Howie from the Benchwarmers wasnt albino, he was a panicky guy who had an intense phobia of the sun/sunlight. I don't remember anyone in the movie saying Howie was albino...

How in the world did they film this video and not include Tobias Whale from black lightning? Sure he's evil but he is a real person with albinism and the most current character.
I'm hoping they'll do another one withTV shows because Tobias is evil af but he's a great character, and his entire story isn't just 'hey look! albino!'
They said “no one will research this for themselves” and then there’s me, who things albinism is amazing and looked up as much as she could to know about it!
@@rosepetunia1829 They're ghost programs made into assassins. They phase through objects. The Matrix wasn't making an offensive take or outright making fun of actual albino people, like in some of the other examples.
Bogdan Mihalcea many people with albinism have extremely poor vision or are even blind so before you make ignorant comments you should know what you’re talking about

Having a friend that's from Africa, he had to escape from his county and come to Greece and save himself because in his county they believe that his bones have magical abilities and tried to kill him. Now he is happily married in Greece and has a little girl that has albinism as well.
ROSA I’m in the video. I thought it was great that AHS cast real people with Albinism on the show. I know the 4 actors who were on the show personally. All of them have been acting in other projects as well. Sir Maejor is on a new show on Netflix I believe.
I saw an asian girl irl with albinism once. I didn't immediately think about how weird she looked but how cool she looked- she had the most beautiful blue eyes too
As an albino meself i have never met an Asian Albina. But when i went to Hong Kong and then Seoul in my 20s , random people would ask me whether i was unwell. I think me being albino and also having a deep hued dark skinned Black wife , we are both tall. In Asia people stared at us ALLLLL the time , asians also had this thing where they'd approach us and want to take pictures of us ,
I still remember when i was like 6 going into food lion with my mom and their was a girl there i couldn't stop staring at She was sooooo pretty and she had the most beautiful pink eyes. That was the day i learned about some people being albino and that their eyes could appear pink. 20 some years later i still think she was one of the most beautiful people i have ever seen.
I think albinos people should play the albinos character if there is one, but they should also play other roles with no link with their albinism. Not only for them to have representation, but also for us, to prevent us from ignorance that often lead to discrimination and violence. So, more representation would be a great improve for everyone!
Specially in older action movies I have noticed evil guys seem to have albinism, not sure if it's good representation. As example I recently watched Foul Play and Lethal Weapon, not sure if the characters where supposed to have albinism but the they where called albinos, it kind of made me feel uncomfortable because they where connecting a genetic condition with being a evil psychopath, like albinism is very rare but why are there several movies where the evil guy supposedly have albinism. Not that the movies where serious, I just noticed this because I haven't seen characters with albinism in other types of movies.
i knew someone who had albinism growing up but i didnt know he had it lol, never noticed tbh. But i also have never seen it in movies except for greatest showman
Roflmao Tanadada the albino guys are in both of the seasons you haven’t watched yet they work for the witches to help with people being burned at the stake
There is always a comment on videos with people who are different where it says how they think one person in the video is beautiful,ALWAYS,never fails.

Our bodies are just vehicles that our souls drive around. Isn't it a shame that some people treat others poorly just because of what their bodies look like, instead of caring about that person's soul?
Sam Em i use to believe in souls, but no proof so we really dont know, i doubt they’re real tho, highly doubt it. I think we’re just flesh organs and bones and shi
My friend at school had white eyes because she had this it scared me at first . I was told it's rare for them to have white eyes also she has nothing wrong with seeing at all . I was great to see her.
coolio diablo dude there are less then 20000 albinos in America there are more professional boxers and mma fighters then that what are you on about seeing them all the time
coolio diablo actually it’s very rare, there are less then 20,000 people in the U.S with Albinism. There are like 327 million people in the U.S so that’s like .000005 percent of the population.
Ok, so the idea is to make witty youtube comments, hoping to draw attention to your channel that is just a place for state propaganda videos. Weird flex but ok.
