Join me as I paint plein Air in Wentworth’s spectaculr Perry Sandhills. This one is a very arid landscape and has such a unique beauty. Sand is challenging for me to paint and there was certainly no escaping it here! This painting is oil paint on a plywood board and I used a combination of brushes and pallet knives to create it. Thanks for watching, please be sure to give it a like and subscribe to my channel and feel free to drop a comment.

I just really appreciate that you are sharing some beautiful sites for painting. I think your sand colors are perfect and the way you captured the ups and downs in the sand give depth to your painting. Thank you for continuing to share your talents with us.😊

Another wonderful piece! I think you really did a great job with the vegetation. And I can’t help but smile at the beginning of your videos - that big smile and your obvious enthusiasm is contagious. ❤❤❤

As usual, you've done an amazing job capturing the scene. It's kind of a bummer that the light changed and removed those fun grooves in the sand, but you handled it well in the painting. I'm also glad you didn't sacrifice your safety to capture the sand grooves later in the day. I didn't get what you meant when you said you "...had signal..." on that one sand dune. Does that mean you heard a creepy noise that spooked you, and you called your mom to calm you down a bit? (I used to do this whenever Claire or Tess McLeod would say something I didn't recognize, which was pretty often.) I'm also curious about the painting before this which you weren't happy with. I think that'd be an interesting video if you could talk us through the aspects which didn't go to plan, or which maybe required a studio fix later.

Thank you so much!! No, signal means phone reception, we don't usually have any connection on our phone out bush in Australia, sorry again didn't realise it was not a world wide term again. Oh no the painting before was just a total flop, I scraped it off the canvas with my pallet knife and actually after all the paint was removed it was an improvement 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

@@Kate_Bonnie This one's on me. We use the word "signal" here the same way, although I think we say "cell signal" or "phone signal", or at least I do. Also, maybe it was just early when I watched this, and I wasn't properly awake. 😄

@@DQ_ArtGroupie all good 🤣 I totally understand, I don't function great early in the morning. Yeah we tend to shorten a lot of phrases over here so I've never had to use the word phone infront of it before.

everythings great and its one of your best ones so far :) saand in the foreground is kinda off hmm maybe one or very few lines would be better? it would fit the sand on the background and look better. but its just my opinion :) edit: or just skip the part, or paint it the differently then it rly looks. I noticed some time ago during pleinair that sometimes making a painting you rly dont have to make it 100% like its in reality. It doesnt have to be like a photography. Skip some parts that u dont like, or paint it the way it will make our painting look better. Nobody rly cares (unfortunately :D ) if the painting they see shows exactly how the place looks in real. They just want to see a nice painting. It is important for the artist, but unfortunately not for the viewer because they rly werent there, didnt see it in real. So they just want to see a nice painting. I noticed that when i was showing my works to my parents and brother, sometimes making it more simple did the work better, and saying " its how it looked in real" doesnt make the paintings look better :D last painting i did i just decided to skip the damn tree, it just didnt look good hehe. Just a tip :)

Sometimes I do skip things or move things around, but I'm actually happy with this one I mean it's always harder to paint things that go downhill from where you are standing.

@@Kate_Bonnie yep, i was referring to the patterns of sand in the foreground, i saw u had problems with it and it would be a good painting also without those patterns or very reduced number of them, and easier. But yea, its always a training :)

When you are plein air painting you should paint in the highlights and shadows first rather than from back to front hope this tip helps

Nah, I have tried that it doesn't work for me, I know that's how most people do it, thanks anyway 🙂
