@lurocp8 cocaine wasn’t illegal once upon a time in this country. Did that make it right? Use common sense dude. Steroids are addictive and can be dangerous and destructive if taken improperly for a long period of time. They also allow you to work out like a mad man and have abnormal muscle recovery. Players that don’t take it are exhausted and banged up because they play every day, making it very very hard to gain or even maintain muscle throughout the course of the season. So basically the only way players could keep up with Bonds is if they use steroids and put their health at risk. You’re cool with that?

I think the problem with that era is that many, many players were using PEDS. It wasn't just 3 people. So, what do you do? Have pitchers dominate you? Or, do you jump on board and play? My question is; if you're going to elect any player from that era, how do you know they didn't use? Using doesn't just mean testosterone. You don't just put on muscle. It's others stuff that promote better recovery between games, helps you get better sleep, helps you with better a cardio vascular system. If you're going to put in one, or you're not sure if someone used...then you've got to put them all in.

The MLB knew about and ignored PED use. All they cared about was butts in seats. The discussion always revolves around hitters that get 4 at bats a night, and never about pitchers who's velocity went from 84-91 to 94-105 and often throw 100+ pitches a night, not to mention the increase in their spin rate and the effect that has on breaking balls. 80-90% of pitchers in that era were juiced, which has FAR MORE impact on the game than a guy that hits an extra home run every 30-60 at bats.

No actually he put on that weight over 4 years, and said he watched the attention they had and knew he could do it. If he was going to go the steroid route, why would he hire a nutritionist to pick every meal for him? Balco created clean supplements too, and Bonds was literally the poster child of their Zinc based supplement that is perfectly legit.. The guy already was known as a health fanatic his entire career, he just switched focus to bulking up. It isn't his fault that a line drive hitter who was always hitting 40-50 with 10 off the wall put on enough strength to get it over the fence.

wsol80 lemme guess, ur from.....THE BAY AREA right? ? Barry's apologists make me sick...it's completely evident that he was on all sorts of illegal shit, not only did his muscles grow but, and this is what NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT, his goddamn SKULL grew larger from the inside out, meaning, BONE MASS/DENSITY increased, which can only happen with "help" from a diuretic steroid, or a massive infection and or disease. Dudes hat size bulked up (pun intended) over an inch. Cmon yall, let's stop being polite and start getting. ... REAL

@sirissac234
@sirissac234 6 лет назад
+wsol80 "No actually he put on that weight over 4 years," He put on the weight over four years because he was taking roids. A 38-39 year old man does not have the ability to gain that kind of weight in muscle mass without help. At that age men are actually starting to naturally LOSE muscle mass, not gain it. They are actually naturally LOSING testosterone production, not gaining it naturally. From the testimony against him the female witness stated that he told her he started to take steroids to recovery more quickly from an elbow injury. That is exactly what Mark Mcgwire said during his TV interview, he took them because he wanted to recovery quicker. Bonds is still trying to deceive the baseball world by refusing to simply admit to what he did, instead trying to pretend as if somehow he didn't know when he was being given roids, FOR YEARS. Pete Rose doesn't deserve the Hall of Fame because he shamed baseball and lied for years, the same for Barry Bonds and other roiders. They cheated to excel in the game, at the expense of other players and the fans. They treated baseball and the fundamental faith and good will of the fans like trash. They deserve no honors, only shame.

I like what Pete Rose had to say about Barry. I took my annual vacations for about 3-5 year period in the bay area, just when Bonds was breaking all those marks.SF was on fire, the cove was full to capacity with surfboards, kayaks small boats,etc. It was a fun time. Bonds hit a foul ball about 400 ft.

God I loved Pete Rose in the 70s and 80s but the more I hear the more he tarnishes my memories. He calls out PED users and points to the 73 HR season, then since Bonds is a friend he defends him as "clean", yet minutes earlier he had him under the bus. Nonsensical.

Barry Bonds used PED’s but I understand. He was the best all around player in modern times for power, average, and stolen bases without cheating. He sees Jose Canseco strut into locker room at All-Star game right before the home run contest. Canseco looks so thick and powerful Barry Bonds can’t believe his eyes. Bonds ask him about it and Canseco who never tried to hide his PED usage since Baseball encouraged it by their silence tells Bonds all about it. Canseco tells Bonds “you are twice the baseball player I am yet I am more famous and make more money”. ( Canseco admitted he was not talented enough to make it to Pro Baseball without PED’s taken since High school.) That’s all Barry Bonds needed. He felt cheated by Baseball so he made the decision to use PED’s to even the playing field. It wasn’t right but I understand the pressure he was under.

And like Rose said,... it's not just the players. The new ballparks were built smaller, and the ball was wound tighter. In the old days the outfield dimensions were deeper. Forbes Field in Pittsburgh had a Center Wall at 457 ft, and the RT field line was 375ft. A newer stadium like AT&T (Oracle Park) in San Francisco has a RT field line of 309 ft.

Poor Pete, all the numbers he quoted (weight gain, HRs etc) was almost entirely Barry Bonds and then when he was asked about Bonds at the end specifically he had to lie. BTW- nobody, let alone pro athlete, gains 40 lbs of muscle in their late 30s. Bonds weighed 185, maybe up to 190 by his late 20s and SURPRISE now weighs 180.

I don't know what Bonds did but it was really something. Barry was a great natural hitter and obviously could see a pitched ball very well. After he bulked up with whatever it was bulked him up, he was still a great natural hitter but he could swing twice as fast as a human being. Bonds should be forced in court to return all the money he earned by cheating in baseball. It’s like if I suddenly had a million dollars, but robbed a bank to get it. They would put me in jail and I would have to return the money. Not athletes. They can cheat and get away with it. This is why Bonds will NEVER BE ALLOWED IN THE HALL OF FAME, unless he buys a ticket.

Players have been using since the 30-today. 1/4 of the hall have ped users. Today the balls are using ped’s. They are way harder and wound tighter. I think bonds knew he was taking something in his spine so his pain would go away and feel young again, but I don’t think he thought it was Steroids. I think he thought it was stem-sells and a long term pain reliever. It was prescribed by his doctor as a new type of treatment for the spine. The side effects were it made his whole body grow bigger .
