Another note on the "You're not me!" thing: in P4 The Animation's retelling of the Shadow Naoto fight they actually _do_ try to stop Naoto from saying it but Kanji stops them, pointing out that, as horrible it is, it _has_ to happen so Naoto can face her Shadow and move forward instead of continuing to bury those feelings forever. To reach acceptance, you _need_ that moment of denial.
@@chloewinnaa1515 Yeah but I think it also further proves that he has some of the best character growth in P4; even his Social Link is one of the better ones imo
I wish it works that way, but I think if you do that, your shadow would simply laugh and say something like, "Who are you trying to convince? Your shadow or yourself? I am you. I know that you don't *really* accept me."
Like in Persona 5, Haru couldn't just get a persona like the others immediately. She partially rejected the truth on how her father really was a criminal, which is why she couldn't manifest a persona at the beginning. It wasn't until she 100% accepted that fact that her persona was unleashed.
I mean technically, just saying that you're them doesn't really mean you're actually accepting them you know? You could just be saying that while denying them in your heart. And i think it goes both ways too. You could deny them when you know they're right and you've already accepted them, but still cant say it out loud.
I get the idea of "My arcana would be",but "My shadow would be" is just stupid, the shadow is the part you reject,if you are telling it on the internet you aren't rejecting it :v
Feels a lot different without "Take THIS!" "Counting on ya!" "BearSONA!" "Lay down and DIE already!" "I am thou... there!" "All yours!" But let's not forget *CHIE SENPAI'S HEALTH IS REALLY LOW*
There's something poetic about literally facing yourself. Your inner feelings being made manifest in a physical form and attacking you where it hurts most. And then finally accepting it as a part of you and having it fight alongside you. This game speaks to me on so many levels. I love it.
The Persona series is the amazing. The lessons it teaches in such a artistic way is the reason why I love it. I have met very little amount of games that do it so well.
+Diamond Falcon What didn't you like about kingdom Hearts It is your opinion I'm not going to attack you for it I'm just curious. I hate WatchMojo for a different reason.
I like the idea of someone's shadow just standing there laughing at them and just before they start the denial bait the character says "I'll save myself the trouble. You're me, I get it. Now shut up and give me a cool persona"
Glacier Manga Well, if that happened in the game, you wouldn't have a dungeon boss, so of course it doesen't happen there. When it comes to "real life" (i used quotation marks 'cause no way in fuck would there be a TV world irl), it's very possible for someone to know of all their faults and more dark facets of themselves, so it wouldn't be too far-fetched for a person who is aware of everything wrong with themselves to just say to their Shadow: " Yeah, yeah, i already know all of this. Now get lost and gimme my Persona."
GLW gameplayer True that. Kanji and Labrys are some of my favourite Persona characters just cuz of stuff like that. Kanji falcon punches his Shadow, while Labrys makes her's go tsundere for her.
CrimsonSpirit it is especially awesome in the anime because both boys are terrified both girls are too enraged to fight and teddie is still on his pacifistic streak.then kanji just punches it and dissolves everything but the part which looks like him in one shot.
Too bad they all suck stat wise Seriously why can’t we just have the MC have a stupidly OP Persona to make us feel OP and then proceed to get my ass handed to me by the first boss so I feel stupid for relying on it too often
Shadow: Go on... say it. Me: You’re me. Shadow: yes... haha- wait what!? No! You’re supposed to deny me! Me: well... Idk, I’m a mess and kinda accepted that. Shadow: Y-you’re not me! Me: *I don’t think that’s how it works...*
Notice how in a normal battle and miniboss battle your party surrounds the enemy team, but in a boss battle against a shadow character your team stands in a row. You are literally facing the shadow self
I love how the kidnapped characters get to say every single time, "You're not me!" Hence the battle. Honestly, the team should just bring some ductape when rescuing someone from the TV, that'll definitely save them the trouble.
+loттy (Ƙσнι-тαη) You can't just tell someone to accept something in front of a group it's not that simple because Shadows are exaggerated to extremes the biggest examples being things like Chie's, Rise's, and Kanji's. So it's not as simple as you going "Oh you're me, and I'm you." it's gotta come from the heart.
