I think the big message was that all those containers passed the basic tests. From there, you apply the details of your personal kitchen to decide a "winner." No surprise the commercial kitchen found the Cambro best. But home cooks / bakers should pick for their own process, since they all passed the test of keeping the material dry and holding up to handling.

I agree, and if you are on a budget, $23.00 is a bit much when you have to purchase more than one. Also I use flour and sugar to store, I have flour and sugar ceramic container on my counter for everyday use, it would be used for storing leftover flour left in the package. I do not have plastic containers on my counter.

I purchased my Cambro containers from Sam's club a couple of years ago. Came with 2 containers and lids for about $20.00. I love them because they are air tight, easy to scoop from, and the plastic is the pliable type so it doesn't chip or crack easily.

I just switched my pantry over to the skinny red-topped Rubbermaid containers (over on the right that they did not mention in this clip), and I am extremely pleased. I needed the skinny rectangular containers because I had a lot of dry goods to fit into a relatively small space. These containers are nice and sturdy and have well-fitting lids. They come in 4 sizes and all have the same footprint so they stack beautifully. You do have to search around for the best price, but I'd say they are definitely on the lower end of the price range mentioned in the video. They definitely are not fancy, but certainly robust and space efficient.

I bought the winner here and they simply took up too much room in my cupboards to be useful. I changed in 2021 to Rubbermaid Brilliance after looking at various competitors and reading reviews that said the OXO containers didn't really hold a seal. (I believe they have redesigned them since.) I'm very happy with the Rubbermaid Brilliance and have a wonderfully organized cupboard and was able to empty out an entire cupboard next to it with the reclaimed space because the various sizes of Rubbermaid Brilliance containers stack so efficiently. I now have four of the winnners here in the garage waiting for a good home. They took up too much space in my cubboards, and in a home situation, they would probably only be useful if you have a dedicated pantry room with long shelves, not standard cupboard widths.

I came to the video just to see what ATK recommended. Sadly the link goes nowhere. But I also have the Rubbermaid Brilliance and love them - except you have to be very careful drying the rubber gasket . But they are air tight and leak proof. Also - the OXO - it was actually redesigned to be _worse_ than before. You push down the top and you can just lift the entire lid off without popping it. Terrible. Go Rubbermaid!

SO the big prepper question is, how many containers can you safely stack and hold product inside ? Many of the other containers did not have stack-ability - so unless you have more small height shelves holding only the single containers, you would need a veritable steel construction shelving to hold the containers in compact format.
@danielleanderson6371
@danielleanderson6371 5 лет назад
I don't know about the others, but where I used to work we used Cambros and they stack very nicely. I've even stacked larger containers than these (I think around 20 quarts) full of liquid three containers high and the lid on the bottom container held up overnight. They're overpriced, but they do exactly what they need to do very well.

I bought the Rubbermaid containers a few years ago and the large ones held 5 lbs. of flour and sugar. I do dip and scoop when measuring so the narrow style made it a bit messy when using a one cup measure. Have since given them to my daughter who has an actual pantry in her house. That dry opening was wonderful. Those Cambros are no doubt useful but unless you have a large family or cook a great deal they're somewhat niche due to their big size. Inexpensive glass mason jars are the right sizes for my family's storage needs and our available space, and are more versatile than any other kind of container. But we also don't have little kids in the house to break them. We like them enough to accept the risk of breaking one, which doesn't happen on average more than once a year.

This was an old episode. They also didn't test the Rubbermaid Brilliance Dry Goods containers. And really, since the baking I do is always weighed out, there's no point in needing to "dip and sweep." As long as you can comfortably fit a one cup measurement, that's all you need.

Last year I started putting everything into Cambro square containers (found in expensively on Costco) and revolutionized my pantry. Now, if you don't bake like I do than that's a different story. The freezer safe ability is great and it's just the right size for the casual user. For the occasional flour blend or ice cream toppings, chocolate chips. Keeps everything fresh for short term storage.

Wait. I love Cambros. I use them for leftovers all the time. But the red lid (or the green on the smaller size) is NOT airtight. You need to get a sealing lid, which appears to be on the container next to the red one. I used to use Cambros for flour and sugar, but sugar would clump and flour would get pantry bugs because they aren’t airtight. Perhaps in a professional kitchen where you go through a lot of flour and sugar the Cambros would work fine for dry goods, but unless you have a sealing lid in a low volume kitchen, they don’t work well. What I bought instead was the Progressive Prokeeper Flour Storage Container. It’s tall enough that a full bag of flour fits under the optional leveling bar, which works far better than the snap container they show in this video.

@awhite3747
@awhite3747 3 года назад
It shouldn't be a standard follow up. It's a hang over from the post-WWII era when spices were scarce but peppercorns were more easily available. It's now a lazy, unthinking phrase that needs to stop being used. Pepper is a spice with its own distinct flavour. Using a pinch as standard is pointless and it won't make any difference to your dish. If you want the properties of pepper (heat, aroma) then use it as a spice just as in Indian subcontinent recipes. Otherwise you're wasting your money.

I love cambro. If they can withstand a commercial dishwasher at 185 degrees, they can survive everything.

Don’t microwave it. It can stand that, but it does damage it over time.

ridiculous prices! are they stackable? will the bottom container hold 2 more containers filled with same? will it hold heavy?

There’s not enough flour, sugar or rice to justify my spending $23 and change plus tax on a plastic container!

I agree. I have sugar, flour, and rice in big round Rubbermaid containers. They work great and cost 1/4 of that. If it lasts me only 5 years instead of 10, it's still worth it.

I agree. Some perspective here. How much money is the container versus the value of the product put inside?

Why would they not include the lid! A lid defines its purpose- STORAGE container. Storage is always covered. An open plastic container is just a square bowl no matter how you look at it. I have lots of bowls.

Money hungry company. For that reason, I will not buy from them, plus they are expensive as hell.

Great intro! This is a first...I disagree with your choice. To be fair, I never gave it a chance. What I did do was to measure my storage spaces, determine the volumetrics of my pantry staples, and that there was a variety of sizes available which could be stacked within the same footprint. All the lids are the same and included. The winner...Rubbermaid. The one cup extraction made no difference to me as I weigh everything.

I spent 8 years at a busy beach seafood restaurant. The containers that were there when I got there and looking several years old, were still there when I left. You could even read all the numbers on almost all of them despite them being run through a commercial dishwasher almost daily (and some days more than once) Not to mention getting dropped on a concrete floor every now and then.

Just don't reheat the food in it I work in a kitchen and the cooks have killed them. Hot food can melt the plastic and make it brittle. Otherwise they are great but good Tupperware containers work for the average kitchen
