@colbybeltz8836

1. There is only one vocalist (Spenser Sotelo) 2. This album (Juggernaut: Omega) is a concept album with a full story, as this is the conclusion 3. This song has nothing to do with the TV series Stranger Things as the album was released before the series 4. The person of this story is in the underworld, believing it’s his time to leave but is confused why he’s still imprisoned down there (“hourglass is spinning”) finally, he becomes reborn into the overworld, as his new life starts off and is possible to escape his past life [in Juggernaut: Alpha] that brought him to the underworld in the first place. In his past life, he was born into an cult that he always considers unholy but couldn’t escape (“man in control”). The “demon of the day” refers to his own intellectual demon that he was under during a time of brainwash in the cult. [better explained in the song MK Ultra which is in Juggernaut: Alpha] 5. Y’all are spot on, amazing analysis
@VinAndSori
@VinAndSori 6 лет назад
My ultra?? They named a song mk ultra???!!!! Bad ass!
@Tarkess
@Tarkess 6 лет назад
Yeah, the story of the album is partially about a religious cult (in part inspired by True Detective), and I believe the song MK Ultra is about the main character going through brainwashing, the title obviously being a reference to the CIA program of the same name. I don't think it's actually ABOUT the CIA program, it's just a reference with the whole brainwashing thing being the link.

I get what you mean. They are all in the Djent family tree though. Meshuggah being the origin. Despite all those bands being significantly lighter and featuring clean vocals. They are just poppy, much more accessible Djent. I would guarantee that all these bands would list Meshuggah as a major, if not main influence.

YES! Some Periphery! I'm legitimately surprised you guys liked this. I am especially surprised after Vin said he didn't generally like prog metal too much. Also, I didn't think you'd like Spencer Sotelo's vocals (the only vocalist), after disliking Rob Halford's vocals, which made me think you didn't like singers who belted so high, lol. But I'm glad I'm wrong. As I'm sure others have said, this song is the closer to their concept double album: Juggernaut: Alpha and Omega. It would be another great experience to listen to all the way through. ;) Spencer said he took inspiration from shows / movies like True Detective and Rosemary's Baby for the lyrics and imagery. Also, these albums came out way before the show 'Stranger Things' was released, but there may have been some sort of inspiration somewhere.

It would be crazy awesome for you guys to do the full Juggernaut story. It is broken up over 2 albums (Alpha being part 1, Omega part 2), and in regards to how close you were - you were on the right track. I do think with a full listen you would be able to fill in the parts you were a little off about, but overall a great review/reaction. You both go into so much more detail than other channels and it is appreciated!

Yes! Periphery! And my favorite song by them too! You need some back story to this. This is the last song of the 2 part concept album written by Spencer their vocalist. Basically its about a man who is born into a cult. Hes forced to do horrible things. And he tries to leave. But he gets brought back. And he meets a woman. The "Priestess" which is another song. They fall in love and want to leave. But they know if they do, they will be hunted and killed. She is found and put in a jail of sorts and tortured. But she tells him to leave. She dies and when he leaves so does he. Which is this song. Hjs journey into another realm. The next life. Spencer has said he doesnt believe in god or heaven, but that his character will have gone to whatever higher place there is.
@Smithysmithin
@Smithysmithin 6 лет назад
He did say also that his soul was trapped in purgatory or something like that. And at the end he finds his ascension. But funnily, because he killed the cult haha.

Vin, masochists enjoy their own pain, while sadists enjoy the pain of others. Thus the term S&M. Not clearing that up was killing me. This song is awesome though; you should checkout Tesseract - Luminary. Teseract are of similar quality to Periphery.

Vocally, Spencer Sotello is a powerhouse. He has ridiculous levels of control over how clean or muddied/gruff his voice is. His growls aren’t as impressive, but still fantastic. Instrumentally though, these guys are a nuclear fusion of chaos, groove and technicality. It all blends together into a beautiful, sonic bliss. I often just lay in bed playing their full discography front to back, simply letting time flow by for a bit. Glad you guys had a chance to experience such a band as this and I always enjoy your breakdowns of lyrical concepts and the varied methods of storytelling you find within music. And you yourselves are quite the fonts of knowledge. Glad to see such expansive thoughts and world views explained through your past experiences and your spreading of that knowledge and experience. Keep doing what you’re doing guys, glad I ran into your channel some months ago now.

My favorite band of all time, so glad you guys did a review of them. Their discography is riddled with classics. Probably way too many to list them all on here, but since you guys seem to enjoy the heavier stuff here are a few suggestions: Masamune, Ragnarok, Make Total Destroy, Zyglrox, Psychosphere, The Bad Thing, and their cover of The Heretic Anthem from Slipknot.
@usaflagraybans
@usaflagraybans 6 лет назад
The song is part of a two part concept album. It starts off with a baby being born to a cult and having a demon sealed within him. As it goes throughout the story, he ends up killing the cult in revenge for the torture and then takes his own life. Stranger Things is telling the story of how he’s in the underworld. The melody that appears at the very end of the song is a recall from the first song of the Juggernaut albums, A Black Minute, which implies that he’s become a demon and is being summoned by another cult, also implying that the story will go through the same cycle. To really appreciate the full scope of the song, you should listen to the albums together. There’s tons of lyrics that come throughout the albums as well as music. The amount of thought they put into these albums is staggering. If you’re not interested in hearing all of the concept, but want to hear some more from this band, definitely check out Periphery III: Select Difficulty. They stepped up their songwriting even from Juggernaut.

