i really do agree with the other people actually, you guys will love reptile. it has a lot more going on explicitly than stranger things, which has a lot of implicit details. both songs are epic but in different ways. stranger things has you swaying, while reptile has you bouncing. if you can get past the fact that it's 16 minutes long, it's very rewarding.
Periphery's Stranger Things is like the conclusion of a story they were telling throughout the entire concept album the song is on. As a standalone, it can definitely be divisive. Now Reptile, is a self-contained story in one song, so it's hella long and you have to dedicate time to listen to it, but I personally think it's worth the occasional listen, if not playlist. I'm waiting for them to get to Dracula Gras, though! I KNOW they're going to lose their minds on that one!
reptile always finds its way onto my spotify queue whenever im on a long-enough bus ride. i dont know how it manages to do that every single time, but it does lol
Juggernaut alpha/omega is a concept album, and in the context this song is brilliant enough, but standalone I also enjoy it a lot for spencer's range, DAT RIFF, and the falsetto in the beginning always makes me smile too. 10/10
specific parts of the song are an antithesis to other parts of the album, "majestic aura" to "sadistic horror" (from Psychosphere, the last track on Juggernaut Alpha, Stranger Things is the last track of Juggernaut Omega). Can't stress enough it's meant to be experienced start to finish. All the little motifs and spencer's lyrical finesse are like fingerprints all over. You'll love it
This is actually my favorite from them. I get why it's probably not their best for most, but I specifically like the groove on this and how the song is progressively linear if that makes sense. Not as flashy and technical as their popular stuff but for me hits the sweet spot of simple and heavy.
Not true actually. I've been on the periphery subreddit a lot lately, the one song that comes up the most by far in people's top 10s or 5s is stranger things. Not everyone's favorite but it's definitely their most unanimously loved song
Well, that title and the lack of strong reaction to the drops has me a little surprised before I even get to your commentary. I think I realize that I appreciate this track so much because I know the band so well. I think a first time listen can make it hard to digest everything going here, not that you guys don't understand metal or anything. But I think once you hear Spencer a lot you pick up on just how impressive all the little things he does are, and you can catch the intricacies of the instrumentals. I recommend checking out the instrumental version of this one to really hear how sick some of the riffs in here are. Another thing that elevates this song is that it's the ending track to a 2 disc concept album that tells a crazy story that puts the main character through a lot of intense shit. If you know the context then it just makes the emotional aspect of the song that much stronger. Alright, other than Reptile...man, I dunno. I guess it's time for something from P2. How about "Make Total Destroy"? Yeah, that's the name.
Wow I was waiting for something from Periphery again. I love it, discovered your channel like 2 weeks ago and I guess I've already watched your every Opeth/Porcupine Tree/Periphery reactions and you are my new fav reactions channel. :D You are amazing, I love listening these songs with you❤ Cheers from Poland
i agree with what u guys are saying at the end here. ill be honest, all the periphery tracks youve reacted to are really difficult, awkward tracks. i like them, but theyre not the kind of tracks i play on repeat, blood eagle i have in the playlist, thats an exception. but i do have a good 25 periphery songs in my playlist that you guys havent gone near yet so glad you like these ones, but theres a lot you guys havent heard and a lot of tunes im guessing wont feel so long and hard to stick with.
Music recommendation: new album from "Unprocessed". Blend of Animals as Leaders, Sleep Token, and a bit of Spiritbox thrown in there. Their new album its like they woke up and chose violence. Very talented band and they arent afraid to put that out on display. You wont be disappointed.
This has been my favorite Periphery song since the release of Juggernaut. This song really finishes off the double disk concept album with perfection and still remains to hit me so hard when listening to it.
that's pretty much periphery alright. they're really good at being an introductory band to prog and djent - they're musically complex but not too much, which makes them a lot more digestible for people who aren't as into it.
