Does Personal Branding Matter? Yes. You need to know how to build a personal brand around your body of work, and accomplishments. Your Personal Brand is Your Reputation and the storytelling surrounding you and your work.
WHAT IS PERSONAL BRANDING?
Consider your personal brand and your personal branding the stories, resources and assets you utilize to communicate your value and identity to other people. My RU-vid channel is part of my personal brand because ti demonstrates and helps me communicate my value to various people, usually to my advantage and benefit. Self Promotion isn't a bad thing when done well.

3 PERSONAL BRANDING TIPS
1. Understand that even if you work a 9 to 5 a personal brand and understanding how to build a personal brand can impact your long-term career when changing positions, getting promotions or changing companies. Your personal brand is your reputation and how you leverage it in this case.
2. Have a clear understanding of your personal brand story. Know how you introduce yourself to people in different scenarios in an interesting and easy to understand way that communicates your value to them, based on who they are.
3. Always create opportunities to increase your personal brand value. Look for situations that put you in an advantageous position or give you a unique and interesting story to tell. Case studies trump certifications because results beat paperwork for those playing for real stakes.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND
How to build a personal brand? Understand what you are selling. Are you selling your creativity? If so then you build your personal brand by building your body of work and demonstrating your creativity in formats that play to your strength. If you're a photographer this may mean videos of the behind the scenes of a photoshoot and how you work with clients and create a unique experience for them and deliver beautiful shots. These are personal branding videos that can help you identify with potential customers and stand out from your competitors.

I was going to message you privately to network, but I have to leave a comment on this piece of art.. First, I used to work in upper management in corporate america. I quit to build my own brand as an author. That was in 2013. I'm a successful entrepreneur and have been simply because of exactly what you said, "outworking peers". If you google me name my books, my quotes and my writings will come up. I've only done that by putting in work every single day regardless of results. That really resonated with me because it is the only thing that has set me apart as a five self-published author. The second thing that I loved here was you said that being a a great student doesn't necessarily correlate to begin a great employee. When I was a hiring manager I looked for two things when hiring: would I enjoy working with this person and are they willing to learn. If you're not willing to learn new strategies, new skills and new ideas then you are not valuable to my team. I follow YOU because I see us as peers, but more importantly I know that you can teach me something. Iron sharpens Iron. This leads me to my last comment. I was using this method to create videos: shoot, edit, post. Well, writing is my primary media and I couldn't create the media at the rate I wanted to with that style because I refused to take time away from my writing. You said in a video that you will block off an hour or two and record video after video. I said to myself, "this man is a genius." It's simple, yet profound, and I thank you for that. I went to California this weekend with my assistant and recored over 60 videos in a four day span. I thank you for the idea and I hope to bring the same work-ethic I have in my writing, to youtube. I've been constant for the last year, but not at the level I need to be at. I know that you're going to be a big part of my success on youtube because you already have been. Peace and love brother. -Sylvester

It irks me when companies require a degree where the major does not even have to be related to the career field. Like really? And you won't even consider the experience, or the person? Their loss.

Roberto, I think one of the hardest things to do in personal branding is to reflect honestly on your own potential liabilities. But once you do so, it really can help you gain self-confidence by framing it. How much easier will it be, how much less anxiety-producing will it be when you realize that by having your own brand, *YOU* are the one that is behind the wheel...LOVE IT!

Roberto, again, thanks for sharing these valuable points in such a clear manner. You are a great source of value for me. I have spent the last few months paying close attention to understanding what my personal brand is. And trying to fine tune that and seeing where I can provide value with it. It's a long struggle but I feel things are clearing up a bit. And you've been a big part of that.

Hmmmmmm, you've made me rethink how I think. I am going to have to sit down and rethink how I think about myself. I've never really considered that everything you talked about was my 'Brand' I have been thinking of a Brand really only as an icon or logo and what makes you recognized across multiple medias. I really didn't consider this aspect of it at all. I think I need to work on my mindset a bit. Wonderful tips and a whole new perspective on how to think!! Thanks Roberto!!!!

This is an incredibly useful video, thanks Roberto. Doesn't matter whether you are running your own business or not, because we always judge each other based on the way we present ourselves, consciously or subconsciously. Devil is in the detail as the saying goes - especially the language we use when we talk about ourselves. This is definitely something I need to think about for the coming year. Lots of great points to think on.

Yes. Personal brands last a lifetime . I regularly get clients back to my gym who havent trained with me in years because i evolve to always add value , and stay true to what I preach. recently I have a girl start to train with me again after 6 years. She used to train with her family when she was younger volleyball player in middle school, now as an adult she is back to just feel better and deal with work more efficiently.This wouldnt have happened if had changed my brand and beliefs up. Hi Roberto, thank you so much for a wonderful video. I don't have a question but I would like to briefly share my experience with trying to brand myself online. When I first started making craft videos, I used to talk and introduce the craft project- but then I quickly realized that my persona rubs people the wrong way-- so I no longer show my face and say as little as possible. I have been teaching Psychology & Sociology full-time at a Community College for over 15 years, and I have struggled with being liked online. I accept the fact that people usually don't like me right away for whatever reason, but after 20 minutes, sometimes a couple of class periods-- my students begin to like me. I have decided that I don't want people to confuse whether or not they hate the craft video or my personality.

