Agreed, 100 percent!!! I actually laugh, because Fleetwood Mac is one of my favorite bands as well as original lineup Kiss, and Peter and Mick Fleetwood are underrated and underappreciated drummers and Ace and Lindsey Buckingham are truly underrated and guitarist 🎸 wise as well!!!

Peter was perfect for Kiss. My first drumming influence. Great drummer ❤🥁

I agree Peter was perfect for Kiss he certainly help them create that unique, special sound, they didn’t sound like every other rock band. Eric Carr was a good hard rock drummer, but he sounds like every other hard rock drama, the same sound if you listen to songs like I love it loud, that big drum sound it’s great but it’s common. Peter made the band sound unique. I heard Paul Stanley say when our car was in the band they became a Mitu band. Meaning whenever was popular they would do, they were just like every other hand metal band during that unmasked period , but with Peter in the band they were unique. That’s all me and he was great, that means he was a perfect match for the band and they made them sound good, so he was great forecasts. And he did inspire a lot of great from as of today, most of it with his image the big drum set, all the cymbals the rising platform , all the bells and whistles it just inspired young drummers

I think you hit the nail on the head, when your sad kiss mesmerize people. I think what Peter Criss did , he wasn’t a great drummer, he was kind of a weak drummer, but he had all the bells and whistles. The big drum set, the rising platform the bells and whistles he just was mesmerizing he just inspired a lot of young drummers with his image as the cat man

If you want To hear great drum solos, Listening to Steve Smith with journey in 1983, Tommy Altridge , Mike Portnoy , Mike Mangini, Billy Cobham, Stewart Copeland, Greg bassinet, Virgil Donati Listen to a recording videos by those drummers and then tell me Peter even comes close to having a great solo, he’s using all the facts Peter with flangers .

I totally agree. In fact, 100000 years drum solo from Alive is and will be my favorite all time because of the bass drum beat and flanger throughout. Therefore, I never understood why he changed it for God of Thunder since I first heard it on Alive 2. Furthermore he played the same Alive drum solo just as a slightly slower pace during the reunion tour.

I love Peter Criss! Not every drummer has to have chops like Terry Bozzio or Bash like Bonham to be a great drummer. Peter was a unique, musical drummer. Be it the hi hat pull-offs in Dr.Love, the syncopated beats in the chorus of Shock Me, the ghost notes in 100,000 years, the ride cymbal brilliance during the solo of Nothin’ to Lose, or the simple cowbell quarter notes in Ladies Room, Peter played signature parts that enhanced the song, and inspired legions of real drummers and air drummers alike! Peter’s playing had soul and feel. It breathed! This solo is Krupa influenced and cool. Check out his solo from the January 1976 shows at Cobo Hall in Detroit- a young Peter was fast and furious- a great solo! His 1977 Detroit solo on You Tube is also a great jazz influenced piece. His 1977 Japan tour solo is awesome, demonstrating Peter’s unique feel for his tom-Tom’s and fluidity around the kit. When people slag Peter or try to compare him to other drummers, my response is simply this... Rembrandt, DaVinci, Van Gogh, and Picasso are all considered great artists, yet all of their styles are completely different. They have nothing in common, but they are all amazing. As is Peter. Eric Carr had the power. Eric Singer has the chops, both great players, to be sure, but in my opinion neither of them had the unique , signature feel, sound or soul of Peter Criss, and that’s why Peter will always be my favorite Kiss drummer... and one of my all time favorite drummers period!

Well I agree with most of the things you say, except that Peter was a moody drummer, sometimes he was real good sometimes he was terrible. He said himself he wore his emotions on his sleeve, if he was upset about something that day he would be terrible, I heard him at Madison Square Garden the 1996 reunion tour he was great he was really hitting hard he was really into it he was really 100% focused on playing that night, but I heard him like a year later he was terrible again he had ProTools all over the drums, flanges to enhance the sound they were so ringing, the overtime sounded terrible. I also disagreed with the gene Krupa thing he sounds nothing like Gene Krupa, just because your play on the floor tom toms don’t mean your Gene Krupa, did he like Gene Krupa maybe, but I could tell you for a fact he did not take private lessons from Gene Krupa I will take that to my grave, I actually had a conversation I worked with Gene Krupa for almost 3 years at that time he open the school of drumming with cozy Cole, and I said to him how are you going to teach at the school when we play six nights a week. He told me if you’re crazy I’m not going to teach I do not have the patience to teach a private lesson I will never teach a private lesson that’s a special talent that I don’t have , Peter might have but I doubt it went to the school but I have no proof that he didn’t go, but I have a fax right from gene Krupa‘s mouth saying he never taught anybody. And remember this was before kiss so Peter wasn’t famous yet so I do agree that when Peter was on he did help make that kiss sound unique he had that may have a style I can’t put my finger on it I would’ve never played say juice do I heat played it without 16th notes running through the song I wouldn’t have done that to me that sounded cheap, but it was part of what made the song unique, and different than other rock bands. And Peter did inspire a lot of people I don’t think because he was a great drummer I think because he was in calfs he has a rising platform, he had ProTools on his drums his drums sounded with loungers and the lights and the Pyro tech everything was so exciting so everybody was just inspired and wanted to be like that

it is interesting to hear what trained musicians get out of music. being untrained myself, is like being colorblind and hearing someone talk about the world of color they can see. I just play e-drums by ear- quantized in a daw I can hear the difference timing makes. curious though, do you count when you play or do you relax and feel the beat ? Cheers!

