In this video I show you how to make Instant Pot Brown Rice. After you make rice in the Instant Pot, you will no longer have need or your rice cooker (ha ha - well, I don't anymore). Cooking it in the Instant Pot makes it taste so much better!
WHAT IS THE COOKING TIME FOR WHITE, BROWN, AND WILD RICE?
When cooking different types of rice in your Instant Pot, the only change you need to make is for cooking time. The rice to water ratio stays the same: 1 cup rice to 1 ¼ cup water.
Watch how to cook my white rice here: • How to Make the PERFEC...
Cooking times for the different types of rice are as follows:
White or basmati rice: 5-8 minutes
Brown rice: 22-24 minutes
Wild rice: 25-28 minutes
Again the cooking time is the same whether you use 1 cup of rice, or 6 cups of rice. You can make this recipe in the 3qt, 6qt and 8qt Instant Pots.
If you want a printable recipe for this rice recipe, you can find it here: www.sixsisters...

For those who are still ending up with hard, or crunchy rice at the end, go all the way up, to 3 cups of water. For 2 cups of rice. Also, go to 25, not 22 minutes, on high pressure. I did this last night, the rice is absolutely perfect. No hard or crunchy grains at all.

Thank you very much for this tutorial! It got my subscription to your channel. You’d think cooking rice would be a no-brainer, but I used my Instant Pot and followed the cooking instructions on the brown rice bag of 2-cups water to 1-cup rice and it was was way too waterlogged! It would have taken me many attempts to stumble on the right proportions of 1-1/4 cups water to 1-cup brown rice, just by trial and error alone. Plus, now I won’t use the automatic cooking “rice” button and instead will set the cooker manually to 22 minutes. I guess I didn’t have a brain for cooking brown rice before, but thanks to you, I have one now!

I have a multi-cooker. I assume that the Instant Pot has the same classification. My directions are often confusing, so I mostly use it as a slow cooker. Thank you for being so specific. It has really helped me to adapt to my appliance. We have a small kitchen. If I can get by without a slow cooker and, now, a rice cooker for a year, I am going to clear out the excess counter-top appliances. Maybe I will have a room for a blender.

Works for medium rice as well, I mix the brown rice and different beans plus a little bit of white rice in water for several hours, then add broth instead of water on high pressure cook. Very good performance with sticky look. However, to cook bone soup I prefer the stove pressure cooker, sound like the pressure of instant pot is not high enough for bones, other than that, instant pot is very handy

I have made brown rice at 22 min and 25 min with a 1C. to 1.25 water ratio which does make it fluffier. However it still is not pleasant to chew more than a small amount. There is a reason Asian restaurants serve white Jasmine rice imo. I'm tired of trying to like brown rice.

Hetty DeVroom I just got one myself.. the 8 qt. Thought I wouldn’t like it took me about a week to decide to keep it. I made the best shredded chicken in it 1st then froze the chicken stock in a mason jar bc it’s flavor was so delicious.. Wish I had her email bc I made frozen sirloin steaks whole russet potatoes and gravy that was out of this world delicious.. I have watched several videos on frozen meat in the pot but I’ve not seen one like I made. I browned the frozen steak nicely before I added liquid and potatoes threw in generous portions of garlic and fresh herbs like rosemary thyme oregano and a splash of red wine into beef stock instead of water I had in the fridge and it was so delicious.. browning the steak made a big difference in flavor.. it was super tender and had the browned look so it was eye appealing instead of a grey piece of meat. Good luck with your instant pot. I really like mine now. Super easy meals minimal clean up ..

Hi Laura, I happen to have the perfect rice pudding recipe. 2 cups of cooked white rice or brown rice. 2 cups of milk, whole preferred, or half-and-half, 1/4 cup of maple syrup, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla. The vanilla goes in at the end. Boil the sugar maple syrup milk and rice together until you have a glossy creamy consistency. The rice greens will swell up even more than they already have by being cooked in the milk, you can also add raisins into if you like dried fruit. Enjoy. This was one of my favorites as a kid.

Yes, these recipes don't often work and if you just want to do 1 cup that is a problem. I like to cook a lot of grains as well so would love some real, accurate recipes for the IP. First time I did this with another recipe, NOT 6 sisters, using Brown Basmati, starting with 1 and 1/8 cup [the recipe called for 2 1/4 cup liquid to 2 cups of rice which is too much rice for one person]...I had to cook another 15 minutes add 1 more cup water ! And it was still slightly underdone. This makes no sense. I am often finding that recipes on YT for IP just do NOT work as shown. It's very frustrating.

Nancy Taylor I also rinse until water is clear. Rice has debris in it just like beans
@bansheebomb
@bansheebomb 4 года назад
Nancy Taylor washing the rice isn’t necessarily a must but doing to removes a lot of the excess surface starch. A good rule is to wash the rice 3 times (which is about when the water starts to be clear from washing the rice) with room temp water making sure to stir the rice around so the excess starch comes off. It’ll overall increase the quality of the rice because that surface starch is what makes the rice get gummy and clump together. Again if it’s not necessary and if you like your rice a specific way, hey you do you. 👍🏻

With how busy people are, spending more time than needed in the kitchen is a waste. The only reason I won't say the majority of the world's population doesn't enjoy cooking is that I don't know how that study reflects east Asian and Indian preferences. And I'd bet COVID got quite a few people into cooking recently. But the global trend of people who enjoy cooking is most certainly plummeting. If you enjoy watching water boil, pop off. Others don't find that to be worth their time.

@@lieutenantdark7867 I mean, it's only food. What if they're using their free time to read a book, paint, garden, spend time with their family? Any other of the thousands of things a human being can enjoy. Not everyone has to enjoy life the same way you do, you know. To some, cooking is a hassle. To others, something you dislike doing is the highlight of their day. Let people be happy, yo.
