Peter Gabriel is brilliant, but its Kate who brings the magic to this song. This song helped me through depression, homelessness and heartbreak. She came from near to where most of my family do. So whenever I hear her voice it's like coming home. As a young kid in the 70s I'd see posters advertising her gigs in local pubs. This Woman is like some Fey Princess. There is an earth Mother comfort to her voice. Her and Peter should be Honoured in some way for that song, because it has saved thousands of lives.

I can pretty much hold my shit together until Kate sings softly "We're proud of who you are." and then I am a mess. This is definitely a song for 2020. I would so take a hug from Kate right now.

Years ago, when I went with my father to the oncologist and we found out he had pancreatic cancer, when we got back into the car, this was the first song I played for him. It was the first thing that came to my mind to try to comfort him. He passed in 2006 after fighting the cancer for a year and a half. There were a few songs I had a very hard time listening to after he passed and this was one of them. Only recently, have I been able to hear this again and not tear up or get very very sad. I love Kate Bush, I have since I was eight years old. I'll be 50 in January. That's a long time to have an artist in your heart and soul. Thank you for listening to this very special song.

I love the fact that throughout the video, Kate NEVER let go of him once, esp when he was in a deep trough of self doubt and self worth. So symbolic and powerful.

Song was written because of closing mines in the 8ties in England. So many lost their work, their future, their meaningful lives. During the time there were great benefits for the coal-mine-companies humans like you and me were used to risk their lives to dig up the dirt (also Peter Gabriël-song :P) called coal. When companies understood that coal would'nt be the energy form for the futere and payments to the workes in the mines would be getting more, mines were closed and employers were send home without financial compansation. This is were the song is about: thanks for your hard work: but you are not needed anymore...

In Your Eyes from the Secret World live video is special. It paints a picture of the world in joyful harmony for me, it's life affirming and a lot of fun. Peter Gabriel is an amazing artist and his choices have shown what musical integrity he has.

Brilliant song by Peter, but of course, it's Kate's extraordinarily beautiful vocals that make this song the classic that it is (all the studio techs said they felt an angel had visited them from heaven and they were in the presence of genius when Kate came in to record her vocals). I also love bassist Tony Levin's muted bass. He said that he was looking for a way to dampen the sound of his bass, when he took out a diaper from his baby girl's diaper bag and shoved it under the bass strings. Worked perfectly!

Fantastic song! It was actually written about depression era America after Peter saw some photographs taken in that time. As for Kate, she truly is a national treasure and has been since she started at the age of 18 with an amazing song called "Wuthering Heights". You really need to listen to some of her stuff, it is, to say the least, unique. Personally, I love "The Man with the Child in his Eyes". On a personal note, Kate doesn't do much publicly anymore but is very active in her local community with her kid's school etc and as she lives near me I've met her, briefly, a couple of times and let me tell you she really isn't very photogenic. On camera she looks beautiful but in the flesh she is breathtaking!

This is from 1985. It's not a mushy song.. It was political. I was in my 20s in Scotland. It was a tough time . millions unemployed,people moving around trying to find work It was the same all over the UK. Short of everything.My mum had 10 kids.My dad had left us all,the older ones got what work/money they could to keep the young ones fed. I don't know how she did it. The part where he says the trees had burned down to the ground is in reference to people having no money for heating/coal due to strikes so they cut down the trees.The standing on the bridge is his feeling of failure and desperation and contemplating ending his life because of his percieved shame... It was a powerful song in its day,still is especially now.

I NEVER EVER knew these things you spoke of in the UK.. my goodness, idk how you and your siblings survived but I am happy you did. Life is terrible for so many and it seems only the strong not just physically but mentally make it.. what worse is.. it’s not the case now.. we have made ppl to weak mentally & physically.. nobody knows how to cope yet homelessness is looked at like a DISEASE rather than a tragedy! It’s heartless! I see children on the streets and I want to protect them.. feed them.. tell them that they are gonna be ok.. The laws say I can’t & the parents of the children most of the time use the kids as leverage.. I could go in but you know more than I. Thank-you for commenting and sharing 🙏💕

I grew up during that horrible, creative vacuum of '83 to '87. During that time, there were VERY few tasteful entries, but this guy, Paul Simon, Metallica, Tom Petty, and a VERY few others helped making listening to what was current, a bit more tolerable. This song represents, to me, the power of women. Not women trying to be men. That fails. I believe men and women are equal, but have different powers, and need each other as a compliment. Women have the power to be empathetic, healing, comforting, encouraging, and enduring. It's a shame this current world endeavours to distract them away from that. Love to your family.

Kate didn't really break the US, I don't think they get her. She for me is a complete genius/artist. I managed to see the Before The Dawn concerts which blew me away. Kate Bush set a new Official Chart record in 2014 after becoming the first female in history to score eight albums on the Official Albums Chart simultaneously.

If you listen early Genesis song "Looking For Someone" from the second album the style of singing is already there in the opening line. :) Tony Levin providing the bass lines. Kate Bush has often been compared to David Bowie, utilising various forms of art in his live performances and videos. She also is not afraid to use cutting edge technology while also composing & producing herself.

For an introduction to Kate Bush's earlier work, there's a TV special of videos she did when she was 19, with songs from her first album. While I love all of her work, and the way she evolved from the first time I saw her live on Saturday Night Live back in 1978! Her first 2 albums are still my favorites, and really show her incredible vocal range. She's an incredible romantic poet with her lyrics. And I get chills just listening to hear her sing her songs like "Moving," "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" and Wuthering Heights." While something of a "cult superstar," the same way Rush was a "cult supergroup" for decades in the states, to say she's HUGE in Europe (especially England) is an understatement.
