MOTHERSHIP is a "best of" compilation. NOBODY'S FAULT BUT MINE is from their 7th studio album, PRESENCE. One really needs to experience all Led Zeppelin albums in chronological order, track after track. I suggest you do that. It's an incredible journey you've embarked upon!

When Presence first came out, a lot of Zep fans back from the beginning panned the album. Heck, they were getting panned from all directions, not the least of which was Rolling Stone magazine. I didn't really "discover" them until 1975, so I had this insatiable thirst for anything Led Zeppelin did. I thought Presence was masterful myself, and the thrill of hearing Nobodys Fault on the radio made it one of my first of many favorite Led Zeppelin songs!

What I love most about Led Zeppelin is that they were the ultimate BAND. All four were equals -- four master musicians and none could be replaced. That's why they didn't even consider going on after Bonham died. I think that is pretty much unique.

I just wished they gave credit to the artists who they derived songs from, like this one. Technically first recorded in 1927 and credited to Blind Willie Johnson, but only to Page and Plant on the record, it would have served them better that at least they should have gave an inspiration credit to Johnson. Led Zep had a bad habit of doing this; there are at least 25 songs of theirs that can be traced to other artists, many of which they were sued and settled over.
@stormy8207
@stormy8207 Год назад
@@jamesscully529 That is probably true and it is unfortunate. They should have been more vigorous in accreditation. On the other hand, what they take is an idea because what they do with it completely transforms the original. Plant was somewhat of a musical historian, fascinated by all kinds of stuff. Many modern musicians sample their music so turn around comes around I guess. And if they hadn't done these covers we would have missed out on a number of masterpieces. But that does not excuse their neglect.

I am so glad that younger generations are discoverying Led Zeppelin. Quality music should never disapear. Too young meself, I discovered them in the early 80ties. I see a lot of great artists on the wall behind you, that makes me happy. It all started from the blues and Jazz with giants like Coltrain B.B. King and Muddy Waters. Led Zeppeling was also inspired with this particular song by Blind Willie Johnson. Cheers from Switzerland!

Try "When The Levee Breaks" and "You Shook Me" for some more great Robert Plant harmonica. Also; Bring it On Home Black Country Woman Custard Pie ...and one or two others. Mothership is a "best of" album released in 2007. Nobody's Fault is from Presence, Whole Lotta Love is from Zeppelin II, and Stairway to Heaven is from Zeppelin IV which is a contender for best Zeppelin album of all time (though Zep I and II are way up there for me too). The guitar in the intro and in the breaks is apparently double tracked, each with a phaser effect out of phase with each other. With a single guitar I think a flanger gets closer to the sound.. That harp (harmonica) has some overdrive and reverb on it. The harp in When The Levee Breaks also has some reverse echo. Love it when Robert wails on that blues harp. Led Zep were really good at using various effects in a way that integrated with and enhanced the music rather than sounding like a gimmick.

At first, I didn't remember which song this was, but then when that opening riff started, I remembered it. Back in the seventies, the rock stations pretty much played every Led Zeppelin song there was at one time or another, and this 1976 song was definitely among them. I did notice that you could tell it was from a later album because Plant's voice sounded different than in the early years.

Led Zeppelin - just picture the young me with a guitar desperately trying to play along with them and mostly failing (well bits of riffs maybe). I don't need to say any more. Amber and Jay - you guys just rock in every way 🙂

For me Bonzo best performance, the way the drums and Page guitars complement each other, in the same rhythm, perfectly harmonized, is just insane

LOL. "Mothership album". Yeah, Mothership is a compilation, not an album. Nobody's Fault But Mine is from the Presence album, Stairway To Heaven is from IV, Kashmir is from Physical Graffiti album. Another banger from Presence is Achilles Last Stand, a very righteous track, worth a listen or two. This was a great reaction.

This album was released in 2007 and the same year, "Celebration Day", concert and live album were released with Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham on drums. That concert and live album was as close as they could get to the original Led Zeppelin in the 21st century. A piece of history that will likely never happen again.

The album this song came from, Presence, was released in 1976.

@@eximusic he's referring to the "Mothership" comp, which was released in 2007.

@@screwyootube1 Got that, but the reaction is to a song off Presence. The fact that it's on a greatest hits album doesn't take away that the album "Zeppelin" made with this song is Presence. John Bonham plays on Nobody's Fault, but was long dead by the release of Mothership.

@@eximusic I know Presence was the original album. My point was the same year Mothership was released was probably the last time Zeppelin; Plant, Page, Jones, and Bonham, (Jason) will ever perform in concert

A LONG, LONG time ago I picked up a bootleg of Led Zeppelin "For Badgeholders Only" and I believe this was the opening track on it, it blew me away that they crushed it so hard live. It's a song you didn't hear too much on the radio. One of my favorite Zep songs. Still gives me chills and it's been some 45 years since I bought that album.

They got their start as what we now know as acid blues. Hard rock versions of the songs that inspired them as kids. In England after WWII, there wasn't much for kids to do, they studied old american blues and then the rock and roll pioneers of the 50's. They also studied music in school, which is why so many of them were so good even at early ages.

It's still crazy to me that the "holy trinity" of English guitarists - Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck - are all from the same town, Surrey. Got to be something in the water in Surrey.

A lot of rock blues bands back in the 60's and 70's had harmonica players, with the instrument often referred to a a blues harp. Look into some of the artists in that genre and time frame. Check out, for example, Charlie Musselwhite. About that time you'll find the emergence of Elvin Bishop, Mike Bloomfield and one of the premier electric blues bands, Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Led Zeppelin started out as a rock blues outfit, but every member was already a master with a ton of experience. Page and Jones, in particular, had extensive studio experience, with Page having been a very flexible studio musician, backing dozens of different rock and pop groups. Once he assembled Zeppelin, it was pretty clear he already knew the direction he wanted to go. So they started out with tunes by American blues greats like Willie Dixon, ("You Shook Me"). They rapidly expanded on that palette, releasing a second album the same year. It was still blues based, but now everything was essentially original and written by band members. By the third album all borders were gone. Any style and influence was fair game. A lot of their songs were pretty heavy, and that earned them the label of early metal. That's obviously a far too restrictive label as well as ignoring the fact that Black Sabbath was far more deserving of the label of Heavy Metal, (keeping in mind the time period for context. Genre labels are a constantly shifting, redefined quality that attitudes of the times determine.

Amber, you need to hear Whammer-Jammer by the J. Geils Band. But only if you really like hearing a harp player rockin' and rollin'. Magic Dick will definitely show you how it's done. Find a good live version. Also, anything by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Maybe you've never heard of them, but they played at Woodstock and several musicians you have heard of came out of his band.

I saw LZ live in 1977 and when they played this song I was blown away! In the beginning of the song, every time the guitar riff ended into that deep bass thrum, it was so deep and loud that the whole building vibrated and would shake you all the way to your core. Y'all keep rocking! There is so much good music to enjoy!