Buzzfeed, thank you so freaking much for this video. As someone with albinism, having such a public video shining a light on how albinism is portrayed in Hollywood means so much. You have no idea how much these film representations impact young kids growing up with this condition, and it’s been an ongoing issue within the community. To have other people recognize is and make this video possible gives me hope that better representation outside the community is possible.
one of my OCs is albino and i might do a comic with her, could someone please give me some tips or advice for writing her properly? i know it mostly comes down to research, but if anyone here is albino and wants to let me know anything beforehand, i’d appreciate it 😊 she is working for the villains but more than anything she’s a complex morally gray character, and she’s very sweet and bubbly. she’s also a pop star and is friends with the heroes cause they don’t know she works for the main villain.
These comments made me realize that people are really rude when they don't know about something. How hard it is for you to just not make a negative comment?
@@King0fgames_ i meant negative towards the albino community! i'm sorry if it seemed rude haha, i just felt bad because of all the racism in the comments
My bestfriends albino which is why I watched this video and I found it very interesting, because I never thought about how those characters could effect her. Especially being someone who has never judged her for it.
I don't think it was like they were acting oppressed or anything... I just think that they wanted to be represented there wasn't any "oh I'm so oppressed, so sad" it was just "i wish that there were more movies/tv shows that represented us correctly" you know?
As someone with a facial difference I can relate. It’s 2019 and there has been NO positive representations or accurate representation of those with facial differences in media.
UniquelyPenny A.K.A Penny Loker what kind of representation do you even want ? This is the stupidest comment I’ve ever read. Fair enough you were born different but you are like 1 in a million. you want to have more characters on tv with facial differences but why so people won’t make fun of you ? What about people born with no limbs ? Not trying to be rude but you’re being silly. Enjoy your life, that’s all that matters.
@@shermarkijames My left pinky toe is slightly smaller than my right pinky toe. It's disgusting that people with small left pinky toes don't get more attention and roles in acting!
You pointed out the time stamp, but the minute that I saw the two of them, together, I instantly thought of the Matrix twins throughout the rest of the video, even before I saw the 4 of them around 4:30.
Is one of the symptoms of albinism problems with vision or eyes? It looked like a couple of the people here had trouble focusing or there eyes looked a little crossed. I don't know much about it and I'm just curious....
Yes, albinism also affects the eyes. Due to no pigmentation in the eyes, the fovea, part of the eye responsible for sharp vision, is not fully developed. Also the lack of pigmentation causes photo phobia, bright light makes it uncomfortable to endure. Also strabismus causes the eyes to appear like they are not tracking together. Things we with albinism are "blessed" with. LOL
It is 😁 it's due to having sensitive eyes and often times a lazy eye from the mutation. Due to having no pigment in their eyes they have very sensitive eyes and poor eye sight. Its an interesting read for what causes this if you ever look into it. Albinism and Gingerism are very similar as well for the mutation so we (I'm a ginger) have bad eyes usually. Hence why a ton of gingers and albinos need glasses
I don't agree that only people with albinism should play these roles. It's acting; you're impersonating other people. Like for example not all blind characters have to be portrayed by blind people
Well they hired blind people to play the blind folks in Birdbox. One of my friends was in it. Casting real people who represent the role is not as difficult as you think it is.
@@jreneejrenee I didn't want to say you shouldn't. I just think it's better not to exclude anyone who could play the role and decide who fits best no matter if they actually are blind, albino or whatever or not
TA S yea sure I’d like to see any person painted black to play a black person because they can play the part better than a person who is actually black then. No because that doesn’t make sense. Most roles are cast physical attributes that match the character and the person playing that part. Why would there be a need to paint anyone’s skin color because they were “the best fit”? A lot of times when a specific look is needed, they will even take someone without any acting experience. Because acting really isn’t that difficult and they can be coached to play the role. It’s not that hard.
I have always looked at albino people in awe 'cause jesus christ they are beauties. My boyfriend is an albino and he's gotta be the most handsome I ever met. God damn, I love him so much...
