It's not just Slowpoke, but Magikarp are also (attempted) to be eaten. Then even in Legends, we see that some entries refer to them being used for clothing. (Bibarrel)
I played peta games as a kid.... it was scarring They're indeed intended for kids, children play this. It wasn't even links when I played, there where just random animal gore videos popping up while playing. In the middle of the games, most often as "rewards" Children don't understand the supposed message, they just get traumatised. No, I'm not vegetarian.
I randomly found the 1st one while I was at my verbally abusive dad's house 5+ years ago and I'm glad other people were upset about this. I'm also glad that I'm not alone in this stupid boat
I think PETA just want to piss people off/trigger them to "go vegan" and what not, but also even tho we can survive on only plants, humans are omnivores, and we are healthier in general if we eat meat and fruits/veggies
In Pokémon lore pokeballs not only are comfy, but pokemon WANT to fight with trainers as it is proven it makes them stronger. Soooooo, peta has no idea about Pokémon lore.
Pokemon show up in the wild BECAUSE they want to fight a trainer and test if they can become strong, Pokemon (at least those living nearby human society) actively seek trainers thay can handle them to make them stornger and evolve It's literally Darwinian Evolution in steroids lmao Pokemon can also leave the Pokeball at any time, and msot of them are storng enough to defend themsleves if they are being absued by the trainers
@@cursed-cat9126 And mega evolution only occurs due to really strong bonds between the pokemon and the trainer, meaning the pokemon and the trainer work together, fighting because they actually want to. PETA is so stupid.
I feel like the only reason they fight is to keep their world safe from anything that tries to destroy it. If you didn’t train the Pokemon the Pokemon Earth would be destroyed so :/
“Would Pokemon still love us if they knew what we do to animals?” as if our pets don’t stand under the table and stare into our souls, demanding meat scraps.
The problem with veganism is eating animals is part of nature. You can't claim to have a moral argument if you can only uphold it because you live a privileged life where you aren't a caveman eating any scraps of food you can find.
I think it's great that peta likes team plasma, because they literally just want a pokemon monopoly so they can abuse the pokemon and rule unova. (Oversimplified but the basic plot)
Tbh i think they see themselves as the good team plasma N formed in B2W2 given that Ghetsis is a villain in these "parodies". Basically they saw team plasma in the first black/white, maybe thought "are we the baddies?", then saw neo team plasma and thought that absolved them of all sin.
"What would people do if they got their hands on a real life Pokemon?" Die. We'd just die. 90% of Pokemon would just kill us by existing near us. Hell, most max-tier evolutions, legendaries and mythicals could just delete us because
fun fact: Those videos peta links as "prizes" weren't always age restricted! I was 7, and there was absolutely no warning on the video at the time, I had nightmares for weeks. Still not vegan tho
Shit is going to happen. You can't stop it. Different countries have different levels or morality as well as different laws on animal welfare. We can't be responsible for another countries laws. The UK tried that with its empire, many people starved to death or were sacrificed.
Actually, Pokemon get eaten all the time, though I think Nintendo is specfically trying to move away from that image, but i distinctly remember a prepared magikarp sushi dish.
Remember the moment where their "Starters" (Smogon and Ekans) evolved? They *cried* of joy. And their Pokemons were happy, too. PETA really doesn't know anything about what happens in the games or anime. Bruh.
I find it hilarious how Team Plasma are the good guys in both "games" as Plasma is most likely a jab at PETA as both act pretty much the exact same, both take creatures from humans and say they are "saving them" then proceed to abuse and/or kill said creatures they took
I love how theyre like "in the pokemon world, the pokemon are abused and tortured and killed" like theres supposed to be some relation to real life animals, but the problem is.... the pokemon in the pokemon are completely fine first of all and second of all if anyone had to worry about death it would be the humans. Because if the pokemon just decided to end humanity they could easily.
