Peregrine Falcons (Falco peregrinus) hunting Dunlin (Calidris alpina) on the Samish Flats, Skagit County, Washington State, USA. Footage shot on November 28 and December 4, 2010. 10 minute summary of 11 hours of observations.
Incredible video! This is my favorite Peregrine falcon footage on the entire web of online content. I love the imm. females response to the tiercel when he catches the dunlin. She really puts it on him! Also enjoy the gulls getting blasted for being in the area (are they glacous-winged??) and the sounds of the Corvus corax in the background. Truly a monumental film of Falco peregrinus showing off their skills!
morrisdaniel, thank you for the nice comments. Not sure if monumental is deserved, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. The gull that gets "blasted" into the water is a Ring-billed Gull. The earlier one that got the clipped Dunlin was indeed a Glaucous-winged Gull. Thanks again. Martin
Hey Martin, great footage. It's hard enough to shoot these guys with stills and you managed to capture some fantastic video. I was also there for "the one that got away" on Dec 4th. Amazing.
