I feel like in the book, Annabeth genuinely found cerberus cute and played with him because she considered him as an adorable lil dog, she even cried when she had to leave him behind. But in the show, she saw her skills of playing with a dog as a useful tool in her strategy, which removes the fun and cuteness of the scene, but also makes annabeth seem like a genuine soft person behind her walls of bravery and coldness Also, Aryan spoiled that there was going to be a percabeth scene in the montauk cabin next ep so im exciteddd bcause it might be the scene explaining annabeths regret

@@juliana-fu8hi I agree with you. Also what's weird about the flashback to me is that since you have Percy making the line about not being in Kansas anymore as well as Hermes reminding him of what happened in the previous episode, you'd think that the flashback would be JUST from Percy's perspective, but it's not. There are some parallels between the flashback and what's happening in the present but I don't really understand the significance of it in relation to the present events except foreshadowing Poseidon helping Percy in the Area fight.

The thing about adaptations is that action scenes are usually the first things that get cut or trimmed down, first because of budget and second because of time. The third reason is because they strive to provide a different perspective on the existing material. While I think naive bumbling Percy would have been funny for a little bit it would have gotten very old very fast. Plus it never made sense to me while reading the books that Percy does not know these myths when it would make logical sense for his mom to know the world existed and prepare him for it so I am happy that has been changed. My only complaint about the show so far is not enough scenes with our heroes as a trio, they keep paring them off which is disappointing.
@pinsandneedles3
@pinsandneedles3 6 месяцев назад
I fully agree. I think most of the audience would start rolling their eyes fairly quickly if Percy was as clueless in the show as he was in the books. I think his knowledge in the show also serves Sally's characterisation well. She is a great mom and she always knew that one day Percy would have to enter this world - of course she's going to make sure that Percy knows as much as possible about it. If she hadn't, she would come across very weird and uncaring? I think I'm just repeating what you said lol, but I very much agree with your points
@MissCaraMint
@MissCaraMint 6 месяцев назад
Yeah that only works in the books because of the engaging internal dialogue. I also don’t see why there should be long drawn out action scenes in the series. Percy isn’t that skilled of a fighter yet, plus they’re 12 (except Grover who isn’t a big fighter). Realistically their only chance is making good plans that are effective. If said plans fail then they aren’t going to be able to power through and force the issue right now. It just makes sense. And book scenes that take time describing these action scenes really wouldn’t be that long if you saw them play out rather than reading the thoughts and observations of the characters while they do so.

I do wish we’d gotten some more like acknowledgment that Grover actually almost fell into Tartarus and I kinda wished to see Hades shaking his palace in anger over the loss of his helm. In my ranking I don’t really know where it stands but what I can say right now is that I’m excited for episode 8 because a certain scene is gonna happen 😁.

My theory is that the reason why the writer's had Annabeth get rooted by regret is to plant a red herring (pun not intended). Nominally, Annabeth is meant to be a potential suspect of being the lightning thief, and her regret is meant to look like guilt for stealing it. Of course, people who read TLO know what her regrets are, but I thought it was a pretty clever red herring.

@Alexa_hope

I really wanted to love the show but 😢 well this is my opinion. - The first word out of percy’s mouth being “i know who you are” and straight up explaining every detail about crusty and his trap with the beds felt like a troll. This show is addicted to killing all tension suspense and mystery just like that. It genuinely felt boring after 7 episodes. In the book crusty traps grover and annabeth in the beds then we have this entire suspenseful claver moment where percy tricks him into laying on one of his own beds and trapping him. - the deadline passing has proven to be the most nonsensical change in the show because there are zero consequences for it. The MOMENT the deadline passed, percy should have died. Zeus is a god and the deadline passing is supposed to have meaning. War should have broken out and destruction of the world. What is the point of having deadline if there are no consequences for passing the deadline? even just the way they’re talking when grover says “zeus just going to have to wait” NO. HE’S A GOD. THE DEADLINE PASSED THE WORLD SHOULD BE ENDING RIGHT NOW. - I can’t believe that this is hades. Hades is supposed to be the first god we see in his actual godly form. He’s ten feet tall with a voice that echoes through the throne room that makes you fear for life. He’s supposed to be terrifying and they made him into a jokester. Its mind blowing to me that this is how they chose to portray him considering his future role in the series. - If annabeth gets tied up in the field of asphodel because of her regret then how tf grover not? Considering that his entire character in the books revolves around his regret over not being able to save thalia? Also what tf is the reason for this change? How did it help the plot that annabeth wasn’t present for the tartarus scene or the scene with hades? Its changing things for the sake of changing them. - i love how the way ppl justified the 4 pearls change by saying “they’re going to do some poignant scene where percy has to give up the pearl or loses it” only for grover to lose it in the goddamn dog 😂 them having to choose who to leave behind on the underworld was one of the biggest moments in the book only for it to have zero impact in the show. The books balanced the seriousness with silliness perfectly but this show doesn’t understand when its time to be fun vs when its the time to be serious. Ppl said that this is the way rick created the 2.0 ver of lighting thief i’m sorry but if this the story of the book i’m not gonna read to so many times like i do to the original book.

