One of the sanest minds in Pakistan right now. Had the privilege of interviewing him for my university magazine back in 2014.

Can someone with Hoodbhoy's clarity and critique live in Pakistan? Does he have bodyguards? No doubt it is people like him who can make Pakistan great. But, truth has no place in Pakistani society. Only religion does.

Dear Prof - I am from India and watch your programs. I have greatest respect for you as an Academician, intellectual, independent speaker and not a mouth piece of any politician, army, ISI or worst still mullahs. I also clarify I do not belong to or support any political party in India and disagree Prof with your statement that india's secular status is getting eroded with the advent of Modi and the nation is moving towards Hindutva. I say although there are some rabid elements of that nature. Such elements raise their heads from time to time more as a reactive phenomena to the actions of a certain community. This is a counter action and not Hindutva oriented. An average Indian, unlike perhaps an average Pakistani, is very less inclined by the religion to guide his political, feelings and religion is regarded as personal. Yes they visit temples and pray for their welfare. There is hardly any influence of religion in the governance of the state. I strongly deny with your statement that Sikhs or other minorities are feeling uncomfortable,with Modi. You can not also say this on the basis of ongoing farmers agitation predominantly from Punjab and few Khalistani elemts from Canada. Our minorities enjoy equal liberty in everything and I repeat everything. There is no religious discrimination, no denial of jobs, promotions, seats in colleges, in armed forces, judiciary, Health sector just to name a few. There are 300,00 masjids according my knowledge in india and our muslim brothers choke the roads and pray with loud speakers, Perform their festivals en-mass not 'chup chup key' and also be aggressive sometimes violently for wrong causes. There is appeasement by the government for the sake of votes. Can such freedom exists for minorities in Pakistan? I see people praying in temples in Karachi but can they be aggressive on muslim community there .? Ours is a multiethnic society so there is always some simmering going on. In a family there may be fights that does not mean all families in India are fighting and deduce that family life in India is bad. Prof you are a busy man and I wonder you will ever see this comment from an ordinary Indian and even acknowledge, but it is enough if you correct your view pertaining to the comment I referred. Lastly every body wakes up from slumber in your meet when they hear something not nice said about Modi. Reiterating I am not a fan of any political party or a politician I refer to a recent survey results released a few days ago. Modi's popularity across the country including from non BJP ruled states, the rating was a high 63% and none of the reasons can be attributed to Hindutva. They were mostly the way he handled various issues. There was a high approval from muslim community as well. With respects.

Dr. Pervez, In my opinion being Karachi-wala, every thing was fine upto the 1980 and few years more. There was tolerance in Society, even Muslims are much in number and no sectarianism was known to general public. Intellectuals are equally responsible for this anarchism, who did not raised voice against such stupidity. May now onwards after 2 or 3 decades, we see a prosperous country, having respect each other without prejudice of caste, creed, section and religion. Last but not least, intellectuals and opinion makers (Media i.e. print/electronic) be prioritised literacy for humanity not education & degrees for jobs. And introduced Sibt-e-Hassan like Scholars to young brains.

Mr. Hood was just a good science teacher no doubt ,but then he over estimated his worth & thought he should try in other fields like economics, politics history philosophy and what not. In an effort to become jack of all trades &master if non he lost his honour &respect even in the field of science ,which he had earned by sticking to his single speciality for some years...as they say pride hath a fall. He forgot that there are hundreds of science teachers more capable than him in Pakistan . My dear fellow Pakistanis, in my humble opinion, Dr. Hoodbhoy is one the most brilliant individuals anywhere in the world. It is a shame that Pakistan throughout its history has always failed to recognize the genuine people, who could be productive and conducive to the development of our beloved country. In fact, I could write a chapter on his competency and sincere convictions for Pakistan. As he is suggesting, our education system is terrible, and because of this, the illiteracy and Jahalat are prevailing all over the country. Moreover, this is one of the main reasons that in spite of the great looking people in the country, we are precluded from being competitive and respectable part of the world. I strongly suggest and urge Mr.Imran Khan to please consider appointing him as the Education Minister. Let's not miss this opportunity to bring him aboard in your team. Under his leadership, the outdated curricula of all academic institutions will revive and he will attract all our best well-trained over-sea Pakistani professionals back to our beloved land to replace rusted Bristish- trained incompetent teachers and professors. there are some issue which are very simple t implement. 1) Allow industry to make any kind of vaccinations/ medicines without any license 2) tax anybody with house made on any land greater than 500 yards. let them prove that they have less income 3) stop all food E XPORTS from pakistan 4) Disallow Aarhat system in agricultural products

The only place where audience spoke was when hoodbhoy said India is also becoming (supposedly) fanatic. How happy Pakistanis become when they hear and talk about problems in India. I think, seeing problems in India help Pakistani have some solace, and count it as a reason to justify the creation of Pakistan. BTW Mr. Hoodbhoy, I am a keen observer of Pakistan affairs. Asia Bibi and killing of Punjab Governer and then. Multitude of lawyers supporting the killer gaurd and people going to his mazzar _ these type of incidents (many more to count) are never done by Hindus in India or anywhere in the world.