And also pokemon WANT to fight to prove that they are strong and not even that, the whole z move and mega evolution thing is that the trainer and the pokemon need a strong bond to use them
Actually "Team Plasma" is from Pokémon Black & White. They parade around as a Pokémon activist group (think the in-universe version of PETA), but as you dig into their HQ near the end of the game you find out their leader Ghetsis (who wears a coat implied to be made out of the Pokémon that "failed him", for reference) is basically trying to take over the world is basically PokéHitler. The fact PETA painted them as the good guys shows how little they know about their source material.
oh no, they know, peta!ghetsis outright spoils the twist before his fight. though n splits off from ghetsis along with the half of team plasma that actually thought they were an animal rights group, and so n's side (the ones who dress like in bw 1) is an actual pokémon rights group, while ghetsis's faction drops all pretenses and just do the terrorism stuff.
I remember that these Pokémon rip offs scarred me as a child. I was playing pokemon vs McDonald’s I believe on my old computer and when you win a battle, you get a chest. If you click on it, you get a peta video about slaughtering. It horrified me so much, I screamed, cried, and ran to my dad. And he told me to never support these people. So I don’t. Fuck peta!
i actually played black and blue as a kid, and the message flew right over my head. i enjoyed playing it just fine, and honestly i partially blame it for my gore fascination (alongside invader zim). i am not vegetarian, and i still love eating meat. one thing i can't stop laughing over is that team plasma is literally the pokemon universe equivalent of peta, and GHETSIS IS A HIGH RANKING MEMBER OF TEAM PLASMA.
That's one thing peta did get right was that people in pokemon they actually do eat pokemon, even James was thinking about cooking up his magikarp in the earlier anime, one example I know is how slowpoke tails were one of the foods in the game
@@trueiswrong yeah people just take offense so easily that they feel it necessary to just crap on anything people enjoy and trying to push their own beliefs onto it
actually slowpokes regenerate their tails and feel no pain in them so the first mention of pokemon being eaten did not even require to injure the pokemon
@@ashadeofblue6815 On top of that, the whole scenario was first presented to the player in Pokemon gold and silver as a BAD thing. Team rocket went to the slowpoke well to cut off as many slowpoke tails as they could to sell them for a high price and finance their schemes. Basically the whole theme of slowpoke tails is animal exploitation and cruelty for money, which reflects reality and helps in making the player grow more sympathetic towards Pokemon
Pokemon are like irl animals and will hunt other pokemon for food.the trainers who catch pokemon are actually doing them a big favor because the wild can be filled with alot of dreadful stuff and most if not all trainers treat thier pokemon with respect and kindness
@@potatojohnny3898 yeah even in the magikarp mobile game it's obvious because if the magikarp jumps too high it gets snatched by a pidgey and then thr trainer walks back alone looking sad
The most unintentionally funny part about this game is that some of the footage of cows being 'tortured' is actually footage of people giving the cows medical care.
Sounds like this group wouldn't realize that Arceus destroyed the humans that actually did animal abuse (citation required, current citation unreliable)
@@daiymohermitaurenjoyer9160 sheep wool shearing is needed so that they dont have to carry to much weight and if not done for a long time it will cause some damage to the sheep skin when sheered Hope that helps
I think it’s so funny that it’s Team Plasma in this game because that’s literally just the Pokémon version of PETA within the Pokémon universe, and they’re an *evil team.*
They DO eat pokemon, in one episode of the original series of pokemon, professor oak is caught eating someone's krabby, pretty much any other times are pokedex entries talking about kids eating applins and appletuns.
also there's a book (in Platinum I think) where they talk about eating fish pokemon and throwing their bones back into the water, making them LITERALLY GET REBORN?!?
@@jordon8658 that’s actually what they’re going for. They think that the bigger the reaction, the more people are on their side. Especially with kids, who are more impressionable and more likely to join their side than adults. Many people agree with their points, but then decide not to ever do anything PETA says out of spite towards their tone-deafness and lack of basic decency. Nobody wants to be on the same side as PETA. They all suck.
What the actual hell. Who ever thought this was a good idea like wtf. No one wants to see that. I can't exactly be considered a child anymore but I'm pretty sure that would leave me traumatized for life no matter my age. That must be horrifying. I hope Peta get sued or something because of all the traumatized children who require therapy after seeing that.
