People don’t understand how hard it is to play a kit this way. And why does he do that? Style.
@Abandoned978
@Abandoned978 2 года назад
@@OGecalien well, I don't think it's a style thing. Having the toms flat allows for more of the force of the stick to be thrown directly into the drums. Playing them flat like that, however, would also mean they'd need to be lower so you're actually hitting the drum and not the rims

If you can't play this song; you should not be a drummer... that's how easy this song is to play.
@nobears2983
@nobears2983 11 лет назад
The song itself is in 4/4, but what Travis is playing has a 5/4 feel to it in that he's playing five-beat phrases. If you listen past the drums to what the bass is playing, it's pretty clear where the measures are, and they're definitely in 4/4. So you could kind of argue this either way--if it was a drum solo, I'd probably notate the first few measures in 5/4, but given the context of the song, I'd say it's just 4/4 with interesting phrasing in the drums.
@anggeraprasetyo5616
@anggeraprasetyo5616 4 года назад
Is 5/4 the part when he do some single stroke roll fill?
@nobears2983
@nobears2983 4 года назад
anggera prasetyo No, just the intro of the song before the vocals come in - but it's not actually 5/4. It's eight measures of 4/4, and he's playing five rounds of a 5-beat phrase that crosses the bar and then re-aligns with the rest of the band for the last seven beats leading into the first verse.

@hazza4pompeyfc I'm not saying he doesn't have talent, but to be considered among the greats is to be outstanding. Benny Greb, Gavin Harrison, Danny Carey, Marco Minneman, Neil Peart, Simon Phillips, Todd Sucherman etc, are just a few examples of some of the greatest around. While Travis may succeed in his genre, the men I listed have gone above and beyond in their fields and are cut from a different cloth than most of today's drummers. There's just simply no comparison

That just means he is the most inspiring drummer to kids, or the best drummer in his genre. There are drummers who are far more talented and just better at the actual craft and art of being a drummer and percussionist (groove, feel, sense of timing in regards to experimenting with different time signatures not just 4/4, etc). Travis is dope and entertaining to watch, but his beats are basic and sound like simple warmups, and there are countless drummers who could destroy him in all aspects

@notatroll6809
@notatroll6809 Год назад
Haters of barker don't consider how he changed the expectations and reality of what a drum set can do and sound like for the punk genre. He would mimic the melodies of the guitar and vocals, not too mention being an icon. Young drummers try to replicate his look and style of playing. You don't have to like him or his music but to not realize that makes you total snob.
@yungkfs2554
@yungkfs2554 11 лет назад
Oh yeah because Barker is going to play immensely complicated stuff for the punk rock he's playing? Hitting hard has an effect on the audience, play with energy and its feeds off into them, they react to it, and it continuously cycles from audience to band. Hitting hard really isn't just to 'look cool'.

@TwoThirdsTall
@TwoThirdsTall 11 лет назад
No thats wrong it doesn't "feed energy" it has no effect they lower his volume to compensate for for his hard hitting so if he played like a normal drummer they'd just put his volume back up and he'd sound exactly the same. His shiny drums and flailing arms captures idiots attention and because of that they think he's good he's no better than the average 15 or 16 year old drummer. And before you bring up the fact he's famous he only is because the rest of his band wrote decent music.

@benjseig
@benjseig 7 лет назад
Fun fact, Tom Delonge started writing his guitar parts to Travis' drumming on blink-182's album, "Enema of the State," because of his creative and melodic drumming. He's famous because he's a good drummer who can play more melodically on drums than some people can play on a guitar.

No he has no creativity and his speed is pretty average among professional drummers, and the only reason he's famous is because his shiny kit and hitting drums as hard as he can appeals to young kids who think they know what drumming is
