1-Is it necessary to lower the string height on all acoustic guitars? 2-What should be the optimum string height at the first fret and at the 12th fret? 3-Is it true that when calibrating the guitar, that is to say, the height of the strings, filing the bone or maybe adjusting the rail or the nut, it is necessary to check it for at least 2 days so that the wood rests and gets used to the tension that is being given?
Ok what I see is too much oil on that board😅 I mean you are not supposed to soak it in oil, especially when it's a newer guitar like that, I think the saddle is quite low now which might be fine, but you definitely loose some vibration transfer when playing this low on an acoustic, most people want an acoustic to feel like their electric guitar but that's just not possible and doesn't make sense🤘🏻
Stretching the strings' when you stretch the wound strings it causes the diameter of the strings to be smaller.... nut slots are bigger than the strings causing rattling. also the strings will sit lower in the nut causing fret buzz.
Now your saddle is to low lol. Never sand your saddle to low. The string angle is now almost straight from bridge pin to saddle. That angle is very important
There is no break angle on this setup. Sanding the saddle that low might affect the guitar's intonation, bridge must be trimmed together with the saddle slot so that break angle won't be compromised.
trimming the bridge is going to do jack shit for the break angle. Unfortunately, what that guitar's gonna need on its next visit is a new saddle and a neck reset.
I have recently done this to 3 of my acoustics and they all play better than when I purchased them. I like the use of the sharpie for depth. I spend a lot of time sanding and retrying its depth so that I dont over do it.
@@Jiggywatt I saw a video about that and was thinking about doing that on mine. I've already gone as low as I can on the saddle and was thinking about sanding down the bridge, but it's not easy maintaining the curve.
So you dropped the bridge. How much tone/toned volume did it lose? Did the sound move back toward it. Did you replace the bridge or use same one. If you replaced it, is there a particular brand your prefer? (Sorry about all the questions, but that's what I need to know.
You have people who play guitar/ react to those who play guitar and those who work on guitars. My suspicion is that the neck angle is off on the guitar and is the reason why he shaved the saddle so low.
That's What's funky about ALL this!! NO. The Neck & Bridge are "STRAIGHT"? I quess I must VOID my "Lifetime" warranty & just totally redo this POS myself. Will do 😘
I love my D28 but I have a couple LL series Japanese Yamahas that cost a third and sound just as good and feel and play better and easier. But they don’t have that intoxicating smell that the D28 has coming out of the case!
@@mr.k1t Do you mean twostroke oil? Or fourstroke oil? I'm just curious WHAT oil you use, and just "mineral" sounds like my blunt uncles. Do you have angry Dutch farmers as your ancestors?! They love monosyllable grunts and the tone gives away the mood. Do you have that? Mineral oil. Sounds like a death sentence. No offense, just curious. What mineral oil? Does your guitar stink, now?
Not so easy man! You must play every string at every fret to check if at full strenght picking the string doesen't whip against the fret. Any brand, metal kind and gauge of strings need different setup, and sometimes on some acoustic guitar is pratically impossible to have the perfect sound on each string, and needs to have bridge inclination modified or some frets sanded to make thoese lower.😜
MY MAN, I've been a "PRO" GTR player 4 over Decades! I've worked at Several "Music" stores & was taught how 2 String, Set up,(intonation, nut, frets, etc) I'm NOT a rookie at this!! PLEASE don't question my credentials &/or how many Guitars I own & PLAY!! NO hard feelings ur just WRONG
BOO!! I've been doing this over 4 Decades!! I own a few dozen gtr's & EVERY 1 plays better than THIS 2nd "Martin" that I've been sent!! Almost, ALL my Acoustics R cheapys! They ALL play better with 2-3 yr old strings on em..... stop
@@markkurucar216 Ha ha, the longer people do things slightly wrong, the more we believe we are doing things okay. I am a suspect too. Example? Many people never even think about what tuning we use. It is darn equal temperament, because everybody has that, and many people do not even understand what it is. When the guitar player only plays a handful of chords, and when he plays all by himself or herself, well, you might consider cutting and shifting some frets. Again, no offense, probably you BOTH know such things. Of course you got a fretless guitar, too. Just like I do. You never hear fret buzz, on a fretless guitar. Setup can be lower, and the risk of buzz is back. But okay, what do you all need these frets for, anyway? Ever thought about that? Just asking, just asking. It's a wake up call, that's all. A violin owner would kill you, if you had the guts to install frets on the violin. Why is that? Huh? Maybe it is time for changing?
What is Krylon? You Yanks have so many weird words, I often get angry when you manage to pop up a new nonsense word. Sure I can Google this shit. Do you have any idea what chemicals you put your own finger tips in, playing?
That oil you must wipe in circles, 15 minutes after applying. Then the oil will cure, it gets solid. And that is why is does NOT get to your strings. Read the text on the bottle of linseed oil. You see if it works fine for other oil. Besides, do not apply too much oil. Too much means, well, too much. Am I really typing this? Yes, sometimes the obvious is not obvious enough. Good luck. Please try wiping out your drip of oil very franticly, dry cloth, and see how it works out. Almond oil smells great. How does Krylon smell? Like dyneema?
@voornaam3191 as an Painter, I've never found linseed oil to be durable for being touched with fingers, it can get sticky clumpy in time, hence, the need to keep redoing it. Urethane oil base clear is more resistant to salt and skin oil and doesn't clump up ever. Less maintenance.
seriously.... i have a Martin sigma... over 30 years old... looked after by a french Maître comangion Luthier... NEVER would i or he have just chopped off the strings at the mechanics like that! the string has to sound all the way to the end...
Are you suggesting that you hear a difference with trimmed strings? If it was even humanly possible to denote such a difference it wouldn’t benefit for any vibration to fizzle out through untrimmed strings. You want all vibration going through the bridge and nut. Any movement left past the nut, which is practically nil should go through the tuners.
Ciao....
NO PLAYA!! For 1, Why the Hell should I pay 4 ANOTHER set up? After, I've sent 1 of These "Martin's", Recieved ANOTHER IDENTICAL Guitar & it pays like ASS 2?? MARTIN SHOULD PAY!! Have U ever thought about that, GENIUS? S T F U
@@x5-acousticguitarstuff.2yes it is entirely too low. The next time instead of pitching the neck they'll just sand away at the top of the bridge so they can lower it even more. .....or perhaps saw slots into the bridge so the strings break closer to the saddle so it can go lower. I see these kinds of hack repairs all the time. Either that thing was insanely under pitched from the factory or he's expecting it to play like a Les Paul. It looks pretty new.
