In Germany pepperspray, handguns, rifles, baton and fixblade knives are restricted and very hard to come by. Defend the second amendment at all cost

Sootch, I'm former law enforcement through the Florida Dept. of Corrections and I've been both, tasered and pepper sprayed and I will take being tasered any day to being sprayed. In the academy we were sprayed and had to still attempt our duties. Afterwards they tell you how to immediately eliminate the effects of the spray and it isn't water. Dawn dish washing liquid and condensed canned milk. Pepper spray is an oil based component and water and rubbing just aggravates it. Dawn dissipates the oils in the spray almost instantly and the condensed milk kills the pain and sting instantly as well. Trust me I've had it all done to me and if you want to survive it man, have those ingredients on hand and do it as soon as possible afterwards... You will thank me for this info brother.

Here in the UK I own firearms, I could even have a Saiga12 with a 30 round drum loaded with slugs. But pepper spray is illegal it is classed the same as having a machine gun. Ten years in prison if caught. Ridiculous really.

Active Self Protection is great. I think pepper spray is a great idea and am thinking about getting some myself. Just make sure you get the right stuff, like not the gel. Basically just whatever John at ASP recommends lol.

I commend you for a good video. Would like to add that I counsel people to always purchase two identical containers, take one out back, find a tree-wind blowing away from you and spray. Why? Their are many varieties of spray, some are very straightforward, some have a twist cap, some have to be sprayed in "just the right way". Point being, the time to find this out is not when your daughter is in the dark parking garage, under stress, fumbling around trying to get it to work.

I bought one for all my girls and me. I dropped mine and the flip cap broke off but I still carry it and it's fine. Nice products. I purchased mine after active self protection showed them 👍

If I ever got caught in one of these situations in my car, I will need a left handed spray device. My right hand will be occupies holding polymer and steel.

One thing people need to do before they go out and buy self defense items like pepper spray batons firearms knives is they should be checking their state laws because I know where I live if you don't have a license to carry certain kinds of pepper spray you can't carry it and it is a jailable offense. Especially with that pepper ball gun those I know are illegal unless you are a police officer. Shooting those pepper balls inside your house at an assailant is not a good idea and the same goes for spraying pepper spray canisters indoors because that pepper spray goes up inside the heating and cooling ducts and could be a bad situation for everyone in the house

The situation that happened in New Mexico is a perfect example of the principles you outlined of having pepper spray as a first method of detering but not being the only option. The video I'm sure we all have seen goes exactly like that: The man falls back, yells "stay away from me!", is followed by attackers, sprays them, they keep copming, throw him to the ground, one attacker tries to hit him with a skate board, another attacker appears to have a knife and the last option is used; the attacker gets shot 4 times

Absolutely, non-lethal and lethal tools are a must. You never know what situation will present itself. But as always, run away or deescalate with speech if you can!

Been following you for a LT and have great respect for your work here. I'd like to offer a recommendation that is dependable and inexpensive. I've been carrying HALT dog spray for 50 years. It's the spray mail carriers and utility workers have carried forever, and it does the job on any aggressor with four or two legs. It can be had for less than ten bucks from industrial supply, bicycle shops and on-line. I keep several for cars and pocket carry, even when going out to the mailbox. TIP: Carry in strong side pocket grasp can with thumb on trigger to exert maximum pressure to deploy a thin stream up to about six feet. I agree that PS is a good alternative when a firearm is not really needed (yet).

I have 2 Sabre Reds in the Car. One in each Door Pull. (They fit there nicely and require no looking around for them.) At the House we have have 3 Bear Spray Units, one at each Door. These are backed up by a Beretta 92fs as well as several other Firearms adn Hand Weapons.

When in high school in Alaska, I got shot with bear spray by some thug kids. It hurt like hell, and couldn't see for 12hrs. One thing about the spray, if it comes back on you your screwed.

I have learned that it's better to use a thumb instead of a forefinger with pepper spray/ gel, as it's easy to unintentionally aim low when using an index finger.