PETA: "Pokemon encourages animal abuse" Literally any pokemon that evolves through any kind of friendship, or any other stats that need caring and love of a trainer: *distant laughing*
Masuda: “It sure would be interesting if Pokéballs existed in real life, and we haven’t imagined that. But, in terms of what’s inside of the Pokéball, it’s a space that’s incredibly comfortable for Pokémon.”
I was so insulted when I fought Ash, that I just let him beat my Pokémon because he deserves better. Then PETA took notice of this and froze my game before my last Pokémon died.
No, I still had some health left and I had plenty of moves as well. The game just didn’t let me click anything. And no it didn’t crash because I reloaded, played through it, started letting Ash kick me in the teeth, and it did it again.
I played black/blue when I was 10 and I've always had a really bad fear of blood. It was nightmare fuel and I didn't touch the computer for days, spending most of the time playing Soul Silver on the ds. Shocking kids doesn't exactly work, you'll just get them to hate the specific content and, later in life, to dislike its producer. Edit: right, I almost forgot. My diet includes little to no vegetables because I litterally can't bring myself to eat the majority of them, with the only exeptions being uncooked carrots and fennels, and omelette with spinach or zucchini. I will get sick if I eat anything else, last time I tried I vomited, so going vegan for me is unfeasible.
For those who don't know before youtube didn't required you to really verify being over 18(and it was not as current as now) on RU-vid and there was less trigger warning so basically around 2010 PETA just traumatised a bunch of kids
Actually, humans eating pokemon is a very common topic in the Pokémon franchise even some Pokédex entries talk about how good some Pokémon taste, also in sword and shield you can cook food and some of the food you can make include slowpoke tails, and krabbys and kinglers.
And even then, frequently in the show and in sword and shield, we can frequently see all humans just eat non meat foods. Such as eggs or stew. So really, Peta kinda just smacked themselves in the face.
When I was a kid, I always assumed in the pokemon world that there would be non-pokemon type animals for the humans to eat, even if they did ocassionly eat pokemon ( in accordance to the pokedex entries i.e slowpoke tails, magikarp, farfetche'd to name a few). But as an adult with my understanding of the animal kingdom, of course it makes sense that pokemon would be a food source in many places and not just for the humans in the world either, but other pokemon. Though I still do hold onto the belief that there are non-pokemon animals in the world, but that's just a personal head canon now. lol.
I mentioned this game to my mom and told her about the game linking to the video of animals just being abused, and she said something that actually made me think: kids who are raised with abusive parents are more likely to be abusive themselves to their partner or children, as kids mimic those around them. By showing this video, kids may be inclined to mimic these behaviors. Peta is literally (unintentionally?) raising the next generation of animal abusers
Also, call me unempathetic, but I don't see the problem. Sheep are barely an intelligence level above plants, cows don't feel pain and chickens are assholes. I don't see any reason to dedicate effort to prevent animal cruelty as opposed to illnesses, child abuse, the climate crisis, aging, there's just so many more important things
@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 Um yeah I do see problem with what you say, but I will agree that addressing the meat industry isn’t the main priority right now imo (though addressing climate change would also be addressing the meat industry since a lot of carbon that ends up in the atmosphere is because of deforestation for more land to raise cattle and cows release emissions themselves). However, just because we don’t see animals as intelligent or we see them as mean doesn’t mean we should inflict harsh conditions on them (see the history of wolves in Yellowstone), and pain is only a natural way to keep things alive. I, someone who eats meat and uses animal products and goes to zoos, believes that the meat industry and animal rights in general do need to change, I just find it disgusting that peta is the main voice in this, which ends up silencing the genuine people who actually care. I think it’s fine if people eat animals but the way we go about it currently is not the best.
@@thecatarmy3485 I assure you, there is no evidence cows feels pain, just as there is no evidence plants feel pain. And sheep are so dumb, they cannot muster the creativity to walk around a roadblock. My dad went camping and the sheep that went through that area each day would just stop at the tent, not move, then head back with their flock. Due to this, those sheep just didn't eat for multiple days. Is that a creature that's wrong to exploit? Really?