You guys should really consider sitting down and doing a full album review of this. I haven’t looked through the rest of the comments to see, but I’m sure someone has told you by now that Juggernaut: Omega is the second part of a double concept album. The whole thing is truly incredible and considering how much you enjoyed this song, I’m sure you’ll feel the same way. Both musically and lyrically, the album has great recurring motifs and themes. With how much you value really breaking down the song, you’d probably spend a whole day on it, but it’s a really rewarding listen and it stands up to repeat listenings very well. Since release I’ve given this one easily a hundred full plays and I still find new reasons to love it every time. Awesome video. Keep up the thoughtful and insightful content!

That intro was hilarious lmao I would've recommend Flatline over this song but still not a bad song. This song has no relation to the TV show because Periphery released a double concept album, Alpha/Omega. It's about a man who grows up in a cult, kills and all that bad stuff, realizes the error of his ways, gets out and can't adjust to a normal life, then ends up going back to the cult and it's worse than before he left. If anyone is interested I can find the video of Spencer (the singer) talking about it. But I'm just glad you two finally discovered Periphery. Incredible band.

So good seeing Periphery getting some love on here! I've been following Misha's work since his Bulb days. This double concept album is an excellent introduction to this style of work. I really enjoyed your discussion about it coming from a position of not knowing it was a concept project. "Exhale your death and feel life" is probably one of my favorite lines ever. It's such a great visual. The whole song is a beautiful, spiritual trip. It's awesome that you guys really enjoyed it! You should absolutely check out Tesseract since you guys enjoyed this so much. Those dudes are masters of this style of very atmospheric, yet hard hitting music and Dan Tompkins is an absolute POWERHOUSE of a vocalist. And yes, you guys need to binge Stranger Things. Like...now. And oh good lord yes do a live listen of Portal of I or Citadel by Ne Obliviscaris. I will get on my knees and beg for that if I have to! One small correction: a masochist derives pleasure from their own pain/humiliation. A sadist is one who drives pleasure from the pain/humiliation of others. Much love guys! -Jason

You guys touched briefly on a really fascinating concept, which is the aesthetics, and aestheticization of violence. Laurent Tailhade once said "What do the victims matter, so long as the gesture is beautiful?" Oddly enough I first heard this quote when Deathspell Omega used it to open one of their EPs, Mass Grave Aesthetics, with it. We love violence though. Truly. We have always loved violence through the ages. Whether it be the pastime of watching Christians being mauled to death in the coliseums, or a brutal football tackle, it's all violence, and it's pleasing within the context of society. This is without even touching on violence in art, cinema, music, etc.

Love these guys - got to hang out with them briefly after a show several years back and they're all genuinely nice and down to earth guys. 22 Faces is another great song off of this album (the first half of the album, Juggernaut: Alpha), MK Ultra is great, and songs on other albums of theirs you guys would like are Luck as a Constant, Prayer Position, Marigold, Light, Jetpacks Was Yes!, and Scarlet. (I really like these guys, if you can't tell. Hahaha)

I really enjoyed your guy's interpretation of the song without having context of the previous story of the whole concept album, it was impressive really. I'd love to hear you break down and interpret each song in the Juggernaut album!

Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I is just such a fantastic album it's hard to pick one song off of, but since you guys already did Plague Flowers I would recommend Forget Not. But yeah the full album is an hour long and it's a journey man. I'm like Sori when I listen to it, just close my eyes and go to a different place.

Hey guy's I had never heard this band before. Thanks for the introduction. Black crown initiate, Rivers of nihil, and Persefone are similar bands and should be kept on your radar.

Not what I expected typing this into RU-vid. Lol but I definitely recommend you guys listen to both Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega if you haven’t already by now. Spencer the lead vocalist actually did an interview that explains the entire series if you would like to see that. It’s an intense story and definitely great to listen to when I’m cleaning around the house. It’s like listening to a movie and imagining everything that’s happening instead of worried about what’s happening on the TV. Really great to get lost in.

Go with Tesseract’s Lament. It’s probably not a super popular pick, but I see you two liking it a lot, and it has everything to love about Tesseract.

Although unrelated to the show, there is a joke that one of the band members did where he said that the song was so good people made a show and named it after the song.

Great breakdown of the lyrics, very close. Juggernaut: Alpha/Omega is a two part concept album, alpha being the first half and omega being the second half, the vocalist Spencer did a breakdown of the whole story in an interview, very fascinating. Do the whole album breakdown sometime! Fantastic band.

Jumping all over the place watching random “reaction videos” and you guys are awesome. Periphery is a kick ass band. If you listen to juggernaut alpha and omega in order the 2 albums tell a story and it’s awesome. (And yes just 1 vocalist)

This makes me think you guys will really like Protest the Hero. They are very similar to Periphery in a lot of ways. Here I am again pushing PROTEST THE HERO - C'EST LA VIE!
