Ely Cathedral is one of those places where music lifts the soul towards heaven in surroundings that are sublime. The Girl Choristers of Ely Cathedral Choir sing the carol 'Personent Hodie' by John Rutter. #ChristmasAtEly
I first knew that uplifting hymn tune when I was nine the tune was to God is Love his the care it sounded just as good with the cathedral choirs and organ
What a beautiful choir , sounds great! I visited Ely 5 years ago with singers from the Netherlands, brings back very good memories! I hope that there still are opportunities to sing nowadays, wishing you all the best!
Personent hodie voces puerulae, laudantes iucunde qui nobis est natus, summo Deo datus, et de vir, vir, vir (2x) et de virgineo ventre procreatus. In mundo nascitur, pannis involvitur praesepi ponitur stabulo brutorum, rector supernorum. Perdidit, dit, dit, (2x) perdidit spolia princeps infernorum. Magi tres venerunt, munera offerunt, parvulum inquirunt, stellulam sequendo, ipsum adorando, aurum, thus, thus, thus, (2x) aurum, thus, et myrrham ei offerendo. Omnes clericuli, pariter pueri, cantent ut angeli: advenisti mundo, laudes tibi fundo. Ideo, o, o, (2x) ideo gloria in excelsis Deo.
Aww … any church choir can sing ANY repertoire nowadays. Besides, the tune is medieval and predates all of the reformations. I like Rutter’s arrangement, though.