@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 I I believe that sheep can be smart and won’t literally starve themselves to death because if that was the case they wouldn’t exist. At my local zoo, in their petting zoo section there are “rest areas” for the animals where visitors cannot go. After Covid, the sheep likely figured out that being bothered by a bunch of kids wasn’t worth it so they would stay in their rest areas unless the petting zoo was near empty, which is when they would roam. Cows likely have a higher pain tolerance than people in order to survive, but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel pain at all. They still flick away horseflies from their rumps with their tails without even seeing them, meaning they had to have felt something in order to know to get rid of it. Even if they couldn’t feel pain, that wouldn’t excuse making them stand on top of each other in their own feces their whole lives until death, and again, I eat meat all the time. This conversation isn’t going to get anywhere though, so a reply is only going to lead in circles. This discussion is off topic from my original comment about the effects of kids seeing animal abuse, and seeing as you pointed out you knew your opinion would be controversial I think you’re only looking for an argument. At the end of the day, you’re still going to see me as a goofy animal lover whose been fed lies and I’m still going to see you as someone who thinks animals are open to abuse because of them being “lesser”.
Out of all things, I wanna nitpick Jigglypuff's design in these games because I know nobody else is gonna talk about it. There's a bleeding bite mark. ON THEIR HAIR. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think hair has blood a in it. And I'm also pretty sure that the teeth would just go through the hair without leaving a mark because hair is so thin that it's nearly impossible to hit as hard as a bite. Is Jigglypuff's hair actually hair? Or is it an extra arm or something?
@@fencecreature No, pokemon get eaten. Some pokemon the dex referred to as tasty and you even can include pokemon body parts in the curry in sword and shield (kingler and slowpoke being 2 in the curry dex I can think of).
@@testerwulf3357 I'm pretty sure most of those entries are talking about by-products, like an applun's apple (the worm is the only part that's a Pokemon), or juice that's been fermented in a shuckle's holes.
I mean Slowpoke Tails are a delicacy throughout the world of pokemon, but since Slowpokes are like lizards they just grow their tail back, plus it doesn't harm them in anyway as they never notice, but also literally, pokemon kill other pokemon like actual real life predators and pray, so Peta needs to do more research
I look at Pokémon battles as either boxing, martial arts, or wrestling except with elemental magic. Pokémon are shown to actually enjoy battling each other and after they faint they’re trainers immediately care for them afterwards. Whenever my Pokémon lost a sliver of HP I’d either immediately use potions or run all the way to the nearest Pokémon center.
I'll be honest, the whole idea of pokemon being captured at forced into dog fighting as a sport is kinda messed up. Though pokemon are able to literally disobey you if you pissed them off.
Pokémon aren’t exclusively used for battling one another. They can be used as either pets or companions, in beauty contests, or can assist us in construction, transportation, agriculture, medicine, etc.
if real world terms were being looked at then competitive pokemon players would be scum since they do mass selective breeding, dog fights and forced competitions for unconsenting animals. but thats the thing, its not real world, its fiction. if the same logic peta does for pokemon was used then all first person shooter companies and their players are war supporters who are into genocide even though thats pure nonsense. hence why we need to learn the distinction between reality and fiction.
@@anafu-sankanashi8933 it's not really forced because what's really stopping the Pokemon from getting out of there pokeballs, killing/knocking out there trainers and running away in order to blend in with other wild pokemon?
Magikarp is actually shown to be pretty bad eating. Mostly big heavy bones and thick, hard scales without much meat or fat. Krabby, however, is quite edible as are many others.

I don't know what to think about this, Peta's just making a big bunch of bullcrap with all that anti-animal abuse games in my opinion
I remember playing twisted cooking mana on Y8 and I thought it's just s parody made by some dude on the internet. I dont even what the vegan is back then
I'm glad I never played these when I was a kid! Mostly because my tablet just couldn't give me out an English PETA site, basing on request in russian. But when I first saw PETA's Cooking mama speedrun in internet (searched for a normal cooking mama speedrun), I thought it was a crappy horror makeover.
