I purchased that exact wrench for a boat mechanic who wanted to keep something with him on the water. They are impressive tools

Titanium is slightly softer than Chromium so I wonder if the alloy they use can match a Ch-V or Ch-Mo alloys hardness.

But what about the hardness of the jaws? Titanium is very challenging to harden properly so many companies end up producing tools that have a soft to mild working surface hardness.

I get it there is a market for the use of high end alloys like Titanium for the 'edc crowd' and perhaps genuine tool users. Given these products command a premium price I'd like to see the details discussed. How much play is in that jaw running on its shelf, how even is each side that is machined for the adjustment screw. How much play is in the mechanism, how many rings in the adjustment thumb drive. Is it retained with a screw for servicing, hoe parallel are the jaws, country of origin, is it made by a known adjustable wrench manufacturer like say Irega etc. Basically how well made is this tool, I slowed the speed down to 0.25 and upped the resolution and it looks to be high quality as far as an adjustable wrench goes. But I think if folks are going to pay titanium prices those details are of importance. The weight savings are amazing roughly 50% of traditional metals.

I would really appreciate if you did a long-term review on your County Comm wrench. I bought one for my bike kit. But the issue is that it becomes loose when I'm using it. I'm curious to know if you or anybody in the comments have had this issue. I've been trying to figure out a way that I can make the worm gear more gooey or stiff. I've switched back to a vintage Craftsman or Tiger. I found them at a pawn shop. Both USA made. They weigh two or three times as much but they don't loosen when I use them. End up putting the titanium one in my desk tools where's my precision screwdrivers.

If you want the ultimate titanium wrenches... Back in 1990, the McLaren F1 team was partnered with Facom. Gordon Murray was so obsessed with weight on the road car project, he got every vendor to go to the ends of the earth to cut every g off of every component. Kenwood built a special stereo for the F1, Recaro built special seats, the HVAC vendor basically used space shuttle tech... and Facom built an entire wrench set out of Titanium. Not just like - throw some Ti 6Al4V in the forge we make our normal wrenches in. Titanium is 60% the density of steel, but if you really want to max out your gains, you need to leverage the 3x tensile strength - you can't just make a design intended for steel out of titanium and expect to get all the benefits. As such, Facom built new forge dies and built the wrenches to maximize the benefits of titanium while weighing 1/3rd that of their steel versions. You can occasionally find them for sale. Ultimate Garage has an 11mm for $400. The full sets regularly show up on eBay for about $3k.

I use my adjustable wrenches almost every single day but i coukd not justify spending that kind of money on that. There is just too many quality USA adjustable wrench at yardsales and swapmeets to consider buying that. Furthermore, the wrench does not offer anything unique or useful. Its just a standard plain design. Nothing like bahco's wide jaws or fujiya slim jaws or vintage USA adjustable wrenches that hold history and character.

Thinking about getting some titanium wrenches. Anyone know what’s available? Tone tools tms300 and the motion pro I have seen. There is also a generic MRI tool kit floating around. Of course, you could grab a tool kit out of a mcclaren F1 ….😂

First 15 seconds of the video told me it is all a marketing BS. I can not imagine how a simple wrench can cost $129, even if it is made of titanium.
@mumfordalien1794
@mumfordalien1794 2 месяца назад
I’m not trying to sound like a smartass but the high cost is due to the high cost of titanium. Titanium is also much harder and has a much higher melting point than iron, the process used to extract titanium is MUCH more costly than extracting iron from iron ore and smelting it. In addition to the laborious manufacturing process, titanium is just simply more rare than iron. These factors contribute to its high cost, that being said, I’m sure there is a “titanium fanboy” mark up, titanium is cool, they built the SR-71 out of it (VERY cool story behind that, look it up sometime). I studied geology in college and earned a degree, we went over lots of industrial processes associated with mining in one of the courses I took. Hope that helps.

Titanium is expensive to work with, you need very sharp expensive carbide tooling.
@LumaLabs
@LumaLabs 2 месяца назад
@@Toyotas_n__Tools I hate to tell you, but as a machinist who does a lot of Titanium, we generally use the same tools we would in steel. Carbide is the standard across *all* production machining for about the last 20 years. If I have to knock out 10 titanium parts, I'm reaching for the standard, IMCO 525 series end mills I keep around for general purpose use in everything non-ferrous. If it is a larger volume production job that gets it's own tooling, I'll step up to 7-9 flute end mills from Imco or Helical because the higher flute count speeds things up and the titanium specific coatings help with tool life. Tools last a pretty long time if I keep the surface speeds around 180, but people trying to make time on production will typically step up to 300 SFM, at the expense of tool life. The only really difficult thing in Titanium is floor finishing where the material is extra gummy and sort of smears - that makes pocket floors and large faces difficult to make look really great.
