After an hour of searching the barrio of Rímac for something to eat, I finally found a restaurant that could serve me some good local food from Lima!
No Anticuchos though!
Does Peru live up to it's gastronomic hype?
I thought I would go have a look and take you guys with me to find out.
Enjoy!

It’s the only way, I disagree with 20% tips in the USA, but over there I’d pay 30%+ because they ACTUALLY need it baddd here waiters make bank I don’t feel bad for them. 😂 that’s why I only tip 10% food already overpriced + high taxes.

Stop! Don’t have so much poverty like that here, it is not like most of people are in poverty and even if it is not like miserble way, at least they have houses and in USA,the really pooor people don’t have, There is more homeless than all in South American and many of them is because they work but can’t pay rent. You have to go outside the bubble and find out that all countries and continents have poverty and levels of her too. Try to find the slms in Europe, Africa, Asia, ME and you will be shocked. Hi Kurt, I'll tell you a bit about the latin american spanish (from Mexico to Argentina) The word POCO, is interpreted in latin america as "some" and in some cases "a lot", however UN POQUITO, is interpreted as "a little" Example: The lady asked: Quiere un POCO de arroz? and she served you a normal serve. When you asked for just a little bit of ceviche, you should have said UN POQUITO de ceviche. Also when it comes to food serves, if you want half only, it is best to use the word MITAD. Your spanish is very good by the way. Cheers and good travels.

@@XplayPictures Normal tourist places are not dangerous in Peru, although pickpocketing may happen as well as getting your phone snatched out of your hands. In non tourist areas I've had friends mobbed by groups of robbers, threatened with knifes or guns, and have seen many news reports where people get stabbed or shot when they were being robbed of their phone or some small amount of cash. Quick kidnappings are also common where a person is ambushed by in a 'micro' or 'collectivo' and taken to an ATM to empty their accounts. Also my parents were once almost kidnapped by people pretending to be the police but the neighbors came out en masse and saved them. During Christmas time car robberies are also very common near my house where about three per month would happen on my block (before pandemic): a car full of armed thugs would pull up just as someone is parking and take the car. I've also had to hide behind trees as whole groups of people just hanging out in a park were robbed at gun point by thugs.

If you end up in a poor area, be willing to pay someone to get you out of there again and get the kids something. Keep in mind that also a lot of people won't hesitate if they find a chance to make an extra dollar on you, it's a bit part of the game. In this video, the taxi driver asked one sol, giving ten is just too much: just give three to five max for a normal ride. Chico! I think it's awesome how you really put yourself out there and explore. But dear lord, slow down a bit and let the locals talk to you. That poor man outside the restaurant was trying to tell you so much and you wouldn't let him speak. Lol. He kept saying, escuchame, escuchame and you were so hyper you talked right over him. If it makes you feel better, his Spanish is not that great to be honest. He makes a lot of grammar mistakes all the time and his sentences are very broken. Just to give you an idea of how he actually sounds in Spanish, it's as if somebody in English wanted to ask you "Do you know where I can get some food around here?" but the question came out as "You know food for me here where?". Just in case, of course we as Spanish speakers can pick up what he means in the same way you guys could understand what a foreigner means even if their English is broken but the point is that his Spanish is not that good. I think it's just a matter of attitude: just lose the fear to try a different language and not being afraid to make mistakes!

When I was little, I used to know that area by heart. The place where your video started, during the night, this Afro-Peruvian lady used to come out with her cart and chairs around 7 pm to sell Anticucho and other delicacy. Them hearts were as fresh as it could get. Really lowkey spot. Then head out to Chabuca Granda, which is a park on top of a avenue, about 4 blocks long. That spot was known to have good sweets, such as picarones, alfajores, suspiros, etc. close to that area was this guy who sold amazing fresh popcorn. You could choose how you wanted to be made. I returned to Peru after 12 years, and it has changed. It’s less traditional, more commercial. The lady sadly passed away, some streets were demolished, some of the locals grew out the area and so did I. That was back in 2005, and I returned in 2020. And yes, gringo, there’s crime, so be careful!

Now, about the food... Man up! lol! If you want to give it a shot, you have to take more than one tiny bite, come on! And try the entire plate, not a corner of it - it is supposed to go all together. If you only taste the fish, it´s like going to a concert just to hear the drums.
