Peter never was the most technically proficient drummer out there, but he had a feel and swing that fit those songs perfectly and he always "played the song" as they say great. All those comments talking shit on a man over 70 that is a legend and inspired millions of young people to pursue their passion for music is pathetic and sad. There's more to music than who has the fastest this or the most complex that.
Ppl are taking this shit to serious. It's not a concert. He's jamming with friends. Relax. He ain't gonna play the way he did in 76 and he probably doesn't care.
When I was a kid back in the 70s, Peter was the coolest thing on two legs. Lord, how I miss those days! It was such an awesome time to grow up! My favorite summer was 1977. My days were filled with nothing but Star Wars and KISS at their PEAK! I literally wore the grooves out on my copy of Love Gun! 💖
Pete will always be a great drummer. And as far as a human, he is top notch. We all have had demons in our past. Look at him today. My shit is weak in my past also. So, Pete is doing his thing. Well. Fuck you Paul. Maybe you need a dose of humility like Pete got.
@@jondunmore4268 What's the problem, he isn't as flashy as you think he should be? Playing and writing music for 14 years I'd take a guy who I can rely on keeping time all day but isn't flashy over a guy that can play crazy fills quickly, but speeds up and slows down constantly. Good drumming is all about keeping steady time, as well as playing to the song. If you want people to notice you, play lead guitar.
@@Ayyem93 -- You're obviously hiding some deep pain, my redheaded step-child. Please find some friends soon who can support you through your time of need.
Look the issues are apparent, but so unimportant at this point. I mean you can't hate on this. It's good enough to be enjoyable, and fun, and the guy singing is living not just his dream, but the dream of all of us who picked up a pair of drumsticks because of Peter Criss. This is actually quite beautiful to watch, and an incredibly cool thing for this guy to have. Really cool on Peter's part as well as the whole band. Thumbs up.
I started playing drums because of Peter Criss on KISS Alive. It's really that simple. My decision to learn that instrument was made then. Thanks Peter for the inspiration. :-)
That’s how I think of it too. Same goes for Ace and Paul. Now they’re terrible to listen to but there was a moment they shined. That moment inspired millions to chase after the same. I respect them for that but for their own sake it’s better to stop now before they become laughable. The old fans will understand but the youngsters out there will destroy them.
@Stephen Joens Not everyone is a native American or English but if you just try to read his comment comprehensively it's very clear what he means. He's just saying that the issues between Peter and Kiss are irrelevant. He brought influence and inspired millions of player around the world. To see the guy still playing and having fun is great stuff. No need for the WTF, by the way. Just keep it respectful, especially in these corona days.
@@wattage2007 I think it's pretty obvious what I was talking about." He had that swing and that style". Gene Simmons speaking about Peter Criss at their Rock and Roll Hall Fame induction ceremony. Check it out WTF!!!
@@wattage2007 not much anymore, but in the early days Peter had a beautiful swing to his playing. A bounce that gave those records the feel they possessed. That was gone upon the arrival of Eric ... who was technically a better drummer but he did not possess the swing that Peter offered naturally. It was much like the swing that Ringo lent to the Beatles feel. It was evident to me as a kid upon hearing Dynasty and Unmasked and even some of side 4 of Alive II that it was not Peter playing even before the truth was announced... it was because that swing was not there. The drumming was absolutely GREAT ... but it was not Peter's particular feel.
Nice vocals! Not in a studio processing his voice through million dollar equipment. As for Peter, he's the MAN!!!! This band sounds as good as the real Kiss.....
For me strutter always has been a peter Criss song, my favourite drummer was also a KISS drummer (Eric Carr) but for me anyone plays this song like peter. The skills of singer have impressed me , and the band is on point.
Ok, now I KNOW you are an uneducated buffoon. Bonham was one of THE greatest drummers in the rock world. Peter NEVER held a candle to him. Jesus, dude, get off the drugs......DRUGS ARE BAD!!!!!
I am reading all these posts then came upon yours. Bonham wasn't that great? I have to ask you what is it that you think made Bonham not great and i am not talking about comparing him to Peter Criss. I am just talking about drumming. It amazes me how people make statements without being able to back them up so i am looking forward to hearing why you think Bonham wasn't that great. Thanks!
Heroin? Paul has been clean all his life and can't sing at all anymore. Peter has been doin cocaine like a madman and plays fine for a retired 72 year old..
That's about all he's good for these days: one song in a studio with five other people who aren't going to tell him to arrive on time. Not being mean: he's over 70, he's had to cope with injury, drugs, lawsuits, no income; he's slightly retarded, and he's very bitter, he's a liar, and he doesn't practice at all due to his age and injuries, so, just sayin'...
Jon Dunmore ahh yes another person who doesn’t know peter personally and hasn’t heard the real stories, just another punk brainwashed by the gene and Paul band. Gene and Paul are the liars.
