Haha, yeah Pea was a showman. He didn't just outslick guys, he clowned them too. It's amazing that he would be so relaxed and in such a mental frame of mind to joke around when facing the best fighters in the world. The guy was a different breed of fighter.
Sweet Pea's reflexes are second to none. Unfortunately it would have been better if he used his reflexes more for offense than defense although it would be frustrating for any opponent to be punching at air.
Not his best performance, but what do you expect? He's a natural Lightweight facing a big, strong, powerful, feared Junior Middleweight, and he still handily won.
Man what are you talking about, pernell and leonard had diferent styles, besides that the leonard fights were at welter and for the second fight duran had to drop close to 100 pounds even leonard admits this.. and at lightweight as much as i admire pernell there wont be other fighter like duran at lightweight..
@DrSamuelLoomis you are generalizing big time. What about JM Marquez, Salvador Sanchez, Miguel Canto, Ricardo Lopez among many other latino fighters that had a high ring IQ?
Vasquez gave a good fight, tough as nails and a hard puncher, but Sweet Pea still had great reflexes on him that out Floyd to shame. I agree Sweet Pea beats Duran, but not Montreal Duran hell no. Thats Whitakers nightmare.
Pea has never been impressive performer and doesnt have the big punch. I dont know what people see in him. I will say that with his style he is a real winner and rarely losses. I surely dont think he lost this fight with Vasquez and embarrassed Chavez. Third best southpaw since 1980.
@budfr you really don´t know anything about boxing do you? Boxing is defense and offense i´ve been a boxer and ill tell you this when some 1 gets tired you need to clinch even if you dont see them tired a little clinch can give them abit of air.
