and survivalist and enjoy teaching people how to be a minimalist and self reliant. I watch you as often as possible and have learned so much from you. I am presently attempting to build my first permanent home in a Ford E350 to live here in the Rocky Mts. once I stop working. I have to work to pay for my conversion. The people that judge you and other u tubers fail to learn. It's because they don't know their self worth. They don't venture into unknow territories. Life sometimes forces us to deal with the unknown or unprepared. I had 4 different fires near me. a flood come through the land i was living on with 2 wolf hybrids (we all survived). You are a perfect example of what I teach people. Have adventures (not DRAMAS), enjoy a simpler life, and figure it out along the way. Your life style is what I am striving for. I look forward to hitting the open road on a full time basic, but right now I am boondocking a couple days a week. I am enjoying the conversion process. I just got an offer from a friend to help me gut and insulate, and maybe panel my van in 2 weeks. YAH!!!!! progress. IT'S THE JOURNEY NOT THE DESTINATION! Dee

I'm always surprised by how little people think about their "needs" before hopping into any sort of full time van life. Whenever people ask me what they can do to get into full time van life, I always say the same 2 things: 1: Figure out what your "needs" are and make sure they can be met. The basic needs like food, water, clothing, bathroom, and sleep and then your "personal needs" like entertainment, exercise, and other "miscellaneous" stuff. 2: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Especially while you still have a home base. My other big tip that I tell people: don't change who you are (or keep it to a bare minimum). If you have to drastically alter who you are to fit into vanlife, its gonna be a bad time. I'll post myself as an example. When I first started full time, I was spending alot of time out in national forests. And while it was enjoyable at first, I came to despise the loneliness, disconnect, and quiet of the middle of nowhere. I always thought that as a former submariner, I'd have no problem with that. But what I didn't take into account was that there were 150+ people on a submarine with me. And so over the past 2 years, spending time in BLM and nature has progressively decreased to the point where I really only use BLM as a way to pit stop between 2 towns/cities. And that's just who I am. I much prefer being in urban areas.

I 100% agree. It's not glamourous, but you're free. In fact, the glamourous stuff is a hassle. I had a fully equipped Class B, but the dumping and winterizing were such a hassle I just put plastic bags in the toilet and did it the basic way. So much easier! There were frustrations, but the rewards were greater. I can't wait to get back out on the road after serious health problems sidelined me. Next time I plan on being out forever, hassles and all. I have a Jack Russell terrier and live right on the beach at the moment with the same problem except it's sand but a little Mat outside the van might solve your issues. Have a fantastic weekend

Hey Chrome, appreciate your videos, have been watching for a number of years. You are one of the you tubers who shows more than average, and it is appreciated. However, I do also get the other persons point. One of the things people need to think about when watching you or other youtubers, is that there is a significant difference in National parks and recreational, open space and parking between Canada and the USA. There are fewer and fewer places to overnight in a USA state or National park. Law enforcement and the overall community are becoming more and more aggressive with those that do stealth parking. I'm just sayin, that I love the places you overnight. Many are just beautiful, surrounded by Nature. With a US population of 332,403,650 vs Canada 38,929,902, space, overnight camping permits and free camping are at a premium.

Hi Chrome! I’m not a Van dweller but I’m a Van camper. I just made a video recently on using your van space wisely, keeping it tidy and clutter free, clean and how it’s a daily task to keep your van clean and clutter free. I have a vacuum as well and use it daily. It’s important to me to have a clean space to camp in. I cracked up when you almost forgot your gadget on the roof! I forgot my outdoor magnetic thermometer 2x! I’m on my 3rd one! 😳😬🤦🏼‍♀️ One thing I swear by is having a small throw rug right inside the van door that I use to step in on. It’s an absorbent type rug and it has really helped with keeping the dirt, and muck out of the van. I step in on it and leave my shoes in it. Then I shake it out when needed. It’s very helpful, especially is wet places or rainy days. What a beautiful camping spot! I love Lake Superior! I travel the shores of the Great Lakes, rock hunt and Van camp along the way. I stealth camp in the cities I drive through and also stay at campgrounds. I’m completely self sufficient when I’m on the road. Power, fridge, kitchen, water, toilet, bed and all the gadgets that help make my van camping experience fabulous! And you’re right, not everyone can just get in their vehicle and take off on an adventure or live in their vehicle. It take a versions amount of “chill” and flexibility. I love small spaces! But even more o love clean and tidy small spaces. Anyhow, great video! Have a fabulous day! 😃🙌🏼💯
