Talk about underrated bands. Absolutely love Metal Church. I honestly remember the first time I heard the song Badlands around 1990, man, such a kick ass song which remains as one of my favorite of all time. Kurt came across as a very classy, genuine guy. All the artists you have interviewed fit the same mold Pete, really gracious and down to earth guys who are enormously talented, who enjoy what they do and also love sharing their music with everyone. Great episode as always!!
Kurdt and Pete, kudos on an outstanding chat/interview between two such passionate followers of music with such a great and relaxed respect for each other. I wasn’t familiar with Presto Ballet but it’s playing now and makes me want to listen to more so....mission accomplished. Looking forward to Kurdt’s return soon to talk about what will become all the released music he discussed. Another great show!
Presto Ballet. Fantastic band. I remember when I first discovered Rush in the late 70's and they really blew me away, I had exactly the same feeling when I first heard Presto Ballet. One of the best from US. Can't wait for the new album.
Best show ever. As a longtime Metal Church fan it was great to hear from Kurdt, who seems like such a nice genuine guy. Metal Church are one of the most under-rated bands ever. I love the fact that they always seemed to be untrendy & only real music fans loved & appreciated them & their music. Thanks Pete & thanks Kurdt for a great interview that just made me smile.
Wow! Pete great interview. I have always loved Metal Church since first hearing them when they released their debut album. My good friend had the Debut on vinyl and we was really blown away by it. My first release I purchased was the The Dark and loved it and was hooked for life. But my most favorite release was and has always been Blessings. Their first 3albums are truly classic Metal albums. And Kurdt has always been a really great down to earth guy and I have always loved his playing. He's a class act. Thanks Pete I really enjoyed the interview. Keep safe my friend.\m/🙂
Fan since a friend loaned my the self-titled debut on cassette in 7th grade, 1985. To this day, it remains one raging stomper of an album. All eras and lineups of MC have kept the faith and kept the flame burning with talent and devotion. Dave Wayne (RIP), Mike Howe and Ronnie Munro all have done a stellar job as singers and front men over the decades. Glad Mike is back in the "congregation!"
Great interview! I’ve been a huge fan of Kurdt’s work in all of his projects and look forward to the upcoming releases. I finally had the pleasure of seeing Metal Church live in Pittsburgh last year and they were terrific. Kurdt has always seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
Great chat with Kurdt. Always loved Metal Church and I agree they are hard to categorise. So glad to see Mike Howe back. Love Presto Ballet as well, so different. Totally agree Hanging In The Balance great album shit cover. Joan Jett on backing vocals on one track. Great interview Pete
I'm a huge fan of your channel you taught me so much about music as i'm only 16 years old and dig 70s 80s hard rock usual for someone my age, keep up the job work buddy :)
Gentlemen, thank you both for a very entertaining interview. Kurdt, I absolutely loved the last Presto Ballet offering. I thought that one was stellar. From top to bottom its one of the best prog albums of the decade. There's not a weak song on it. It starts strong and finishes with a bang. It builds in intensity lyrically and musically with a few tranquil moments along the way. I've recently gotten into the Metal Church catalog and have found it very good, too. Honestly, I miss the keyboards in metal when they aren't there, but I get what you're doing and know it's better than most bands who are attempting the same things in their field. Everything I own and have heard makes the realize how cool these two bands are. But the song I always gravitate toward most often in your catalog comes from the "Peace Among the Ruins". "Find the Time" is, to me, a timeless classic. Though keyboard driven it's so heavy, so crisp and so clean at the same time. It's one of my favorite songs of all time--sitting next to Kansas' "Mysteries and Mayhem/The Pinnacle" suite. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the great interview. I was one of the people who suggested 'Hanging In The Balance' as one of the worst album covers of all time. To my knowledge, their record company did it behind the band's back, and here Kurdt tells the story in detail. Love his positive energy, and Metal Church kicks ass!! 🤘
Awesome video y'all!!!! I have to go check out Nektar now. Never heard of them. Thank you Kurdt for all the great music over the years. "Anthem to the estranged" is on my all time favorite, top 20 list. I think hanging in the balance had some great songs, regardless of the album cover. Y'all had some great album covers as well. Awesome video Pete! Have fun guys. ❤
What a great guy you can really feel his passion for music through his words. Hope more people watch the interview it’s excellent. Not really that familiar with Metal Church but now I want to dig into their catalog. Nice work Pete.