_I'm aware of that, hahaha. As if the actual way to solve is, is through the ductape method, if this was abridged -sure. But I dunno, I was looking for more creative ways for them to reject their shadows. ;;_
I don't know why people are posting about what their shadow's domains would be like. The whole point of a shadow's domain is something that you either don't realize is a part of you, or something that you push so far down into your soul that even in your moments alone, you can't bring yourself to admit to yourself. It's a part of you that not even you can accept, but even if it were true before you wrote a RU-vid comment about it, the mere act of you writing the comment would be you accepting that part of yourself, meaning that it is no longer valid. It's an inherent contradiction (albeit an interesting one)
+krackothunder Dude, I don't know anything about anybody, but there's like a 0.1% chance that these people commenting on RU-vid completely understand, accept and know EVERYTHING about themselves. Like, there's probably only a 1% of the world population that does :v
+Axl Low well, I wouldn't underestimate the youtubers my friend. Excepting your "shadow" is a fairly easy thing to do for some people. What stops our heroes from P4 from immediately excepting their true selves is not what's within, but the world around them. Because of the society they're living in--the appearances most of them uphold--to except something like "being a total sociopath wanting torture people for the sake of his own enjoyment" is not something they're gonna share with their neighbors. Take Tohru Adachi (
To be honest, I probably would take the appearance of another me as something more important, rather than scary, besides, for the record, the number of youtubers, is way lower than the number of people with youtube accounts. I already stated it, I don't know anything about anybody, I was just saying what I said basing myself on the normal characteristics of people these days, according to society and other common factors, it's not like I have to be right, there's a big chance I'm not :v I completely agree with you. And its accepting not "excepting".
Hey Smash fans, welcome to the Persona series! Enjoy your stay, the music is too good for you to leave. Edit: Shout out to all the new players coming from the PC version as well lol

Most people in this comments section are undervaluing how...wrong a Shadow's words would sound to you. They're parts of you that you can't understand until you face them. A Shadow version of you wouldn't seem like you at all. Imagine if you were very close to someone, and then your Shadow self told you that they hated that person. You would never think that, and it would lead to the "you're not me!" Besides, how would you know what a Shadow was? The people who know about Shadows aren't usually the ones who shout "You're not me!"
Thank fuck someone finally gets it. I mean, other people are at least being funny about it, but still. That would be fucking horrifying if that happened to someone
Nich White it’s parts you can’t face about but it’s dialed up way further. Such as kanji’s shadow. He is not a homosexual he just wants to be accepted.
You're way off. Missed the point entirely lol. It's precisely the fact that their shadows are expressing what part of them actually think, deep down, that makes them so angry and so irrationally desperate. They have actually felt those things sometimes but they don't want to admit it, be it to themselves or anyone else, so they try to suppress those feelings even harder, hence making their shadows stronger and growing as a person once they acknowledge them. Wouldn't make sense if they actually thought "I'm nothing like that lol"
Persona 4's battle theme is probably one the happiest and nicest I have ever heard. That's one of the reasons I love regular battles in that game so much. But this, this is one of the coolest more badass boss battle themes ever. The way it starts with those heavy guitars really gets you in the mood/zone. Yet, I love how it goes all melodic in the middle. It actually is the same tender melody that plays after you beat the boss and accept the other self. Such a nice song.
Yeah, the normal/special battle themes are catchy and kinda upbeat....then you go into a boss fight and this starts up and you think 'Okay, time to kick the shit out of this Shadow.'
Persona 3's battle theme: Early gamer: This is... kind of weird... it changes, right? Late gamer: WOO YEAH! [MUMBLES THE FUCK OUTTOVIT] Persona 4's Battle Theme: Early gamer: This is kinda nice Late gamer: This is kinda nice Persona 3's Master of Shadow: This is some bizarre shit. I love it. Persona 4's I'll Face Myself: This is kinda wei-WAIT HOLY SHIT YEAH Persona Q's Laser Beam: Bring it motherfuckers! Persona 3's Battle for Everyone's Souls: Muh hart Muh sole
I've never played any Persona game (I really want to fix that soon) and even *I* understand from my very limited knowledge that saying "My Shadow would be _____" kinda defeats the purpose of a shadow. Edit: Now that I love this series way too much 2 years later, I can confirm this.
YES SOMEONE SAYS IT Shadows aren't personal flaws. Shadows are what a person hates/fears the most about themself, so much so that they refuse to admit it. And whatever that is doesn't even have to be a flaw. Some people can't accept that there's nothing wrong with them, relatively speaking (Such as a character from Persona 5). Point is, very few people are willing to openly admit their deepest, darkest secrets.
Hell I don't want to admit my deepest darkest secrets. But I imagine coming face to face with it in a situation like in the tv would force me to accept it, not deny it. But there's really no way of testing that theory, it could be that i don't even recognize the part of me that I'm supressing.
