Duane V was a hell of a player. I'm English, but watch his performance in the 2019 World Cup Final. He was immense, and could not be moved in the rucks. He did it all. I thought he was player of the match by a long way, although Kolbe got all the plaudits.
He'll get there. Just clearly not ready at the minute. I'd prefer an 8 in the mould of Duane over a Pierre Spies or Kankowski. Roos needs to stay on his feet a tad longer when making the contact. Yes, he makes great breaks, but they're useless if you make a 30m break and give away a penalty then have to retreat 50m. It's an indictment on the 8 role if Kwagga is still getting chosen over Roos with Hanekom and Wiese missing. Let's see. Roos has heaps to offer, but heaps to still learn.
Springboks have no specialist 8 going Down Under? Dropping a 8 without replacing him with a specialist is a thing. Might be damaging for confidence. Might want to start with Elrigh Louw now. I hope it goes well otherwise our depth at 8 is not existing.
Evan is hugely talented and should have a great future in the Bok side, for now he seems to isolate himself and try Hail Mary offloads when in space. Such a talent, maybe just lacking the ball retention approach at times. Love Evan, hope he is back soon.
In the bok setup Duane brought an organisational ability and communication around the breakdown that none of these other players bring… most of the 8th men tested plays for themselves and that is where they fall short… my 2 cent
Problem is they want an exact copy of Dwayne instead of incorporating other styles of 8th man play.Roos for instance would be perfect playing out wide where PSDT and Kolisi were put.Elrich Louw would be a blind side type of no.8, powerful ball carrier without explosiveness. The BEST option would be to put PSDT at no 8.
Roos is very unfortunate not to be included in the Boks. He will soon be lost for the Boks.. Let him go to England and play under a different coach. Clash of personalities. Maybe Rassie cannot handle him
Roos is a selfish player. He wants to be a glory boy, that is the problem. The first try scored by the Portuguese was because he had white line fever, had the balled ripped out of his hands, and then the Portuguese scored their first try.
Do you think there was any substance behind the rumours of Cameron Hanekom being approached by Wales as I believe he has Welsh grandparent/s?? Would be a horrible loss and he could probably walk into a starting position in their team right away.
@Alias-gy3tz I understand what you're saying but other young, highly talented players havw left because they didn't get an immediate called up. Look at Duhan VDM for example, choosing to play for Scotland because he wasn't immediately called up and there was some competition in his position.
The loose forward combination failed in Ireland II and Roos or Louw would’ve offered more driving and tackling. Are choices made by the DSTV reality show 🤷🏽♂️
Is Kwagga chosen as he is fitter and can last the whole game🤷🏽♂️. I do think there is a possibility of using a prop / hooker / for the whole game, maybe switching positions and / or to 6. This will allow 2 locks & 2 loose forwards on the bench for 6/2.
I can't see experimentation during the Championship, Rassie wants to win this tournament, can't win it if we loose in Aus, must win both!! If it's won by the time we play Argentina, yes perhaps "others" will be given a chance!!
You knew Roos was out of favour when he wasn't considered for Ireland. Been given more than his fair share of chances. Obviously a real talent running with the ball, but just seems to be playing for his own glory and is so far from being the complete package. Suspect this is the last time we will see him in Springbok colours.
I think he has been doing something wrong; starts with great runs but then doesn’t score, spills the ball, is stripped too easily or gives away a penalty; all this unfortunately is his rugby DNA
No please not Elrich Louw. Looks like Rassie likes Bulls players.Glasgow played them off the park. Wiese and Roos have no comparison.they will eventually come through. First injury he is back.!