I think Annabeth's regret scene is twofold. First, it introduces more about her character. It makes the audience wonder what she regrets. I, like many other fans, think it's about her family. I think this is a good way to nudge her to talk about the topic with Percy again Second, the fact that Annabeth has a regret strong enough to get her stuck serves as a red herring to the show-only viewers who are trying to figure out who is going to betray Percy. I have seen some people who haven't read the books theorize that Annabeth is the lightning thief because of the regret scene and also because the theft was done using Hades' helm which makes the wearer invisible and Annabeth has a hat that does the same

Me personally, I loved this episode. I was required to read the first book in 6th grade and the scene where they enter the underworld through the elevator was so cool and fascinating to eleven year old me. I was hoping to see that entrance in the show and when I didn’t, I was a little sad but tbh, I see how it could take time away from the episode and wouldn’t make sense for the show plot. Overall, I got the same feeling I did when I read the underworld sequence from the book, the action was turned up a bit more just like in the book, hades is pretty chill and reminds me of Hercules hades, and ik this might be an unpopular opinion, but I like when the trio splits up, it just feels bound to happen(considering it happens in the rest of the books, I’m not bothered). Also I appreciate the flashbacks to sally, cause I feel we didn’t get a lot of mention of Sally’s mental health throughout the books so I’m glad they’re shedding light on that.

This was by far my favourite episode so far. The cinematography was awesome, the look of the Underworld and Hades’ palace was really good - I’ve seen much worse CGI in much more expensive movies. And I loved the backflash, expanding on Sally’s character, her struggles and despair, and the introduction of Poseidon. They connected it well to the main story, both dealing with questions like loyalty, abandoning, distancing for the other’s sake etc. The Kansas quote was a nice connection, and Poseidon’s voice-over when Percy gets ready for the fight with Ares - really great! Percy knew about Crusty - probably Hermes included the information in his letter in which he told them where the entrance was, right?

Episodes 1-3 were amazing and everything a Percy Jackson fan could dream of (love the cast) after those episodes, it was like the tone of the show completely changed, there seems to be scenes missing (not even from the book) but from the show, it feels like there are scenes that should be there that aren’t, some people may call it “filler” but “filler” is key to a good story, they are just fighting the monster every episode with no struggle, just magically knowingly how to fight it, they even left out the parts where Percy was ever in danger, aswell as they just suddenly arrive somewhere, with no knowledge of how they got there. Especially when they were hiding from Medusa, how did Percy get away without her being suspicious. Hardly any of the Greek god world is explained. Making the vibe less enchanting, and the show less engaging. In the book it felt like the stakes were higher, but in the episodes they hardly mention how dire the quest is. It reminds me of a cartoon where they know how to defeat every villain, and every episode, I would even compare it to a cartoon, it’s repetitive. Especially for new fans, it’s just a lot of assuming what it going on.

Honestly I really like this episode because i feel like for once the changes actually really expendant in the story from the books. We didn't see much of Sally so we don't have much attachment to save her her in the series but here we see how hard it was to raise percy and her internal conflict. And also we see that Poseidon did care about them !! For me I didn't hate how Hadès is shown because i feel like it's a good way to show he's one of the softer gods like we learn in the books. But i do agree i think i would like it if Percy was sometimes a bit clueless but i think they did that change so it's not always "now x or y has to explain to percy everything" but i hope they sometimes still keep it a little 🤔🤔

I like the show. But honestly I’m very biased. I’m just excited to see my favorite moments brought to the screen with an attempt at book accuracy. Namely the Hunters of Artemis and the events of the Titan’s Curse. I also want to just trust Rick to make his story work for kids today. I owe my life-long interest in mythologies/religions, history, etc. to Rick and his books. If this show gets just 100 kids to read more about those kinds of things, or just read more in general, I think it will be more than worth it. My main concern/question would be is this show going to become PG13 by season 2 or 3? There’s no way they could show the events of the Titan’s Curse with just a PG rating. “Stars… I can see the stars again my lady.” 😢

I actually liked the flashback. Not just because of the Sally and Poseidon scene but because it tied nicely into the episode, with Sally having to make difficult decisions concerning Percy and Percy having to do the same thing in the underworld. But other than that, I was also a little underwhelmed by the episode. I am mostly missing the humor from the books. This is not an issue with this episode per se but now that we are almost at the end, it becomes very noticable. Where was funny Charon in a suit? Or (as you mentioned) the bathtub quote? One of the few scenes where I saw the humor from the books at full display was with Ares. I wish we had more of that. I still think the actors are perfect for their roles so it's a very much a writing issue for me. Concerning the fight with Ares, maybe Poseidon will help Percy more directly in the show to make it more believable?

It’s gotten to the point that I’ve unfortunately come to the conclusion that I’m not loving the show in general unfortunately. At least I’m not loving the series as much as I wanted to love it. I’m liking the show well enough, don’t get it twisted, but it had so much more, unfortunately, in my opinion at least, unrealised potential to be better especially with the author of the original books writing it. Blasphemous, I know, but I think I might prefer the films over the series at this point. Sorry, not sorry, Rick. I’m fully aware that as 22 year old guy I’m not the target audience for this series but still.

I have very conflicting thoughts with hades. It’s GOOD, but it’s not how the books did it, and it’s not how I imagined it (which is way different from the books) but I’m open to a new perspective. It simply doesn’t make that much sense to me? He’s the god of the underworld and I can’t really imagine him being this extroverted and friendly. Like not that he has to me mean, but like, you know what I mean.

I like it, because its not the mean cruel man that most stories go for

@@G-LukeJA I’m not saying he has to be cruel, but I just can’t see him as like a super welcoming inviting guy. He’s a god and supposed to be at least a little bit intimidating. Like I really don’t know how to explain it, but I just don’t know how he’s this friendly when he’s been living in the underworld with probably little social interaction

I just read the books over again. They made this a true adaptation. They didn’t try to make it just like the book. As a reader… I loved how I didn’t know how this episode was ending. They made old fans and new fans happy with this one. 🫶🏾