PETA: grrrr pokemon is animal abuse!!! also pokemon: added a bonding feature that gives you bonus effects while battling the higher the friendship you have with the Pokémon, and has a move called “return”, which does more power according to the amount of friendship you have with the Pokémon using it. Ironic how peta relised that game in the gen 5 era Gen 5 the game in Wich an evil team tries to convince everyone that pokemon don't want to be captured but not because they care about them but because they want to be the only one how Owen pokemon so they can rule over the world Just like peta wants people to believe them even tho they kill 90% of the Animals they "rescue" and just like team plasma(yup the same name has the devs lmao this proofs they didn't even played the game) why do they do that? Money power and fame
I won't be surprised if they got inspiration from PETA to make team plasma or that PETA thought that Nintendo was mocking/parodying them with team plasma
So did peta forget that wild Pokémon do things like this?: “It sucks bodily fluids out of its prey. The leftover meat sinks to the seafloor, where it becomes food for other Pokémon.” And: “It enwraps its prey in its hairlike arms. It sings joyfully as it observes the suffering of its prey.”
Many people seem to think that without humans, nature would be some kind of paradise, with every creature living happily and without suffering. I guess they just didn't pay attention in their biology classes, otherwise they would know what terrible things organisms can do to survive or gain some sort of advantage.
4:24 Fun fact: In the anime you’ll actually occasionally see the characters eating fried magicarp so by technical definition it would be true but it’s obviously way over exaggerated lol

I own farm animals, and let me just say, they are tasty, and unlike PETA, we don't brutally murder them, well we do kill them, but in the most painless way possible, it disturbs us as much as it disturbs others seeing animals in pain, so it helps to just know how to peacefully kill them, so they have there most peaceful life away from fear, and full of joy all the way to the end. we aren't savages hunting for food as it's our only choice of survival.
Exactly. We breed sheep, some we will sell away fat for meat but majority of the ones that are strong get kept for wool and breeding. They live excellent lives here with potentially thousands being spent on medicines needed even if they only have a 50/50 chance. Same with horses, when it's time to put them down whether it's from illness or whatever, the vet comes out and gives them the jab to put them to sleep. They don't get shot point blank in the head. Everything is done as humanely as possible.
But peacefully killing animals is a bit of a double edge sword you can’t use anything like drugs because that would get into the meat so the question is how do you do it?

4:30 Yeah, actually, "Its body is covered in sweet nectar, and the skin on its back is especially yummy. Children used to have it as a snack." -Shield pokedex entry for Appletun.
11:45 also the pokeballs canonically are suited for the pokemon that lives in them (so like a Snorlax might have a field with easy to access food and a comfy spot to lay down)
Some Pokémon are eaten. Slowpoke tails are a good example. There's even a cooking ingredient in Sword and Shield that is, again, a Slowpoke's tail. However, the Slowpoke hardly ever notices and they grow back fast. According to one of the handbooks, "If a Slowpoke's tail breaks off as it goes about its business, it probably won't even notice, and a new one will grow in quickly. The discarded tail can be dried for use in cooking." Some of Basculin's dex entries state that they used to be commonly eaten, and Sword and Shield's entries even state that they taste different depending on if they're a red-striped or blue-striped Basculin. Red-striped Basculin's Shield entry states, "In the past, it often appeared on the dinner table. The meat of red-striped Basculin is on the fatty side, and it's a lot more popular with the youth." Blue-striped Basculin's Sword entry states, "Blue-striped Basculin used to be a common food source. They apparently have an inoffensive, light flavor." Alcremie's Sword entry hints that it may use some of its body in food it gives to people it likes, saying, "When it trusts a Trainer, I will treat them to berries it's decorated with cream." I say hinted because it's never outwardly stated that it uses cream from its own body, but it's likely the case. Appletun's Shield entry mentions that children used to eat the skin on its back. However, it never states whether or not this harms the Appletun, so take that how you will. There are a lot more examples, but those are some key ones that are talked about a lot in the Pokédexes of the games they appear in.
I remember playing these when I was a kid and being angry at these games. How dare they ruin the wholesomeness of Pokemon! Also yes, some Pokemon are eaten in the canon, like a Magikarp. But they treat if the same way as eating animals in the real world. Pretty much every Pokemon will eat another Pokemon in their lives. They're all omnivores.