@@midlifecrisis13 Says his physical limitations. He struggled to get by back in 96. Peter on stage in 2020 would be awful. Eric Singer is a much better drummer and much better suited for the band.
I imagine seeing one song is different than playing full shows night after night. I love Kiss, and especially Ace and Peter, but playing in a band myself, I've seen where guys sound great one day, and they're a mess the next. Though Peter does sound good here, doesn't he?
Peter Criss once said that when they started Kiss and started rehearsing they played the Wicked Lester songs which although good, weren't really setting the world on fire. But when Paul brought in "Strutter" He was going "Okay, now, we're taking it to a whole other level!"
@@marcf869 -- Oh wow, you put five a's in your comment. You must have won that exchange. I didn't train hard enough punching my 'o' key. Let me try: Uh, nooooooooooooooooooo. (Hey, I did it! The triumph of the human spirit! That means MY statements is correct now!)
Exactly ! Fuck the haters !!! Peter accomplished more than most of them ever will. How many of those idiots can say they played in one of the biggest bands in history ? How many Gold and Platinum records have they played on ? How many times have they been on sold out world tours ? How many have played on one of the most influential albums in rock history Kiss Alive ? Peter wasn't the best drummer ever and he never claimed he was. He played with feeling and from his heart. He was an integral part of Kiss's success in the 70's. He's not 27 anymore. So what, we're all going to get old. Peter's playing on those first 5 Kiss albums was great ! Fuck the haters ! Bunch of wanna be rock star losers. And oh yeah...by the way, Peter is still a millionaire.
My first inclination was to make a good natured joke, but then I got distracted and it was playing in the background and the singer and the rest of the band was pretty solid!! Really well done!
not for my taste, carr had no soul to his playing it was like a drum machine....maybe that means he was technically better, but just like guys that can play malmsteen style speed shredding, wheres the feel?
He still has the chops...probably wouldn’t be able to do a full show or tour but he’ll always be the original drummer/co-founder of KISS and no one can take that away from him.
This is obviously his band hosting a guy who wanted to sing a kiss song- probably during rehearsals for his farewell shows. He’s in his 70’s- he’s had tendinitis and other issues- but the song parts are all there, and his timekeeping is steady. He’s just not snapping the drums like a guy who has no tendon issues- I don’t understand the negative commentary on this vid
As far as his haters, their just a bunch of wanna be rock star losers who've never accomplished anything in the music business near the level that Peter did. Peter's playing was fabulous on those first 5 Kiss albums. He's toured the world several times in one of the biggest rock bands in history. He's influenced millions of kids to pick up drumsticks. How many of his detractors and little haters can say that ? That's right, not too many. All they know is double bass blast beats and hitting the drums as hard as possible with no concept of Accents or taste. Losers, that's what they are and all they'll ever be. True story ! Rock on forever Peter !!!🥁
He definitely had it, but he lost it pretty quick (around 1978 imo). Here he plays with more energy than he did during the entire reunion tour. He seems to be enjoying himself :)
Ingemar Gustafsson It took him WEEKS to learn how to play Detroit Rock City. Weeks! I could do that kind of drumming when I was 12. He was never even a decent drummer. On his best day he was below average. But he managed to convince people who know nothing about drumming that he didn't suck.
James Rudd good for you fuckwad, the beats wouldn’t be here to teach or learn if it wasn’t for him, playing something already created is easy, it takes skill to CREATE something.
I think all the people bashing Peter Criss are all forgetting one thing. Peter played drums in one of the all time at least top 10 bands on the planet which in my opinion makes him legendary. Its not about his technique or how fast he could play and all the other horse shit people are saying about him. Its about what he was a part of and Kiss have their place in history forever. There will never be another band like Kiss or a drummer like Peter. You all have to get over it. The man is 72 years old and is not looking to set the world on fire again. Looks like he is just having a great time playing. Why would anyone be concerned if he is boring or don't have it anymore or can't make it through an entire concert? He needs to prove nothing to no one. He's been there done that and just living his life. End of story!
Blippy Stiffington Your entitled to your opinion but wether he sucks or not he is still the original drummer of one of the biggest bands on the planet and that says it all.
Hi James. Now that's an asinine to make isn't it? First off i am a full time musician and i don't suck. LOL Your response is one of the reasons i don't like to respond to posts online because of getting answers like the one you gave. I didn't say Peter Criss was Dave Weckl. I stated that no matter which way you put it or what your opinion is he was and always will be the original drummer that played in one of the biggest rock bands on the planet that made tons of money. I don't understand why people read into this stuff so much. Does it make you feel better to say he sucks considering what he achieved? Your entitled to your opinion and respect it. I just don't get how people make crazy statements about other musicians who have and will do more than we can only dream about. Have a good one.
