Here's a little longer version of Part 8 in my series walking through various elements of my holiday lighting show and setup. In 2020, I stepped up to a permanent custom solution for my eaves. These remain up all year long! In this extended cut, I show my jig for consistently drilling the J-channel and you can see how I mounted it.
Parts and construction: I used vinyl J-Channel (TimberCrest "Sandstone" J-Channel perfectly matched my painted eaves) that I drilled myself using a drill press (with a jig I built for consistency). I tested both 2" and 3" pixel spacing and ended up using 3" pixel spacing. These are mounted under my eaves with 3M Double-Sided Scotch Permanent Outdoor Tape. It holds super strong, and since these are under my eaves, they won't be hit with any direct weather (rain or snow). For over a year, they've held flawlessly.

just found your channel. i am an old school Light-o-Rama (LOR) guy from back in the day. thinking of getting back into this madness. love all the tutorial videos. I am familiar with x-lights and pixels, have used plenty of LED strip in my time. looking forward to doing some form of this to my eaves for year round holiday lighting. thanks again for the great videos and how to's. Happy New Year, and hope you and family stay safe.

I tried the double sided tape and it won’t stick. Around the garage door, no problem. Got on top of the house and tried to stick it on and it wouldn’t grab. I guess the builder said no need to texture the 2nd floor since no one will look that close. Pissed me off and now I have to get a boom lift to screw them on now.

Nice. I 'm moving in the next few weeks and will do this with the new place, instead of Boscoyo Coro and PVC and hanging it every year. I'm totally over that.. :)

Basically a fading effect across all the eaves grouped together.

Hi could or have you done a video on the power supply/supplies you use for this? Like can this run of one 110v plug or do you have to inject power every 20 feet. Does all that lighting lead to one box or do you have multiple. Thanks great video this helping a lot but the power end is getting a little jumbled in my head lol.
@GandorFamilyLightShow
@GandorFamilyLightShow 2 года назад
All my eaves (and a few other props) run off just one 12v 350watt power supply. Each eave is its own port (and less than 150 pixels), so it doesn't need any extra power injection, and all goes to just one box/controller/power.

How did the corners work ? Were they difficult ?
@GandorFamilyLightShow
@GandorFamilyLightShow 2 года назад
Not sure I understand your question. If you mean the tops of each peak, I simply have a section or two up the left side, then ones down the right. At the top the two sections have normal pigtails to connect.

How much tape did you use on the j channel the entire length of the channel or did you cut up certain length strips every so far?
@GandorFamilyLightShow
@GandorFamilyLightShow 2 года назад
About 50% tape coverage: 1ft of tape, 1ft gap, etc. Making sure the start and end of each section is well-taped.

How did you power inject your roof line?
@GandorFamilyLightShow
@GandorFamilyLightShow 3 года назад
Didn't need to. Everything runs at 30% brightness plus each section is a separate port (in case a pixel goes out, less downstream impact) and therefore no section is longer 190 pixels.
@jessearnold2623
@jessearnold2623 3 года назад
You mentioned that if you have a pixel go out that you replace the whole section rather than just field repairing the individual pixel. The link to the double sided tape says permanent. Are you able to easily remove the section with the double sided tape?
@LoblollyLights
@LoblollyLights 3 года назад
I'm also curious about how well the tape comes off when you need to replace a section. How hard is it on the paint?
@GandorFamilyLightShow
@GandorFamilyLightShow 3 года назад
@@jessearnold2623 It's definitely stuck on REALLY WELL, but it IS possible to pry off.
@GandorFamilyLightShow
@GandorFamilyLightShow 3 года назад
@@LoblollyLights I've only had to replace one section and it did take off a little paint (but considering it's on the underside of my eave and covered back up by the replacement light section, can't see it.
