These are the crispy smashed potatoes that have been a viral hit everywhere lately. No measurements needed...just add the ingredients to your liking and get to smashing!
When you're going to cook at a high temperature like that it's better to use dried herbs rather than fresh. Fresh herbs are better to add at the very end of cooking because they don't stand up to a lot of heat. You'll get more flavor from the dried herbs. If you want to use fresh herbs just add them like the last 2 minutes just enough time to wilt them a little bit
Take big patotos , strip off. Cut sideways. Melt a little bit butter on tray. Aline patatos and put Kaşar cheese , if cant find put cheddar cheese on patotos. Put the tray on owen. No salt cause of cheese. After cook Poor put black pepper and red pepper and thyme.
If I eat potatoes in the summer, baby potatoes that is, I always boil too much on purpose, and the next day I'll make smashed potatoes from the leftovers. Just drizzle some olive oil on top (no need for salt, because you should salt the boiling water heavily) and some grated parmesan on top. Devine!
Adding Rosemary is the whole new level. It tastes superb with salt, cracked black pepper, olive oil, garlic and onion powder with hint of Rosemary. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I thought I was the only one who hates flipping in between. But today I’m doing it. I’m about to put them in the oven and will put out the energy to flip them. That’s how bad I’m craving these.
Just put an empty tray in the oven as well (so it's pre heated), then when you need to flip, put it on top of the other tray and then you can flip everything at once.
@@robinred1851 i cant even imagine myself at around 50.. life is strange in a good way, im 18 now and it was like yesterday when i used to run with my buddies, and that was like 10 years ago. Now i just day dream about life and the possible outcomes haha
Smashed potatoes! The very best. Keep in mind, people will eat double the amount they normally would. I serve them with sour cream with some onion soup mix mixed in. So absolutely amazing. I also sprinkle on some sweet smoked paprika.
I make these almost the same way, just without the basil & thyme & I sprinkle on grated Parmesan cheese instead of salt & it adds a salty, cheesy crust on the outside. They're SO GOOD! 👌
I do it basically the same way except I mix olive oil with all the seasonings smash the potatoes first and then brush them with the olive oil and Seasonings sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and then bake them
Pro tip: Place a second sheet of parchment paper over the bottom of the glass so it doesn't stick when you're smushing them. Works with smash burgers too
Another pro tip : place Parchment Paper on top of potatoes on sheet tray … then grab another sheet tray place on parchment paper and press down . 1 min done
Thanks for the quick recipe. I made these for my wife and she loved them. I'm now looking up the recipe again 2 weeks later to make again for some friends. So good!
Tip: try using the tines of a fork, pushed down twice in a criss-cross pattern, instead of a glass. You'll get little edges on the top that create more surface area for crispy textures, and the uneven surface holds onto cheese, olive oil, herb dressing, or a dipping sauce better than the flat face.
In Portugal we have this way of baking potatoes named "batata à murro"... Basically "punched potatoes". We punch them before putting them in the oven so that they get squished 😂😂
Be very careful with that, I'm sure there's lot of conflicting opinions on it. Seriously, don't risk your health unless it's from a trusted source. How long are you cleansing for?
You changed my life forever. Thank you so much you have a loyal fan now. I'm literally crying with tears of joy because how beautiful this meal looks. Thank you 😊
These are called 'batatas à murro' in Portugal - which roughly translates to punched potatoes lol - and they're absolutely delicious. With boiled octopus and a bit of onion/parsley sauce 🤤
@@jojosoni6355 that's a portuguese word and when we was in India I guess that word stayed for ever there like 'arigato' it's used in Japan cause the portuguese sailors when arrive there use to say 'obrigado' it's like thank you in portuguese
@@nicoleaseltine8816 you were unexpectedly given potatoes? Lol. I'm just messing with you. In retrospect it seems odd but I'd definitely appreciate a spud gift
There's a resturaunt in Somerville, MA called Pennypacker's that makes smashed potatoes like these with jalapeño, bacon, and bleu cheese crumbles on them. They're insanely good, I recommend adding those toppings to this
In our child hood we use to bake potato in stove ( which is made of mud, and wood is use as fuel ).we put potato within the charcoal fire for few minutes and then bring it out, it was so delicious, and smoky..... I miss those days.....😢😢
I can still taste my grans roast taties from the 1970’s. Made with Taylor’s (local butchers, since gone) beef dripping, OMG. Staggering, and her Yorkshire puddings, both sweet and savoury. I’m sure these taste great, but they’re not roast potatoes, like the man said they’re baked. There was a lot wrong with British food 1945-1985, but the Sunday roast with a leg of lamb from Morecambe salt marshes, or Scottish beef. You could not go wrong. Glad to say Brit food is now on par with anywhere.
This is one of the food items I cooked for my now fiancé when we started dating and she tells me now that one of the things that made her fall in love w/ me was that I was a damn good cook... 😉😁
@@aaronbrown1638 😂 Everybody knows if you cooking in the right ways and places you can have absolutely no skills in the kitchen and still get the girl. 1- Cookin with money/power/fame 2-Cookin in the bedroom 3-Cookin with looks. 4-Cookin with personality/funny 5-Cookin in the actual kitchen
You don’t understand fresh basil until you’ve had basil plants in your backyard. I use basil on so many things and it’s so convenient just going outside and picking a leaf or two. It’s not even hard to manage, I was able to keep it alive 😂
Even better, over boil them just until they "smash" themselves when you drop them. You just want them to crack open/split when you drop them. They look better, less work, taste the same if not better.
@@holgerj.440 sure the herbs will burn but not everything. I just cooked 4lbs of chopped boiled potatoes with a bunch of garlic infused olive oil at 450 for over an hour and nothing even became remotely burned, in fact I could’ve cooked them for another 15-20 minutes to make em more crispy and they would’ve been fine
This is common in Portugal.... They call them ‘ punched potatoes’ cos you half boil them .. punch them open .. and roast them .. usually just salt though Batatas ao murro
@@jigarshah1438 Well that’s probably because the Portuguese went there and took over a section like GOa . , Daman, Dadrá and Nagar Haveli, which were all Portuguese colonies and the language is still there
@@Cloverdew4406 I add it afterwords but I just use one of those silicone brushes (I forgot what they are called) to spread it on. I use finely chopped garlic and parsley and it's delicious.
I nearly had a heart attack at "And then put em in a 425° oven" Sometimes I forget that Americans use the random number generator for measuring temperatures
YES!!! I was willing to get on board with the new potatoes- even though they don’t roast brilliantly- but when he started with the onion and garlic sh*t.... no, he’s gone too far
@@clareshaughnessy2745 Well yes I am but I have lived in the States for many years. I even have the British sence of humor I don't know why I didnt pick up on it!!!
Ok when he said fork tender people, he means it goes in easily. I have to put that out there because I have a family member that thought if you could get a fork in (in any manner) that meant they were cooked. She ruined the potato salad for everyone but herself. She said it was the best she ever made. It was crunchy and shouldn't have been
You can do this perfectly in a pan: no oven, no boiling needed. You keep all the nutrients in and they taste DELICIOUS. I only boil potatoes when I make mash. I don’t understand why so few people seem to know this simple and delicious way to pan fry potatoes.🤷♀️🤦♀️
