I like that you just don't respond to the comments asking about if you warn clients of the dangers of charcoal while taking medications. Really good look!
[WebMD has entered the chat] Good looking out but someone would like need to eat that entire cake within a few minutes of taking meds for it to have that effect. 😇
@@kevinturnr “That effect” is too vage though, a lot of psychiatric medication for example is extremely dose dependent and simply will not work if it’s not exactly correct. Birth control is also very sensitive
@@bodyofhope 1. its not that pricey. It doesn't cost a bit more, but not as much, considering you do have you use a lot more charcoal than black/ dutch procssed cocoa 2. charcoal messes with meds, black/dutch cocoa does not. So her cakes can be a liability. 3. Charcoal is also bad for the teeth. Regardless if the whitening effects of it, its highly abrasive, and dentists advice not to let it come in contact with your teeth because it can wear on you enamel. So that means its not advice to brush or consume it if you have to chew, which you do with cakes. You don't have that problem with black/ dutch cocoa, which also has health benefits without , like charcoal, without damaging your teeth.
OMG i can’t believe i haven’t thought of this…i use dutch cocoa for my chocolate crinkle cookies and they always turn out as black as oreos only with 1/3 cup of cocoa to 2 cups flour
Came here to say the same thing, it's what I use and it's absolutely amazing. Activated charcoal should not be used in food, period, but also no matter what you do it's got a grainy nastiness to it... So like, why wouldn't balers use the thing that looks black, tastes good and doesn't actively endanger people?
YOU MUST warn clients that this black frosting will neutralize medication. In my opinion it is not worth the risk and it is much better to use black cocoa powder for the same effect
@@jasong7373what are you talking about this is a genuine concern I don't know if it will neutralize medication I will look that up after I do this and edit if it does but please do your own research [edit: it does actually interfere with medications]
As a person who takes several medications, I understand your concern, and would ordinarily agree with you, however the amount she used was less than a teaspoon in the entire batch of frosting, which is distributed throughout the entire cake. Meaning anyone eating a slice would only get a minuscule amount. I wanted to be sure bc you're right, it's important. For children, it takes 25-50 grams, for adults 25-100 grams of charcoal to neutralize drugs or poisons. The conversion is 4.2 grams per teaspoon, and only about a teaspoon was distributed throughout. They could eat the entire cake by themselves without an issue... but a slice isn't going to be of concern. I would say warning parents of the dangers of food dyes like red 40 in a cake is probably even more consequential than this particular instance.
@@bodyofhope I researched it before my comment and came to a similar conclusion. And your emphasis on the petroleum dye is also very admirable not many people think lately.
Just use black cocoa. It's amazing! Delicious, dark, and not dangerous for your clients. Because even if you disclose that you use charcoal, I imagine cakes are used for parties, and everybody partaking the cake may not be aware of the charcoal because the host might not feel the need to inform everyone before the cake is cut. Medications are personal and private for some people, so even the chance that Someone may unknowingly consume a big slice of charcoal cake? It's not great. There's just no reason to chance it when we have black cocoa out there, tasting like Oreos, looking like a moonless midnight.
While this isn't fully true, it does typically apply to psychiatric meds and birth control pills, elsewise always ask a doctor( preferably of the PharmD kind) prior to consuming charcoal
Not true. If you take the medicine too close to eating the charcoal it may nullify it, but "can't have.. if you're on any medication at all" is an over simplification. All they have to do is wait a few hours after taking the meds
so then just warn people and us people taking medication are grown adults able to chose not to have it? its fine, not everything needs to be catered to each individual person. its not her responsibility to make her cakes for everyone
Not a good cake for disabled people I reckon. Or, I can’t eat anything with activated charcoal unless I’m willing to risk my medications becoming less effective and thusly put my health at risk. It may only be relatively small amounts but please to be sure to warn people before selling any edible goods with activated charcoal, because in extreme cases someone could get hurt, and it’s entirely possible you would be legally liable if something were to happen!
Have yous considered looking into alternative ingredients such as squid ink (which can often be acquired at Asian markets), black cocoa powder, or black sesame? Could be worth the while to experiment with some of these options to avoid the dangers of activated charcoal!
We tried making it with black cocoa, I thought the flavour was too bitter. And this cream tastes like milk chocolate ) maybe it depends on brand of black cocoa and I should try again
@elegantsweets omgosh, definitely try again. I did with American chocolate buttercream and on first try it was amazing. Tasted like oreos. Add more milk/cream or sugar to sweeten
Do you warn your clients that it makes medications less effetive? Birth control? Phsyciatric medication? "Oh but it doesnt stain" irresponsible company.
@@lana-fc2pdwdym? People Don't take medication for funzies. If you think someone taking birth control or meds that can help living your life better is bad, then you're just dumb.
@@lana-fc2pdthey are if you need them. This can give someone an unwanted pregnancy or something like really mess up their day and body. You can't just skip doses or alter dosage of psych meds randomly. I'd say taking some pills is better than complete breakdown, offing yourself etc.
@@lana-fc2pd my prescribed birth control stops me from having periods so heavy that i pass out daily. but someone on youtube said that its bad for me so ill just ignore my gyno and die 🤷🏾
You shouldn't be putting something that can be healthy compromise on food, trying black cacao it can be less cost and won't risk medications being changed.