Hey sootch, been in the game along time now and I’ve found that I like options ....I carry a g43, asp a40, Bradford guardian 3 and fox 5.3.....not every situation calls for a firearm. Sometimes you can create more trouble for yourself using your gun to posture or even using your gun in certain situations. Plus I will totally spray a fool in the face if they even bow up to me because I feel I’m threatened without worry of reprisal from the court system.....of course the best plan for self defense is to never put yourself in a situation to begin with, but if trouble comes looking for me.....then I’m ready for whatever.

Have a tactical pen handy with a light, blind them. Have some oc in your pocket or fanny pack. A meat tenderizer in your car or at home, a rubber mallet, or maybe a baton or a mini bat are great bludgeon weapons. And of course situational awareness, a phone and some running shoes can help too.

I prefer pepper gel personally. It requires to be a little more accurate, but it sticks and no worry about getting myself with the mist.

If they're wearing a mask or shield an you cannot spray the eyes, spray the groin and just above.

As a Cop, I can tell you less then lethal does not always work. I've seen it not work. Tasers, pepper spray and baton strikes will fail at times.

I used to live in a place were carrying a gun was illegal and I always used to carry a pellet pistol

I live in NYC where the 2A does not exist. Thankfully I was able to buy pepper spray at an Army Navy spot in Queens for myself and my family. Even that however was hard to find. I had to ask someone who knew someone, who knew someone, who knew someone that worked at the store. Filled out some forms and it was all fine from there.

The other benefit of pepper spray and other less lethal options IN ADDITION TO a ccw is the legal implications of actually deploying the less lethal option. It's a lot easier to defend pepper spraying someone than shooting someone. Again ONLY of the situation allowd for less lethal...

If you have a hammer everything looks like a nail... That said if you have a nail you can bang on it all day with your shoe or a screwdriver and get nothing but hurt. But a hammer puts the problem down for good. Another good video Sootch, keep up the quality content

Here in Australia, it is illegal to carry a firearm for self defence. You cannot own a firearm solely for the purpose of self defence. You will not be granted a licence on those terms. It is illegal to carry a knife on your person, it is illegal to have pepper spray or a taser device. All firearms must be secured in a prescribed safe and ammunition must be securely stored in a separate facility. So if you were subjected to a home invasion you simply wouldn't be able to arm yourself quickly enough to defend your home or family. You may as well have a baseball bat or pick handle.

Worked 27 years in private security, we carried sabre red, worked well when I had to use it.

I've got the Kimber pepper blaster. Still not sure if I like it. Totally prints like a gun if it's in your pocket. Seems like it would be better at a distance, because it doesn't spread much, but self defense it typically an up close and personal confrontation.

The Kimber pepper blaster is illegal in California, since it uses an explosive to expel the OC instead of aerosol.

I carry a Glock 29 for bear defense, loaded with 220 grain Buffalo Bore Heavy Outdoorsman. I can see why someone would want to use this though, like if an American vacationed to Canada and went hiking or camping and wasn’t allowed to carry their gun out of the U.S.

I don't know abut the rest of your subscribers, but I've been carrying pepper spray as part of my EDC for many years. My wife and daughter too. Like the old Japanese saying goes, "if the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem begins to look like a nail". While I may have misquoted the saying somewhat, the idea is still valid. Every problem doesn't require a gun and some of us are too old to go physical with someone else and too slow to run away, so pepper spray or a Tazer are good options. I had to use my pepper spray twice, once in a bar fight in a bar I was bouncing in and the second time was just a few weeks ago when a coyote followed me into my garage after I took the trash out and wouldn't leave. In fact was acting in a very aggressive manner until I sprayed it, then it took off. So it might not be a person or persons you'd have to use pepper spray on.

Bear spray. I keep a can in my car and also carry it with me for doing my mail route. Wish they made something as powerful as bear spray in a smaller canister for concealability.

