Yes, because he knows baseball, so how does he not know the penalty for violating rule number 21? When asked why he gambled on baseball, he repeatedly said he did not know why.
I'll never understand this ban, doesn't compare to what players have done recently, steroids is a much bigger issue, one of the greatest ever, All star player at 5 different positions, incredible...
Baseball was one of the few sports where players from different eras could be compared within reason...when Brady goddamn Anderson hits 50[never hitting more than 24 any other year], homers and Aaron never hit 50, it throws sacred numbers out the window..Sosa 3 straight years of 60 hrs??? One guy gambling on games doesn't compare...plus, these guys aren't riding the subway to games...why risk throwing games when you're already a millionaire...the Black Sox were paid in nickels
Bob Costas had an interesting take on the argument about inducting Rose into the hall. He said why not induct him and if it's such a big deal then put an asterisk next to his name alluding to his betting and leave it at that.
I could listen to him talk about baseball endlessly. I just wished he would have come clean about his gambling sooner. He wouldn't have created so much angst about the possibility of enshrinement. Baseball needs Pete Rose.
Pete Rose is allowed to fill stadium venues, but not allowed to go in clubhouses affiliated with MLB to speak to current baseball players and umpires... MLB needs to forgive Pete Rose and let him tell his message about the DO'S AND DON'TS TO THE GAME PETE ROSE LOVES TO THIS DAY!!! MLB ALSO NEEDS TO DO BADLY REINSTATE PETE ROSE AND SHOELESS JOE JACKSON TO COOPERSTOWN!!!!!
He's probably one of the 3 or 4 white baseball players that wasn't a vile, savage racist. Joe Morgan said Rose hung out with the bruhs and was always comfortable around bruhs.
I remember hearing a story that when Rose come up with the Reds Frank Robinson took him under his wing to show him the ropes. This was looked down upon by Reds' management and was one of the major reasons for his trade to the O's.
The argument that steroids is worse than gambling is ridiculous. So just because the penalties for steroids aren't severe enough that somehow has to do with Pete Rose and gambling? It makes no sense, he broke the rules, and for him to whine about it makes him look bad. If you're not accountable for breaking the rules what's the point?
