Poking holes one bead at a time is very tedious. You can press another board onto the masking tape so all holes are poked in one go :)

Dry Bonez Sure. When you placed all the beads on the pegboard and put masking tape on, you take another pegboard. You put the second pegboard upside down on the masking tape (with the points facing the tape) and press the upper pegboard with your hands. The points of that board should poke holes in the masking tape. The pieces of tape that overlap, I usually poke holes in them beforehand.

I decided to buy myself a perler set on Amazon, as to do something new and creative on 2021. Gotta say, the ironing part is what I'm scared off the most, since the whole uneven part was my biggest worry, but it seems that it is quite normal. Thank you for these videos, they truly help!!

for the masking tape method you only need to poke a few holes in one side then flip over and push the tape onto a peg board. It saves so much more time.

Or u xan use the same pegboard to put pressure on it with ur hand once beads are on maskin tape

I think flat melt is mainly ideal for coasters. But as the video said: "Personal preference". Whenever a piece is ironed and sturdy, I like to do one quick, final zap on both sides to flatten them down. I've unwarped several slightly warped pieces by doing so.
@2nd-place
@2nd-place 4 года назад
I have another method: I mirror my design when laying it down so I don't have to use masking tape to make one side flat and the other clean. Then I don't have to fuss around with taking it off the board with tape. I also do a light fuse on the first pass, remove it from the board so it doesn't warp, and then do a heavier fuse on a flat surface so that the back side is sturdy and flat while the front is round and crisp.

I'm new to making perler bead art so when I melt the 2nd side by using the back side of the board, now the most recebt thing I made I tried doing both sides like the flat melt method, but I didn't know I keep it on one side the entire time. And result of that my board is now slightly warped and my project didn't go so well

I'm interested in knowing how you flip larger projects when using The Traditional Technique on the smaller peg boards. I used 6 to 8 at times and they all seem to fail. I don't like The Masking Tape Technique but it seems I might be stuck doing it.

I prefer the tape method but I've never poked holes in them. Still don't understand the need for that nor has is negatively effected my finished piece. I then iron both sides and depending on who it's for or what it is, I may flat iron one side and leave the other side with the illusion that it's untouched but they are fused enough to make it sturdy.

Commenting on an older video because I feel like the subject of my question is far better asked here. What should we do when one or more of our beads ends up falling for some reason? You put the same piece back at it's place and iron it again or do you get a new one and then iron it?

Sad to see no mention of heat settings. I use the tape method since i could never find a good setting that would melt my beads without warping my boards. And to that end...I see some folks use another board to poke their holes with the tape method, which I have had zero success with. I currently use a crocheting awl with a slight bend on the end to poke my holes. Not a bad video for folks that are just getting introduced to the hobby though. Keep up the good work. :)
@Pixelartshop
@Pixelartshop 9 лет назад
bee wwuuu Thank you! True, I didn't get into heat settings in this video because I've found every iron I've used to be different. Not only the dial itself (some display 1-10 while some have the names for different fabrics) but the temperatures associated with each setting. "High" is not the exact same temperature on every iron. I'm glad you brought this up though because I'd advise anyone reading this to 'get to know' their iron. Which parts heat up the most, which settings work best for them... Some may prefer to have it on a lower setting. This takes longer but you have more control over your beads melting. Higher settings have the beads melting faster but there's a greater risk of your project warping. I hear about board warping but to be honest it's never been a problem for me. Anyway, thanks for your comment! It's always fun to talk shop.
@AriesFireTiger
@AriesFireTiger 9 лет назад
Pixel Art Shop Word. I had to experiment with my iron for a while before I found a setting I like. I use a low "wool" setting on my cheap, Sunbeam-brand iron. It takes a little while to do the melting, but the end result is fantastic so I can't complain about this inexpensive iron(though I'm sure that better options exist). I try to keep active on the beadsprites reddit as ariesfiretiger86. Happy beading everyone!
@davidjackman717
@davidjackman717 9 лет назад
bee wwuuu I use the polyester setting on my iron, which is in the middle. It melts the beads pretty well, but you have to be careful not to over-iron the edges. Also, I like your stuff on reddit! It's a good community.

***** Thanks. After some research it seems my iron may not be the greatest for this hobby since the soleplate has holes in it(heat is not evenly distributed) but i turn my iron constantly in an attempt to counteract this flaw in the iron. The community on beadsprites at reddit is amazing, a lot of positive and helpful people there

Hi Kyle, Was wondering if you could help me. When ironing large pieces I do get wrinkles in the final project from the paper. I’ve tried all papers and this time I used Perlers Mega Roll. Is there a way to prevent the wrinkles? If I go back over it with the iron a second time can I get some of the wrinkles out? I only ironed one side and I ironed it almost to a flat melt point. Right now presentation side is perfect but I want some of the wrinkles gone from the backside. This is a semi large piece 14” x 23” and I would like the melted side to look a little better than it does. Will going over it a second time with the iron help any or just make it look worse?
@irisx
@irisx 7 лет назад
Hey Kyle, I've got a kind of peculiar question. Whenever I iron using traditional method, my pieces tend to curl - could this be because I am ironing one particular side too hot too quickly? It is definitely not the weighting down at the end, because I have weighted down with books for 12 hours previously and the piece is still kind of curved.

@bluemonker

Does anyone ever peel the masking tape off and iron the other side too? Or, is that not recommended? I have new pegboards that seem to curve downwards a little at the corners. I am using the full board and my iron missed the beads at the edges. I was thinking of trying the masking tape method, however, I need the design to be sturdy.

You are probably using too much heat. Its better to set it at low heat, dowside its taking longer to iron, but you have more control not too over iron the beads. The traditional boards can't take too much high heat, while the see through boards can take a bit more heat. Either way low heat better and save you money in th e long term.