Four years ago I finally saw Metal Church a couple of times with the returning Mike Howe on vocals. Headlining in Tacoma then four months later in Seattle with Armored Saint. The band means more to me than they'll ever know since "The Dark" was the first thrash album I bought growing up. So I can't thank Kurdt and company enough
Holy cow.. 1st! I was hoping you'd check out some Presto Ballet soon. Nice to see that Presto Ballet is still looking to put new stuff out. Kurdt was one of the coolest, most genuine musicians I ever met back in about '86-ish after a Metal Church show at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.
I remember the first time I heard Presto Ballet. I've always loved metal and prog, since I was a kid in the 70's. Anyway, I was shopping in a CD store that had a huge metal selection and they started playing Peace Among the Ruins, and I ran up to the counter and was like "Who is this???!" Bought it on the spot and have been a fan ever since. (Also have been a Metal Church fan since the beginning too!)
Thanks Pete. Been listening to Metal Church from the beginning.. Got to see them open for Motorhead and Priest. Killer show. Literally. A murder suicide in the parking lot at Starwood in Nashville Tn.
Not familiar with Metal Church or Presto Ballet, I will have to check them out. But this was a brilliant interview and Kurdt came across as a very genuine and funny guy, incredibly fascinating to listen to. Really enjoyed this, thanks Pete.
Metal Church... those guys were on fire! I am going to have to give them another listen #PetePardoArmy #PetePardoNation #BigMeatPete #SplashYourSeaOfTranquilityAllOverMyFace
Yes, Metal Church is definitely underrated. They have some truly high-quality songs that just make you wonder what the hell is wrong with the music scene as you watch other less talented bands become more famous than they did. Oh well, at least at the end of the day these guys can sleep at night knowing they put out some good music over the years. Good interview guys!
I'll definitely check out Presto. I wonder if they prog power fest exists anymore, feel like I haven't heard of it in years. I saw Metal Church a few years back a few miles from my place. I'm only 5 hours from seattle, so they've always been cool with slumming it over here. Same with Queensryche, they've always shown us love too. Loved Kurdts enthusiasm, was a nice breath of fresh air!
Off subject....I like Big Big Train quite a bit. Very English but I dig it. Checked website didn’t find a top 10 album list for them. Don’t know if many other watchers like the band but they have many albums and they are quality musicians with great vocals. Just putting my vote in for a top ten for their albums...thanks Pete.
What a fantastic interview. It's not a Sea of Tranquility program without hearing the dogs input. 😆 lol. But seriously it definitely piqued my interest.
How about a show about songs for funeral z....I'm not being morbid....but I'm just getting over prostate cancer...b4 getting results had to sort out stuff and funeral arrangements came up .songs I wanted was the question????? So I came up with .....islands of the dead be bop deluxe...alive pearl Jam.2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps splodgnessabounds...across the universe Beatles...thank you led zeppelin.........sabbaths die young and Floyd's perfectly numb where on the bad news list....so wot do you think ???? Wot would you and your muckaz ( friends. Mates.) Have.. 🤔
I can agree that hanging in the balance album cover was downright ridiculous. some of the songs on there are decent but that cover, wow, just stupid looking.
Am here because of this guy (the ONLY Original member) and because Of the original lineup 🤘🏻🤘🏻 and the first two albums Metal Church & The Dark☠️👆🏻... everything else, after just sucks 😒😩💩👇🏻
