Was going to leave a comment, but that's exactly what I was going to say. Pete isn't just the all time hit leader, but one of the most interesting men in baseball
Nope. I enjoy listening to his take on the game but the poop stain he left on the game means his induction to the HOF, if ever, will be after he's gone. He messed up and he knows it. From what I've heard him say he is at peace with the fact that he will not be inducted in to the HOF during his lifetime. Gambling has the potential to completely destroy MLB. Steroids were/are wrong but their effect is just the opposite, steroids puts butts in seats.
Pete, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GAMBLE????? This game should be on its knees for Pete. He was just the consummate baseball guy. The way he played, the way he carried himself, the way he talks the game, you name it. If it's baseball, Pete's the best at it. If you're a baseball fan -- doesn't matter how old you are -- and Pete is talking, you best be listening.
Scott Marty "If you're a baseball fan -- doesn't matter how old you are -- and Pete is talking, you best be listening." The Commissioner's office listened, too- and heard Pete's lies. They bent over backwards trying to get the guy back in the game's good graces. He was arguably baseball's greatest star at the time, holder of the all-time hit record and many others. But he lied and he kept on lying, and he showed no contrition. Gambling on games is banned for a reason. If you're a baseball fan, you know why.
@@relytj321 Yeah, a lot of people tried to get through to Pete Rose. If only he'd listened, none of what followed would have been necessary. A great ballplayer, but the shadow will always be there.
Stumpy, INC. Today’s players have no interest in hitting like he hit. Hitting the ball where its pitched, hitting behind the runner, going the other way are all but gone from todays game. When teams can play 5 defenders on one side of the field and the hitters STILL try to pull the ball you know you have a different game. Can you imagine what Pete or Tony Gwynn would hit against the shift?
Stumpy, INC. yup be even said that on another video that something that bothers him the most is that he can’t go in the reds new stadium to the batting cages and help out young reds player. And I agree he defenetly has the skills to make these young red players rising stars
Pete and Tony would be regular .400 hitters in today’s game. Everyone throws 95 now...few know how to paint corners, throw true off speed, or throw inside(hitting a batter is not throwing inside). Both would have 20-25 homers a year now also
Pete Rose talking baseball is one of the most satisfying things in the world. He knows EVERYTHING about baseball. He has forgotten more about ball than anyone has ever known he is incredible.
Rose really had the appropriate hitting philosophy. I watched his at bats against Nolan Ryan.. Rose held his own against Ryan's fastball.. now, Ryan starts to get frustrated.. that he can't get Rose out with his best pitch. Then, it becomes a battle of Ryan's secondary pitches.. and if he can get those pitches over the plate.
Hand eye coordination is the basic key to hitting. See ball hit ball. As a lefthanded hitter pull hitter, I loved the pitch down and in. Baseball is a hard game but the concepts are really simple.
This gentleman Peter Edward Rose is a living baseball encyclopedia as well as a baseball legend, for fuck's sake put this man in the HOF before his time is up here on Earth.
They'll put him in, but after he passes away. It'll be one of those weird ironies in life. They'll give it to him, but they don't want him to be alive to see it.
David Hayes --- exactly! Man-o-man, Pete would have been a great manager. With his knowledge of baseball he really wouldn't have needed any assistant coaches.
Pete is right. As a right handed hitter, the curveballs were dangerous to stand in and see if it wasn't fastball chin music. As a switch hitter, that ball can curve right into your wheelhouse everytime and you can sit on those pitches and knock them the other way.
Not the best all time. Ruth hit 714 and a career .343 hitter. Williams hit 500+ and a career .344 hitter. Rose hit 4k hits, but his overall average was just a bit over .300
Usually the saying is don’t try to choreograph what you think is gonna happen. It just screws you up. Today the main thing is have a good swing and if the swing is good then eventually you will be right. So 1 out of 4 you will hit. The primary thing is make sure you have the swing down.
Someone in Vegas should go and interview Pete rose on his take on Glasnow tipping pitches for the astros... let’s face it, on game deciding series ,,, the astros will pay the big bucks to advance .. remember yu darvish game 7 ws?
When rose speaks that glowingly of another player, especially Bench, first look at their history and then think about how Bench reciprocating would benefit rose.
One great hitter! ... personality is a whole different issue; however I can overlook past sins now that he's speaking without being bragadousious, he almost appears sincere and humble, a refreshing change that will help him enter the Hall of Fame.
He should talk more about how bad it is for players/managers to bet on games. He still bets most of his salary every year. He’s great on baseball, but his continued addiction makes his remorse ring hollow.
Pete should be in the hall when he’s alive. He bet on baseball for his team to win and got info from managers and bet accordingly. Several guys are in who did a lot worse than Pete. It’s a shame
I never liked this guy, but I will say he sure knows the technical side of baseball. Yes, he's got an ego, yes, he's a bit of a jerk, but he SHOULD be in the HOF. We don't have players like Pete anymore.
You should take gambling in sports more seriously. What he did was very wrong. I doubt he meant to do bad, but he did. Consider the Black Sox Scandal and you'll see how those who would willfully harm the integrity of the game use rubes like Pete to get in. Pete's punishment might well be his greatest gift to the game.
He belongs there but he really reduced his chances when he gambled on games he was managing and then agreed to a lifetime ban from the game as a punishment.
The rule states lifetime ineligibility and rose knew it. So why did he risk it? Gambling addiction? He thought he was too smart to be caught? He thought he was bigger than the game? All three?
It feels like, he's conflating his tainted legacy with the glory of much more honest and noble characters. He's a good guy in my opinion, I think he just made some bad decisions.
Mark my words, 2030s, 2040s people. Pete Rose will make the Hall of Fame after he's dead. Only one guy from his era is more famous, and he would have struck out his mother on mother's day. 3 times. And brushed her in and beaned her once.