All the great drummer everybody wants to play with them like Steve Steve Gadd, he plays with Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, steely Dan, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock everybody wants to play with Steve Gadd, Tony Royster he plays with Katy Perry, he plays with Jay Z he plays with Jay OSF stone, he plays with me not Ferguson everybody wants to play with Tony. Tony Williams he plays with Miles Davis, he plays with Herbie Hancock, he plays with Dizzy Gillespie everybody wants to play with Tony you tell me one person besides cats and to be honest they don’t even want them nobody wants to play with Peter he’s not that great.

To say he wasn't a great soloist must make me think you're one of those guys who thinks a good drum solo has to have double bass blowing your face off or it isn't good. This solo is dynamic, jazzy, has tons of feeling, heart and soul --- AND his endurance rocks like you said. A style like his is hard to find. I can't imagine how anyone could speak critically of this guy, unless they think drumming is a contest. Just my two cents worth.

I really love what Peter does on his drum solos. He really lets you have it BIG in a clear and powerful way, knocking the audiences on their asses! Notice that Peter plays all of his drums that he has instead of just a chosen few drums. So many drummers in the rock era had these massive setups but they only hit a chosen few drums. This is pathetic. All great drummers should go "around the world" like Peter does, hitting all the high drums then arriving to the low drums.... FANTASTIC! We love you Peter! You are a rock legend!

I studied with Jim Chapin I know Peter took a few lessons from Jim , but Gene no way believe me Gene did not teach anybody

I followed Kiss thru high school, had never heard this solo. Surprising how many elements remind me of Peart solos. Definitely more skill shown here than you’d glean from their song tracks.

Peter wasnt the most technical drummer ever but he didn’t need to be. He was PERFECT for KISS. Neil Peart would have sounded like crap playing with Gene Simmons. ALL music has merit and ALL musicians have talent. But not all music and musicians are the same and THAT is what makes discovering mother music so awe inspiring. Years of blood sweat and tears comes down to a 3 minute solo…..that’s ROCK and ROLL!! That’s why we LOVE it…..that’s why we LIVE it!!!

How in the bloody @&!#% hell could Paul "The Narcissist" Stanley EVER publicly state that Peter Criss couldn't hold a song together with his playing ?? And that it was HE that had to 'instruct' Pete how to drum to certain songs. Asinine !!! I've claimed it from the mountain top before and I'll claim it AGAIN .......I went from KISS Army member in the beginning to not giving one shit about their career once Peter and Ace were disbanded. The very two that really mattered during the early years. I believe that Mr. Egotistical ( Gene ) and Mr. Narcissist ( Paul ) were "afraid" that Ace and Peter were the more popular of the four. Just IMO !!!!

Hey there! I'm not that trained. I took a few years of drum lessons and some guitar and string bass lessons. But I absolutely play drums more by feel. I never count. Maybe that's "wrong" but it works for me. Mick Jagger once said that Charlie Watts had the most unique feel- that his playing breathed and he always knew when to push the Stones forward, or when to pull them back and keep them from falling off the cliff. Some drummers tend to play slightly ahead of the beat, and some play slightly behind the beat. I know this will sound crazy to many, but I tend to prefer those guys than the ones who play right on the beat. They just sound less mechanical to me. That being said, I love DEVO's original drummer Alan Myers and I love Neil Peart. I think most would agree those guys are very exacting, deliberate drummers. I guess this is why I just can't listen to music made with a programmed drum machine- it simply does not, and can not duplicate the individual dynamics, swing and feel of a human drummer.

My 1st concert ever 8 yo. KISS ALIVE II MADISON SQ GARDEN. In the middle of the show, all of a sudden, a plexi-glass sheild closed arrond PC. He was surrounded by fireworks, and just beat the living sh*t out of those drumms. The wildest thing I've ever seen to this day. Even this solo doesnt come close. Why oh why did he leave the band so early...maybe it had something to do with that f'ing chick Beth.

Peter Criss had his better days. This doesn't measure up to the solo on Alive during 100,000 years but it is much much better than his solo on the Psycho Circus tour at Dodger Stadium in 1998. What a tragedy of how much he fell off. His tempo on this is making my wrists sore listening to it now. Amazing how he kept it accurate. Wonder how many chemicals were in his system? I hope none but judging by what you read now you can't be sure😾🤷🤐😢