10:37 It sounds like that one AU where everything went *really* not according to plan. (Like, you know... AU where the plot of a lighthearted project took a sinister or horror twist. For example, a character died or a nuke went off causing an apocalypse)
We also can't forget about that one episode in the original season where Ash was freezing alive and had them all in their balls to protect them... and they VOLUNTARILY come out of their balls and group hug, running the risk of every single one of them dying. Yeah... totally can't get along. Also, we're talking about a series where you have a monster ghost that kidnaps children... maybe should be more focused on that than the idea of MONSTERS fighting each other. Don't see PETA going after the Godzilla franchise, nor will they ever because "Oh, well that's unrealistic"... so is Pokemon. When have you ever seen something made out of literal fire, or a phoenix, or a giant stone dragon?
"it teaches you to love and respect all pokemon" yeah ok bud tell that to the ditto in the daycare ngl he might be having either his best or his worst life in there
I Honestly don’t think ditto has any brains And I’m pretty sure Pokémon are happy mating with either their own species or a ditto because I’m not sure if they can tell the difference
There are only 2 pokemon moves that i can think of regarding love/hate in pokemon. Those being return and frustration. Return does more damage the more your pokemon loves you Frustration does more damage the more you pokemon hates you
I remember Pokémon Black and Blue, I didn’t play it as a kid but I knew about it and thought it was made by some edgelords. Then I found out recently it was made by FRICKING PETA??? LMAOO
I've always assumed that in the Pokemon world, Humans along with the meat eating Pokemon kill and eat non-sentient animals that never appear onscreen as the show is about Pokemon and Humans, not the non-sentient normal animals. Therefore, these PETA games are completely inaccurate in my mind.
They used to have real animals in the old episodes of the anime since they only had the first 151 to go with. They changed it later to only include humans and Pokémon exclusively. Of course, though, this is only the anime canon.
There is so much about these Pokémon games that show that PETA doesn’t know jack shit about Pokémon First is the move Return,Return increases in power when the Pokémon that uses it has a higher happiness Second is that,in newer games Pokémon do stuff to make their trainers proud because of their great bond, such as higher critical hit ratios, removing crippling status conditions, dodging attacks and surviving on low health Finally, some Pokémon evolve by friendship,Pichu to Pikachu,Riolu to Lucario,Eevee to Espeon,Umbreon and Sylveon,Golbat to Crobat and more
The newer games only push the "be nice to your Pokémon" message even harder with the affection mechanic and pokemon amie and even the older games had Return as one of the best attacks in the game which is powered by how much your Pokémon likes you while Frustration which is powered by the opposite is next to useless because it's not ideal at all to use.
4:25 Doing a quickk google search you get this: Simply put, it is a fact that people eat Pokémon. In the original television show, Farfetch'd, a duck-like Pokémon, was hunted to near extinction because of its delicious taste, similar to the blue fin tuna today.
the art/animations actually look kinda cool (except grimace) if you ignore the super exaggerated gore and propaganda and some of the dialogue is unintentionally funny
It's actually kind of funny, because Legends Of Arceus almost feels like it's answering all of Peta's criticism. Like, there's a whole bit where you're trying to convince the people that poke balls are ethical and kind actually. The game centers around catching and studying Pokémon, and doing so to create a world where humans and Pokémon can coexist. Cuz, like, people definitely get hunted and eaten by pokemon. Not out right, but it does reference it.
@@JobiMorkos Arceus has dialogue of where it goes both ways. Pokemon are monsters, and were monsters. In the modern era games, it's a lot rarer, and people have tamed Pokemon to protect themselves. It is canon that "blacking out" is a family friendly alternative that other people don't always have the luxury of. Pokemon are stated to be dangerous in almost every game. Just a danger that you can train and befriend to minimize.
4:43 We use lesser beings as our clothing..? Who, how, when? Fur (like fur coats), leather, wool, and silk? I almost never see anyone wearing those, except maybe leather Edit: also, 13:09 they're against animal abuse but they don't even acknowledge that humans are animals too
There is no lesser being. While my clothes may contain wool and leather, its actually far better for the environment than the faux stuff which causes masses of fumes into the air.