My mom has a similar skin condition called Vitiligo the condition Micheal Jackson and Winnie Harlow has so I relate very well with people with Albinism and defend them as well. They need better representation and these horrible stereotypes need to cease at once they are no different than any of us they just lack pigment in their skin and hair. I hate how people like my mom has been treated unfairly all their life just because of the way they look which btw they look extremely beautiful in an ethereal way to me always have always will. It's probably because the one who gave birth to me has different skin then 90% of the planet and she is my mom and "mother is god in the eyes of a child". So to anyone with vitiligo or albinism you are beautiful beings just so you know
Absolutely, we need to see more people with albinism on the screen and in the media. I have albinism and so does my entire family and we are in the Guinness world records as the most albino siblings. we should celebrate our uniqueness and be proud of who we are. It’s time to break down the stigma and brings
I’m kind of sad they didn’t react to the albino from “The Heat” they joke how he’s probably the bad guy throughout the movie to find out he’s just another guy.
Just so everyone knows: buzzfeed wasn’t saying some of these characters were supposed to specifically be albino. They were showing clips of characters that have some albino stereotype traits, and people who don’t have our condition, could look at that person, and assume they were albino. It’s happened before. I know a ton of people, who assumed the guy from benchwarmers was albino.
I just started writing a story with a character named Jericho who is albino. He gets turned into a Hybrid, meaning he's both werewolf and vampire, actually, another person, a woman named Adriana also gets turned. Jericho has these blood red eyes, I did make sure I looked up what a human albino looks like. Yes I know eyes like that don't happen in humans and the pinkish or purple colored eyes are just from the blood vessels showing from a lack of pigment, but there is an explanation for Jericho. With another story of mine, eventually my two MC's will have one of their last few kids and he will be albino. Jericho is his great-great-great grandson. Jericho's ancestor isn't human either, he was a Shapeshifter, his mother's eyes would change color depending on her emotions and red was one of those colors. The albino gene ran on both his mother and father's side. This is how this ancestor turns out how he does. Jericho mentions in chapter one how it's said he looked a lot like this ancestor and how this ancestor is to blame for his eye color, and his grandmother on his mom's side (this ancestor is on his dad's) is why his albinism is possible. In a later conversation during the story, he will tell my other MC, Adriana, that he misrepresents most albino's in his eye color. With Jericho, yes he is human because his ancestor had a child with a human, and as the generations came and went, none of them had a child with a Shapeshifter again so the Shapeshifter abilities were so diluted, Jericho was basically human. I also think people with albinism are absolutely gorgeous. It's nice seeing you all react, it kinda doesn't seem real unless you see someone with the condition.
the argument of why certain parts in movies need to be played by someone that represents the role in real life keeps amazing me, producers want the best actors not the best real life lookalike of a character...
Well in this case at least there is the purely pragmatic issue of eye colour, but also if you are going to make x feature a major part of the character then the actors and writing team need to actually have a frame of refrence, but often its kinda just like added in and its like why did you even include that if it wasnt important enough to do it well or correctly
@@thisisalbinism2666 They are more than likely very skilled, but they are not well-known. It is more than just "best actor for the part" it is about the name. How much attention will they draw to the project? Especially in big-budget movies. Now, on the independent side, that is not necessarily the case. But until you have someone with Albinism who has a breakthrough role (not main character, because that will not be played by the Albino but someone with a big nmae) then it wont happen. It sucks, but thats the way the industry works.
@@thisisalbinism2666 I'm not sure where homeless and the disabled fit into the conversation. And I agree, it does start at a micro level. Filmmakers have to make the conscious decision to find actors who fit the role. At the same time, that filmmaker has to fight for studio approval to get funding. One of the biggest negotiating techniques is what actors will be appearing in the film. Thats why you are less likely to find a disabled actor playing a disabled character in a big budget film. You are more likely to find it in an independent film where the filmmaker isn't answering to the studio. Now, the studio is only ever worried about money, that will NEVER change. It is a business industry. So unless the filmmaker in question has enough pull to make it happen, or the character is a side character, you'll be hard pressed to find it. Now, public outcry is def making an impact, but its still not enough at this moment in time.
