So the perdigon fly has become very popular in recent months, and for good reason. They are quick and simple to tie, they drift hook point up (so less snags) and they are very effective and versatile. Really you can tie just about any style to mimic anything from caddis, to baetis, to midge. All it takes is a little UV resin (the thin stuff) and a sharpie, or black UV resin. You can get creative with different color threads, ribbing materials, and tailing materials. They are so versatile.
Today I tied 3 different styles. One with veevus's Iris thread, which makes a natural, flashy, ribbing, very easily. I even put a hotspot in the tail, and in the head. Then I tied with a natural peacock quill that I stripped myself, however it didn't turn out so good for a number of reasons. Then I tied it with a synthetic quill. There are so many different variables, but I decided to try these three.
So as you may know, I am sponsored by Risen fly. But that does not mean that I am just promoting their hooks and beads because of that. I truly believe they are some of the best deals in fly fishing, and I use them myself. I don't get all my hooks for free, not the ones I use for personal use or to sell. Yet I still buy them because they are a great price. I almost exclusively fish with their hooks and beads. So go check them out! They gave all of you a discount BTW, just for being my subscriber. Type in "McFly" at checkout on www.risenfly.com to get a discount on everything in their store. From awesome fly rods and reels, to fly tying materials and stream side accessories.

Figured I'd drop a quick note as I was watching your UV resin curing. Especially on the first fly. Not knowing what UV torch you're using. If you work with Solarez, I'd recommend taking a peak at their website to see what is the recommended wavelength UV light is needed to cure their products and make sure your UV torch matches. Additionally, a well charged battery will help and don't blast it too closely. I feel like the black ran upward on your first fly because of the heat caused by a blast of UV. Lastly, I find that doing a quick 2-3 seconds exposure then let it rest 5 seconds then blast again works better to not build up too much heat. Or doing multiple layers rather than coating the who thing in one shot. I also tend to do a final blast of 45 seconds to really finish things up and that's when I'd finally grab the fly without worrying that it could get tacky or discolor. If the weather is good I just leave the fly in the plain sun for an hour or more. I know it's a lot of steps but I've never had resins cracking, get tacky or change color over time.

Nice video! I know that it's unrelated but I was thinking of getting a 2 or 3 weight fly rod, but I don't know what fly rod to get and I don't have a huge budget. Any thoughts?

Btw, just went and fished with the risen genesis yesterday, it’s a 3wt, and I was able to cast small bass poppers, streamers, etc.
@aaronmiller6118
@aaronmiller6118 3 года назад
@@McFlyAngler Thanks for the advice. The genesis sounds like a good option. Do you have any recommendations for a reel?
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 3 года назад
Well, reels are less particular than rods. Mainly they are line holders. Most important aspect is the rod and line, then for most trout fishing, reel comes 2nd. So personally, I’d spend your money on line and rod, then save on the reel. Risen sells a nice reel called the armor for $99. Or you can get a cheap Chinese reel from max catch If you wanna save a little. But, risen at least had a great lifetime warranty, so you might want to spend the extra money and get a better reel with a better warranty. Here use my discount code “McFly” at checkout when ordering from risen. It will get you an extra 15% off. Or if you call them to order just let them know you found them though me and they will give you the discount. I know the owner well now since I’ve been using their stuff, and so they offered all my subscribers 15% off their stuff.

@@McFlyAngler Thanks again. I think I may have found a good reel. Have you ever tried tenkara? I have read a little about tenkara and it sounds interesting.

Hi I've been watching your RU-vid channel for a couple of weeks now are you able to ship any of your flies over to the UK or not
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 3 года назад
Yes I can, the shipping is a little high, but if you buy enough flies then the cost per fly Definately will not be too bad.

What’s the difference between euro ties and American ties???
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 5 месяцев назад
A euro nymph is a style of fly. People in Europe use other flies also. Just it’s named for where it came from.