Pepper Spray: When you're about to be Assaulted, your assailant gets A-Peppered. ;-)

My sister's husband beat her for years and every time I offered to whip his ass, she would defend him and tell me no. It ended up getting worse and i pleaded with her to at least get pepper spray and use it. She finally listened and got some. The last time he tried to beat her, she sprayed his face full and she said he immediately hit the ground, rolling around, crying and yelling why did you do that lol. When she told me, i said great, next time kick him in the mouth a couple of times while he's on the ground, but she left him shortly thereafter. They were together for over 20 years. I hope a woman being abused reads this and gets the courage to do the same. Women beaters are cowards and as soon as you have the upper hand, they change their tune really quickly.

I'm pretty sure in court when you testify that the assailant kept coming after you even after pepper spray was deployed and you shot him because you were in fear of Great Bodily Harm or Death, the Judge and Jury will most likely find your actions were self defense.

I would order the Byrna pepper blaster in Yellow so it looks more like a Taser.

I prefer to use my pepper spray filled 147g hp...

I'll add on a collapsible baton/short shovel/machete/axe/Tomohawk and a vehicle size fire extinguisher.... nobody's coming back after being blasted by a fire extinguisher/pepper spray/bear spray and a smack on the knees/shins with a collapsible baton.... any of the above..... some gears are for 1 on 1, some ar for 3-6/5-10 depending on how many different selections one carries.....

Pepper gel rather than spray, and still make sure you're aiming 'downwind'.

Bear spray is better... Completely annialates from 20 ft. Just don't be down wind.

One might consider the spray sold made as strong as legally allowed. It was made to stop a charging grizzly bear. Counter Assault brand.

I carry both. I can go straight to the lethal option if the situation calls for it, otherwise pepper spray may help me escape a dangerous situation and the lawsuit to follow. I've carried that Sabre Red and am trusting the expiry date. My understanding is once you do a "test spray" you puncture the cartridge and then it can depressurize over time. Anyone else know best practices for ensuring it's ready-to-go?

I keep pepper spray as a secondary option. If I have the time to asses the situation then I like having the option. Maybe someone is drunk or high, or mentally unstable and clearly unarmed. Ive seen instances of someone at the wrong home drunk trying to get in. But also, I recently had a friend whos EX BF was getting really creepy/stalkerish and as much as I wanted to stay with her 24/7 after he tried to break into her place. I couldn't, and she didn't feel comfortable taking a firearm but did feel comfortable taking some pepper spray. And I know there are lots of others reasons having some options for self defense is something people need to take more seriously.

Excellent video but I have to respectfully disagree with you. Pepper spray is ideal for 1-on-1 self-defense but in a mob/riot situation, the Bear spray would be my choice and here's why; Those small keychain pepper sprays provide a maximum of 2-3 short bursts at best, has a pencil stream and an effective range (keyword here is effective not claimed) of 6-8 ft. Bear spray by contrast has an effective range of 30-35 feet with a spray mist similar to a fire extinguisher. Sure it's only 2% (I now keep a can of UDAP BS in my car) but it's still effective enough that one short burst can incapacitate anyone at an instant. Bear spray is also effective in that you not only stop your primary targets in their tracks, you also create a barrier of protective mist between you and other potential charging attackers. It might only last a few seconds but when your safety is jeopardized by 2 or more, that might make a difference.

I'd like an aerosol can of Bear Spray made with concentrated Ghost Peppers or Carolina Reaper Peppers. Man that stuff brings tears to your eye if you sniff it in a jar. You can spray someone with it, it would eat a hole through their head like acid. And Bear Spray can reach out 12ft or more.

You made a comment that I hear over and over about "some people not being affected by pepper spray". I think there is an element of truth that some people in corrections or law enforcement are sprayed and they work through it to cuff someone, hold someone down, etc. My point being the average perpetrator who is going to attack a woman for an abduction or sexual assault is not going to be able to hold it together if they get a real dose of spray to the face. Maybe I should say....they will not be able to complete their mission of bad intentions.
