On June 6th, 2015, The Steam Railroading Institute museum operated the Pere Marquette #1225, also known as "The Polar Express", on a special excursion carrying passengers from Mount Pleasant, Michigan to the Back to The Bricks classic car show in Cadillac, Michigan with a short trip further north to Manton, Michigan. It was a great day to get out and enjoy watching this piece of history go to work. Thanks for watching

This beautiful locomotive is still running?! I thought it was retired. I'm actually glad I was wrong for once. Happy to see old vehicles being used and well-cared for. Whether it be cars, trains, planes, or any other vehicular piece of history.

You should have been at the expo at this loco's home museum last year. They had a nearly identical second locomotive among others along with some old warbirds at the local airport and a classic car show all in the same day.

If you get to close to the tracks then yes it can hurt you but if you stay 25 feet from the tracks you won't get hit. A little bit of railroad safety

It's a shame all they have is sealed window coaches for this operation. But they allow people to ride in the vestibules? When 765 runs on the CVSR in Ohio in September, they have two open window coaches on the train.

Why was she slipping so bad just pulling its tender/s in the switching part? Also, I dont see a pivot link between the 3rd and 4th driver, are the rear 3 axles really connected together with no pivot?

Just bad running unfortunately. Slipping light power should not even happen. Engineer is admitting too much steam into the cylinders trying to get it going quickly which is unnecessary. Also the drivers are affixed in their position by means of sitting in pedstal jaws with a bolted together frame with openings for all of the drivers. The only thing that swivels is the lead truck and the trailing truck.

Deven Devers Mikado. The name of the class is usually attached to the wheel arrangement of 2-8-2 but is generally used with non-articulated locomotives with 8 drive wheels.

The 1225 is neither. It is a Berkshire class 2-8-4 locomotive.

Pere Marquette 1225 and Nickel Plate 765 are nearly identical locomotives, although there are differences. The 1225 is an N1 type Berkshire built in 1941 and the 765 is an S2 type Berkshire built in 1943

Does the steam instate have the political clout with,like the govonor of Michigan? I see you have an exauilry tender to make long trips posible