I just started bing watching your videos because they are so awesome and relative to all of my questions and concerns I have right now. I just saw a video where you stated that you read all of your comments and answer all of your questions so here is mine: 1. I've started building a branding through blogging and now RU-vid but I don't know if it's the right niche for me. I've invested 6 months into branding my blog and IG but I think I might need to change it, is it too late. I just don't want it to happen again and start all over again. 2. Also should I have a separate IG account for my brand separate from my personal if my brand is essentially my image? Thanks so much in advance! Merry Christmas!

I can fully support the suggestion of working for free or for experience. It's a huge investment in oneself. Some supportive people stop being supportive once you leave their employment, so spread out your references as much as possible by "creating something awesome" for many, paid or not. Pay it forward.

Excellent advice. I come from a marketing background, so I've tried to keep my brand on point. Another thing I try to tell folks is not to use a name with a very specific branding (i.e. xyzGaming, xyzBeauty, xyzCallOfDutyVids, etc.) because many times you will eventually want to branch OUT of gaming, or beauty, or 4x4 maintenance, or whatever. Make your personal brand YOU, not your content.

Thanks, never thought about it like a reputation. Using that, I think I'm starting to understand why some who are "good" at branding themselves actually loose out because they are inauthentic to who they actually are. Like a single person using we and us for a business.

Hey Roberto, I've been following you and see your advice is very helpful. Is there a sight that allows someone to simply, Load works of creativity first, then figure out the rest, upon seeing the great number of different works in store? Open Source comes to mind... But You know?... the battle and Politics... it just seems that there might be something ... on another level of the willingness to stick with creativity without .... making us buy new hardware to keep up ... or getting rid of software packages, was one of the worst thing ever, for some of us. New and Faster is fine, The ability to work with both is even better. We love our old machines and software ... Do they bother to include the actual people that are using the Hardware and Software? Slow and Steady Wins the Race. The world has room for both.... In Life, there are things you can ask your Great-Grand Parents that your Parents never experienced. Wise grand children should learn all they can from their elders, because once that advice and experience is taken to heart, it can never be taken away. Same thing... with older Generations of Computers. There are thing you can do on the older computers, you'll never access or do on the newer models. Old folk called it Common Sense. So it would seem that common sense might be what's missing in the development of new technology ... common sense people see and know the difference. Not all will agree... My comments are simply "FOOD FOR THOUGHT."12212016 AllAtOneHeart Videos

do you think it's worthwhile to differentiate between "personal brand" and "personal aesthetic"? the way you use the former term is more about perceived value while i usually hear it being used to describe things like, for example, a creator having a certain distinct fashion, or structuring/designing their thumbnails, headers, website, ect. in a particular way (for example, you colour coding your videos about different topics)

I’m a hard worker, and I take pride in my work, but for the last 6 years my health continues to ruin my reputation. I’m afraid to get a job because my health issue are ruining my life, and is making me look bad. I’ve had a few good paying jobs, but the company would fire me for being admitted into the hospital for two weeks. My hard work and dedication to these employers was all for nothing. I’m really not sure what to do? I’m in so much pain, and seeking treatment did absolutely nothing, except adding more hospital bills. It has ruined my initiative to want to work for any employer because I end up being just a number to them, and easily replaceable. I feel like I’ve accomplished nothing and I’m back to square one. I’ve decided to go back to school, but what do I do if my health holds me back?

So how does branding translate to RU-vid? We recently redid our channel to target a specific audience where before it might have been harder to see who we were targeting as we had a range of different videos. We removed a lot of videos from our channel and redid all of our artwork and are really targeting a specific group of people on RU-vid and social media. I like to say we have rebranded ourselves but not sure if I am using that term correctly as to what you consider a brand.
@TrainTsarFun
@TrainTsarFun 7 лет назад
Fun With The Bugs I see what audience you are targeting. Challenge in that field is dealing with all the comment spam. So many people trying it that many just go to similar channels trying to get people to subscribe. You can tell by the generic comments.
@FunWithTheBugs
@FunWithTheBugs 7 лет назад
Train Tsar Fun When we first release a video it gets all the spam comments. If our video starts doing well the views will go up and the comments will stop. That is when wet know the video is getting out past other channels and to actual viewers.

We've been researching a lot about developing our personal brand and struggling to find what that is. We are a lesbian couple that make travel videos (vlogs at the moment but soon to include tip videos). We want to entertain people as well as inspire them to travel. We've read a lot about when developing your brand it should be unique, a niche to fill the market. I was wondering if you have any advice on whether we need to make ourselves even more unique than this, I feel if we keep narrowing down our channel it will soon become a very small window and maybe not something true to what we want to achieve. Thanks Roberto. Amy & Yas
@RobertoBlake
@RobertoBlake 7 лет назад
I would say to start with very intentional search friendly content as a focus. Think about everything that goes into just preparing to travel and how you can help people with the anxiety associated with that. You can build from that as you find what you're most comfortable with.