You don’t need to use activated charcoal. Just use Dutch-processed cocoa rather than regular cocoa, and it will give your cakes or icing a black hue. It’s the same type of cocoa that gives Oreo cookies their stereotypically black appearance. This type of cocoa was normal until the mid-19th century, when alkalised cocoa began to be favoured, and now that’s usually the kind of cocoa powder that you find in stores today. But Dutch-process cocoa powder not only turns your baked goods naturally black, it gives them a nice, rich flavour, as well! Also, Dutch-process cocoa was originally used in the making of red velvet cake, which created a chemical reaction causing the cake to turn “reddish-brown”, and negating the need for red food colouring. But please don’t use activated charcoal. As others have said, it is known to stop medications from working properly.
Hey we see you ignoring literally all the comments with concerns. I would hate for you to learn the hard way to change your recipe. If the cocoa is too bitter i have a secret for you: add sugar
oh nah im already on meds bro if people be servin this at my birthday they gon witness the most deadliest dance moves they will see in their life (my version of the worm)
Have you tried black cocoa? There’s this food scientist on RU-vid that worked out a beautiful technique without charcoal. Her channel is called sugarologie, you ought to look into it.
Reporting this for misinformation. You know that charcoal negates medication and how dangerous that is now yet you don't edit your discription or pinned comment that only talks about how amazing it is. You are irresponsible at best.
the phrase “natural charcoal” is hilariously redundant and disingenuous marketing-speak. “natural” does not mean safe. that it does is an incredibly stupid and irresponsible thing to imply. charcoal as a food additive is potentially harmful to anyone taking medication; it binds to and nullifies many common drugs within the body. considering cakes are shared at events with large groups of people who are likely unaware of this ingredient’s presence and effects, you are constantly putting customers in the way of potential harm. your conduct here seems more like a matter of ignorance than cynicism, but harm-done does not answer to intent-had. at minimum you need to start issuing disclaimers. but in the interest of ethical business practice, inclusion and safety for your customers, and the quality/flavor of your product...just use alkalized black cocoa powder.
You should be using black cocoa if you're already using chocolate as a base, this makes no sense. Doesn't stain your mouth, doesn't have charcoal, and still tastes like chocolate. I've used it, unless you're using waaaay too much added to the regular chocolate base then it barely changes the taste
@@k00lmeezje what kind of person lmao? they made a joke because activated charcoal negates/affects a lot of medications. Also, there's no shame in being on birth control or psychiatric meds.
Because everyone eating cake is worried about oral health. This comment is so dumb you seriously think that amount of charcoal in a cake is abrasive for teeth
@@glorious555 I am no dentist, but i am a cake eater. And Bentist said to avoid charcoal because its abrasive to teeth. If you dont care, thats fine, all i am saying is i probably wont eat charcoal cake.
Aww, the black mouth/tongue is half the fun! Is the old frosting still a regular option? It would also be better for anyone who shouldn't have charcoal.
I don't understand how this charcoal thing is not forbidden as medical hazard. It's what I take when I fear I've been food poisoned because of its absorption power. But the way it can also absorb medication is also so serious I don't get how it can just be used as a random food coloring, like imagine some girl just took her pill then she has a piece of black cake and it just cancels her pill and she gets pregnant. Now about someone who needs medication for a much more life threatening issue.. I get that people should be responsible for themselves and not take something that can harm them. But not everyone knows that about charcoal. They see it as just that "cool black food coloring". Many people ate black hamburgers and icecream cause they were trending and ended up in the hospital and learned AFTERWARDS that charcoal has that effect and then they thought "then why tf put it on food??" and tbh I understand why they would ask that
I tried this cocoa, but when I made the frosting a rich black colour, it tasted a little bit bitter. And this frosting has the delicate flavour of milk chocolate
@@elegantsweetsif you're out here making cakes you should be able to learn how to balance out the bitterness. I'd rather my cake was a little more bitter than have someone seizing at my party
Oooo... I had a black and white cake for my birthday once (I think I turned 19?) and my mom made it for me. She made a skull on the top. It was cool. I kinda want another black and white cake sometime.
I graduated from a high school with the colors of black and yellow. People were literally freaked out when their (sorry, if you get easily grossed out) poo was green the next day. 😂 black frosting is usually crazy
I made my kiddo a black and purple cake for his birthday last year, we took it to a local restaurant for after dinner on a saturday night. It was hilarious and thank god most our family and the owner and staff had a sense of humor. Some of my in laws still are not speaking to me... There were multiple perks.
@bostonb4kedbeans - 😂 It turned everyone's mouths including their teeth black and didnt go away for a few brushes. My sister in law was NOT happy. Made it even sweeter somehow.
Here in Germany, that black cake would be an absolute hit at the customary gatherings after a funeral when everyone comes together to eat and drink and talk about the diseased.
was hoping that it was made with black cocoa or something but seeing charcoal 😭 i want to consume black icing but i take medications that would not let me eat this
At the moment, I don't have any free frosting recipes, they are only available for purchase ) But I make an effort to regularly release free content about cake decoration.
My mom made me have a white graduation cake instead of black and red (the school colors) because she didn't want a black mouth. She told me my family wouldn't want it when i know damn well they dont care.
While I have yet to try it, I saw a lady on this app make black frosting like an ermine/ flour frosting but she used black cocoa. It was incredibly black and tastes like oreos.
Hey folks there is a difference between activated charcoal and non-activated charcoal. If the charcoal is non active it will not bind to chemicals in your body to the extent of activated charcoal
Please stop making food with charcoal. Its just way too easy to have a client not read a warning and eat it when they are still digesting a life saving regular medication. This could kill someone's grandma or grandpa, and for people like myself with a high daily med load due to disability I really don't dare eat things with charcoal at any point during the day.
