@@Sherwoodybingo. There’s a reasonable explanation - even though that wasn’t what they were thinking at the time. To be frank, it’s a bit pathetic to be trying to dunk on a show aimed at kids decades ago…..

@@datacipher it’s like how Mrs. Kent was able to make Superman’s costume from the indestructible blue and red blanket he was wrapped in when they found him. It’s fireproof, waterproof, bullets bounce off of it, and knives can’t penetrate it. Yet Mrs Kent was able, with nothing more than a pair of scissors, a needle, and some thread able to fashion his indestructible clothing. As kids we just kind of didn’t think about that.

I often thought about that. I'm pretty sure those boots were custom fitted, and he took some awesome leaps.

In 1977, I was in a motel in Orlando, FL. While channel-surfing the room's TV, I was startled to see an episode of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN - in color! I had assumed that the 1950's series had been filmed in black-and-white just like all the others of the period. A little research revealed that the producers had such faith in the coming of color television that they filmed the final seasons in color (even though color broadcasting was not available for years).

I respectfully have to disagree. The B & W photography (and no nonsense mayhem) made the first season seem like mini fim noirs (without the noir losers). If you can get past "the guy in the clown suit", those episodes are pretty suspenseful when you figure the target audience was kids.

Looks like the outline of a toy boat around Superman. I'm guessing they used some film editing trick to remove the boat and replace it with film of Superman flying.

The time was the early 50's the TV show was made. Supergirl (Superman's cousin) came out 1959 in the comics the early 50's Jimmy wishing for a SUPER-GIRL to be Superman's sole-mate.

It happens. In a different episode, Gunner Flinch shot his six-shooter seven times. 😃

One of the many things I like about the TV series is that Superman isn't all powerful. He was mighty, to be sure, but not to the extent that he could lift submarines. I did not follow the comics closely enough to know with certainty, but I think the Superman mighty enough to move planets came later in the 50s.

In the comics he lifted ships with one hand and flew with it, but the ship would have broken in half. (probably with the same suspension of belief as a flying man strong enough to lift a ship).