Anthony Liberto Fact: Peter Criss is not now, never has been, and never will be a good drummer. If you knew all the shit the band had to do from 1976 to 1979 to just play that material, you'd know what I mean. They finally gave up on him in 1979 and used session drummers instead. His return in 1995 was full of problems. The dude simply cannot play the drums well. Period. Jazz drumming takes a whole different level of skill, and Peter certainly doesn't have that skill. Listen, no offense, but if you don't know he sucks, you must suck. You don't have 22 years experience, you have one year experience repeated 22 times.
According to Paul's book he was terrible then too. After reading that and watching this I'd say he's playing the best he's ever played in his life (but you'd have to be a dope to not think Peter was an animal back then regardless of how Paul portrayed things). His fills are pretty damn good though.
He wasn't good in 1974, and he isn't good now. He is simply not a good drummer. The only people who think he is or ever was are people who know nothing about drumming.
Mc90 Ringo is a human metronome. A solid drummer. Anyone who says he isn't good is an idiot. You are CLEARLY not a musician. Look, if you don't know what you're talking about...it's best to shut the hell up to avoid looking like an idiot. Just a suggestion.
Mc90 If you're a musician, you're a shitty one. Professional session guy here. Where have you played other than your parent's basement. Peter sucks. The fact you don't know this isnproof you suck too.
@@ocho611 Couldn't be more wrong. It's not a tribute band when it has the two founding members in the band. Paul is in better shape at 69 than you have been in your entire life. And please name me one band that isnt in it for the money. All of them are.
@@natecannon6746 i never said any band wasn't in it for the money. and you have no idea what shape I'm in or have been in, that's an entirely weird thing to say. odd and presumptive. but you're right about one thing- they're not a tribute band, they're a cover band (and not a particularly good one) with a budget.
Well, people say he's done, I think he did it excellent. The speed of kiss mudic at this day is not as fast as it used to be 30 years ago, so.....I think there will be a last reunion.
Peter Criss and the Ventures' Mel Taylor are the first drummers who caught my attention around the age of 5 or 6. I have many heroes, but these were the first. THANK YOU, PETER CRISS for being part of the reason I discovered the joy of drums and drumming!
I agree. I love Peter but there's been a lot of bad performances during some reunion shows and such. Here though, strong confident playing, killed it, and it's great to see!
I love it. Very reminiscent of their studio version. I like Vito's vocals better than Paul's. I could definitely hear this version on an 8-track tape blaring through those pillow style clunky headphones 🎧, and me just letting the stress of another elementary school day fade away as I hang out in my attic bedroom doodling on paper instead of doing my homework back in the day. Liked and saved in my playlist. Awesomeness! 🤗😀
I thought Peter couldn't play. According to I'm better than everyone else Stanley he can't. At least he plays his instrument instead of prancing around the stage like an old drag queen.
Peter is AWESOME...that long tom roll off was tight...and the triplet close to the end was skits....I really enjoyed this....even tho KISS Alive was partially dubbed...the Drum Solo was not...that I know of....and still is one of the BEST DRUM Solo's EVER!!...Thank You.....I really enjoyed this!!!
James Rudd ....excuse me....I am a MUSICIAN....I attended and graduated from MUSICIANS INSTITUTE and I have had lessons with Van Halen Vai Metheny Batten....also attended MANY DRUM Seminars taught by Pocaro and Smith and etc....so...seems to me you dont know the FIRST thing about me....dumbass!!!....go troll somewhere else you hack......incidentally....why did you only reply to MY comment ?!....there are many more COMPLIMENTARY comments here about Peters PLAYING....why don't you reply to the others....the first thing I was taught in MUSIC SCHOOL was to APPRECIATE ACCEPT AND APPLAUD.....NEVER criticize condemn or complain....so....it is clear to ME....YOU are not even CLOSE to being a MUSICIAN because a COMPLIMENTARY COMMENT triggered NEGATIVITY from within YOU!
Gregg Galdo Funny you mention Porcaro. I knew him. He taught me more about drumming than anyone else. He would have been the first to tell you Peter is not a good drummer. Granted, he would do it graciously and politely, but would do it nonetheless. He was a wonderful guy. I am not as nice. Here's the bottom line - if you don't know Peter is a bad drummer, you suck as a musician. Period. It is really that simple. Keep up the lessons, it's obvious you need many more if them. Then again, your one year of experience repeated 22 times kind of leads me to believe you won't ever not suck.
Danny H regardless No one can replace Paul Stanley Peter is replaceable. Much harder to find a performer and singer like Paul. Listen to this video. I'd rather have Paul with no sleep singing.
tambor76 you obviously haven't watched tape of the farewell tour. Which would be much worse now cause he is much older It's one thing to practice once a week It's another to do a tour

I'm not dogging Anton Fig,Eric Carr, Eric Singer, because they are all fantastic drummers but still none play like the Cat Man nor do could they top his own style of playing.
