This short video is in response to RU-vidr "@watransprobservations" who requested to see some buses I interacted in in my earlier days. Most of the footage dates from the late 1960s to 1970s, about 10 or so years before I actually joined the MTT/Transperth. There is one clip from 2007 of the exit from the Roe St Bus Lane where buses did U turns across the Railway Tracks. Most of the film has trains as the primary focus, with buses "photobombing" the shoot, for which I am now quite grateful. Once again, my thanks to www.purple-pla... for their music which they kindly license for use if accompanied by recognition here in the video's description.

Any else agree that the old entertainment centre was way nicer to look at than the blue lego we have across the road now?

Nice one! I remember the old Welly St Bus Station when I first moved over here in 95 and the Ent Cent. Perth has changes so much since then.

Thanks Terry. I remember many a Friday and Saturday night running to the bus station from Canterbury Court or the Embassy to get the last 255 back to Innaloo

Interesting to watch as someone born 3-4 decades after most of the footage was shot

747 at Gosnells Depot in the 80's had the exterior painted to show the internal frames and underskin body components, when it was new it looked awesome driving about with that on it. They used to refer to it as "Boeing" given the number.

Great memories Terry thanks for sharing. Also I'm sorry being one of the teenagers in the 80's flicking the stop button repeatedly :) I remember having "Jimmy" the bus driver at times too.

At the time of Jimmy, I was driving the Willagee buses, and always got an old bus. My passengers called me "Larry in his Leyland!"

Yes I remember the Wellington Bus station doing a 906 to and from Fremantle train replacement great memories. Also fantastic spot for Bus spotting and watch buses going about their business

The 760/766 bus NEVER went through the old Wellington Street bus station. They travelled directly along Wellington Street

Wow, thanks. You are correct. (I drove them myself.) At 01:52 in my video is an artic loading off A road, which my failing memory assumed was a Freo service. Someone may be able to enlighten us what route it was probably doing. (Perhaps a peak hour "double bank" on the 760 route, for I believe they were only utilized on the rail replacements initially) One of Perth's bus Gurus may be able to enlighten us, please leave a comment. (Colin Davidson or Ian Kerr-any thoughts?)

Bus at 1:04 must of been taken in 1977 as the unfinished telephone exchange is in the background.

Unfortunately, I don't have much. I have a few random photos of the Causeway Depot, some from the CAT depot, and some pictures of the Malaga Depot. I'll have a look at them, and see if I can link them into a video story. I have another project under way at the moment, so it might take a bit of time.

I MISS THE OLD RENAULT ARTIC #747
@terrymercer2379
@terrymercer2379 8 месяцев назад
747 and I have history. I was driving her on Leach Highway on my way to Rockingham for a charter. As I started to brake for the traffic lights at Bull Creek Drive, she gave an almighty great shudder as she changed down, and the motor stalled at about 20 kph. I coasted to a stop, selected neutral and did a restart. As soon as I put it into gear, she stalled. She had seized her gear box, leaving the drive train to the back wheels lying on the road 200 meters behind me in the process. I got towed home, a terrifying experience being dragged 5 meters behind a tow truck, using my mirror to see the white line on my lane to keep straight! At least I had power steering with the motor going.

@ygyzys
@ygyzys 8 месяцев назад
The Mercedes Artics had a single drive axle, the rear. As you say the Renaults had two. There were also a few MAN Artics with a single drive axle, the centre, and the rear wheels steered. They were introduced to drive over the Horse shoe bridge.