@@danshakulawrence983 It depends. There are even people who do not have any problems into outing what they hate the most on themselves. Not everyone is Japanese to the core.
Its really funny how I thought this song slapped hard after hearing it in a Five Nights at Freddy's fan game of all things. I only got in to Persona later in life and firdt played Persona 4 when Golden came to Steam. I had no clue this was the boss theme till Shadow Yoskue. I couldn't stop laughing and jamming out at the same time.
The first 19 seconds of this song is so good, I cannot stop listening to that part. The way the guitar sounds is so beautiful. One of Shoji Meguro's best music and one of my favorite boss battle theme ever. Persona 4 is one of the best games I've ever played with one of the BEST cast ever in a game. Persona 4 is simply one of the greatest game of all time, Shoji Meguro is the best.
Now that I've actually got the chance to play both p5 and p4, two things: 1. I'll face myself > Blooming villan. Fight me 2. The entire mood of this song has changed in my mind because I realize now how terrifying it is to meet your shadow. The embodiment of the part of yourself you reject so badly to the point where the idea of it being you is alien and wrong. However, it's also the part one must accept because it is part of the truth of who that person ultimately is and the protagonists grow for the better after the encounter. Sorry I'm so late to the party on this. Glad I got it when it dropped on steam!
Putting Persona music into such a popular series like Smash is a BLESSING! Atlus now has a lot of more players interested in Persona than before. Their deal with Nintendo was GENIUS!

Shadow: Now, wait a second! Me: Oh, and your brother called earlier, something about that favor you owe him. Also, don't forget about- Shadow: W-wait! Can I just say, this theme is auch an amazing banger! It just sounds so awesome, gritty and emotionally charged! Absolutely perfect for facing overcoming a side of you so repulsive you've kept it hidden from even yourself
The shadows in Persona 4 are a mix of who that person's real (usually negative or surpressed) thoughts taken to the EXTREME and also what society sees them as (as far as I remember). I wonder what our shadows would be/look like based on the symbolism used in Persona 4 and our own thoughts and such? It's fun and rather self empowering to think of!
i mean, most of the time, we barely acknowledge our problems since most of us are busy doing things. But when we spend some time alone with ourselves and actually THINK about it, it hurts. So thinking about it once in a while could help convince us that the problems we have can be improved by us and us alone. You can get help from other about how to fix it, like when the protagonist and the other fight the shadow bosses, but they dont really eliminate them, as it isnt their shadow. Theyre helping someone convince themselves to help themselves show that they cant kick out part of themselves. It doesnt fix anything, and so they do realize the shadow is part of them, it turns into an ally, a feeling that was once negative and heavy to hold was made into something that can help them get through future obstacles. Oops, i wrote too much.
At some commentors, the name is not misleading. The friends don't face the shadow, they simply try stopping it from getting stronger. But in the end, the person who the shadow is based off accepts it which is facing themselves, and facing that this is part of them.

It's quite interesting how a song such as this causes so many people to confess their deepest hidden emotions that sometimes even they are unaware of themselves while most would struggle with this.
"Bro, no! Don't deny your Shadow, bro! It's gonna go berserk and kill us all! Oh, no! He's having an emotional turmoil, he can't hear us! Oh Izanagi, oh fuck!"
Now just thinking theoretically what would you think if persona’s and shadows where real? If I’m being honest that would be cool, but facing a shadow would be a nightmare since you’re literally facing the deepest darkest things about your self stuff that you may not KNOW.
Yel_l_ow Guy well we're all f'd tbh. in reality almost no one here wants to accept their shadows and true selves and since little to no people have personas who are also your friends, no one will come to protect you, so you basically die. unless you accept your shadow for who it is. or meet a gas station attendant whose handshake makes your head dizzy.
Some people would accept these shadows quite easily, believe me. There are people, who have quite strong psyche and are not exactly afraid of their weaknesses.
Facing your Shadow (Persona 4 style) PROS: You'll turn into a stronger, better person. CONS: You may die before you turn into that stronger, better person
Does anyone else find this song to be sort of emotional. Like i feel like since it shares similar parts that never more has and the peaceful version of this song after the battle. It just makes it feel like you’re fighting this battle not to beat the enemy, but to save someone. And that’s kind of exactly what is. Sure blooming villain in persona 5 is a cool boss battle theme but this one just hits so much harder for me and that’s why I love it.
