The Persusions were my musical therapy when I was in College. There Melodic Voices and Harmony was cure for all my undergraduate studies. Was fortunate to grace the stage with them.Greatest musical experience in my life.
thank you God for letting be born in such a powerful soulful time..this is epic...love love love...the Temptations of alcappello. rip beautiful talented soulful Black Kings..this makes me proud to be BLACK.
I lived in Brooklyn for 11 years in the 80s-90s. The Persuasions used to rehearse in a dance studio on 7th Avenue. The whole neighborhood would stand on the sidewalk below the studio listening all night. What joy!
They were truly the godfathers of accapella, thank you all for the joy to hear and talk to you guys in person @ several concerts over the years. 🎤🎶🙏👏❤️
Lead singer Jerry Lawson, my husband, left The Persuasions after 40 years and 22 albums. Then he was with another group briefly. You should hear the bass man Rayfield Ragler, on the only album they made together. "Jerry Lawson & Talk of the Town" They even do a tribute to The Persuasions in a medley. But listen to Rayfield on the song New Burying Ground. To learn more: www.jerrylawson.biz. and www.thepersuasions.org
always wanted to see them in person, but i guess this will do,they were a one of a kind group, that will never be topped in my heart thank you for letting us see and hear them
No vocal group was ever better than The Persuasions. This is absolutely fantastic, but I have a far worse audio only copy of this show and there is one last song missing on this vid. It was Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight for which the guys had the audience join them on stage to sing the song. There is a color copy of a portion of this show also up on RU-vid----my kingdom for a color version of this show in its' entirety!
Newburyport Troubador. Yes. Just Jerry Lawson and Jayotis left. Will miss them with all my heart. Never again to see them enjoying the music and bringing us the A Cappella. Lay down and take your rest. We ALL loved you Only you did it the best ❤️😎
love this one ,see what you done to my only son while he was fighting in your war.it has a personal meaning to me and a lot of others, He was my brother ,and when he came back from the war, he had changed forever. He died in 2002, I sure do miss him.
We Come to Play Street Corner Symphony, Larry Alston the Lead,Jimmy Hayes who I feel has the greatest Bass voice ever were very special. Voices sound like instruments.

I wish that this was identified by the program title "Caught In The Act" featuring The Persuasions. I saw it when it originally aired on my local PBS station in 1974. Audio recorded it too on cassette. There were no ads to bother the program. My family didn't have a color TV then either. I just wished the station had superimposed the song's titles and composers. Years later, I found some of their albums. Finding their 45s as possible was not easy. "Papa Oom Mow Mow" was the first "new" 45 that I found, on Elecktra Records.
If you enjoy lead singer, arranger & producer of The Persuasions, Jerry Lawson is still at it with lots of products and more to be made available at his website. jerrylawson.biz
Can someone tell us the date of this? OMG, I saw Jerry & the boys twice in nightclubs (Cellar Door & Adams) in DC in the early 80s. In those days, halfway thru the 2nd set, they used to invite people from the audience to come on stage and sing with'em. There'd be these small circles of fans, clustered around each mic, and they'd pass the mics around each circle and WE WOULD WAIL, onstage, with the Persuasions -- the BEST acapella-soul band EVER!
This was aired on New Jersey Public Television sometime in the mid-70s. I personally attended many Persuasions concerts in Philadelphia in the late 60s and early 70s, and actually had dinner with them at the home of Carl Tancredi. I wish I had noted a more exact date of the telecast. Sorry.
I partyed with them sang with them many times in DC after the shows that they would do here and they will come back to my friend cookies house and we would party all night
