Rings of Power is great. Tolkien Estate is stupid for not letting Amazon purchase rights to use the Silmarillion in RoP. The Blame lies purely on Tolkien Estate not on Amazon.

I think Peter Jackson and friends will be doing this to ensure it's done 'properly' - before Amazon turns Tolkien into their franchise and make it into the same 'ridiculous joke' that is now Star Wars. I'm hopeful that Peter won't take it down Woke Road. He's no fool. He'll have heard the fans slating the living daylights out of RoP, and he wouldn't dare do us wrong and sacrifice his reputation with some third rate Amazon show. I like the idea that he's taking the filming back to New Zealand. (Green screen technology is all very well, but nothing beats being there). Somehow, taking it back makes it feels that he's confident enough with the story, that he's happy to stake his reputation with the Kiwis too.

The Hobbit was fantastic even if it did deviate from book and the LOTR movies, it still felt like we were in Jacksons Middle Earth setting. I have no excuse for ROP though, it's just straight ass.

There is definitely reason to be optimistic about this but I'm worried that LOTR will turn into a star wars like situation where they will continually milk the franchise and not just let a good thing stay good. Overall I'm optimistic though.

As much as I love the films about the third age I really wish Peter Jackson and his team would do a film about the first age I understand there’s probably issues with that and im not sure how much of the rights he has to the entire legendarium but I still think at least conceptually speaking this would be something to behold. Seeing his take on Morgath and the dragons and and all of that would truly be spectacular especially if he had the same budget rings of power did for each film

I think what makes the original lord of the rings films really special to me were the amazing sets and preparation that went behind them. The reason why the special effects in those movies are so good is that it's not special effects for the most part.

Emotionally charged character arcs make for good films and knowing something profound is going to happen doesn't alter its emotionally impact; the Sam and Rosie arc is such an example; but what does spoil it is seeing it again and again. We don't need to see Pippin and Merry grow up more than once hence Scouring of the Shire scenes would have been almost redundant. My problem is that Aragorn and Gollum have already had profound character arcs and we have seen them change (for better or for worse). Aragorn deciding to join the Fellowship and then accept the re-forged sword i.e. he at last accepted his lineage, and Gollum has had his brief escape from the rings' power over him and also been seen as a very convincing liar. So what will be the new "special moments" in The Hunt for Gollum for the key characters?

I'm sceptical on this, as there is very little source material to go by. What is going to be the premise of the film? What's the story of the characters? Gollum is obviously striving to get his ring back, but the ring can't make an appearance except in flashbacks. Gandalf and Aragorn want to interrogate Gollum to help their quest, but that quest is told in another movie. So who knows what this will be about. A lot will have to be made up. Jackson and Serkis on board gives me some hope though :).

I’m excited in the sense that I’m longing to see more fantasy films on the big screen, and with Peter and Andy behind the production, I know the film will look fantastic. My only concern is that they’re working with vague and loose source material, which means they’re going to have to fill in a lot of gaps. This leaves more room for potential error because they don’t have a fleshed out storyline from the books to guide them. I personally would rather see Peter Jackson adapt another fantasy book series. There is a wealth of fantasy to adapt. There’s also the problem of Aragorn. They’re either going to have to recast the actor or deage him. Neither prospect sounds appealing to me. I feel like this might be a well-made but forgettable film. Of course, it’s too early to judge. Seeing a new Lord of the Rings film certainly appeals to my nostalgic sensibilities, but I just wonder if it’s the right choice artistically.

I have not paid attention to all the online commentary over the years since Jackson & co.'s LOTR. It may all be very well known to most Tolkien/LOTR fans but to me it seems very surprising that Jackson, after the massive success of his LOTR movies, piles of Oscars, worldwide acclaim...somehow didn't have the leverage/control when it came to a follow up project and could be forced into all kinds of nonsense in the Hobbit trilogy. What happened that forced him to "do it their way"? And how stupid was it for whichever studio exec(s) to insist on going far afield from the genius of Tolkien, who...you know, created the world, the wonderful characters, the story arcs, amazing depth and myriad details ..."nah, we don't need to care about what Tolkien actually wrote, we can make it better".
@factorfantasyweekly

As for the Hobbit trilogy, there was a Warner executive in control who was not great and no longer is in that position (due to him not being that great). Secondly, PJ came in late to the production and therefore had a shrunk timeline. Del toro was the original director and just dipped out and left the project. PJ salvaged what he could. Something I do believe they relied too heavily on was CGI in those films. The tech was new and improved and too shiny for them to resist. I think they’ve learned their lesson though and will stay more practical with this next film. Thankfully the new executive at Warner who is heading the project was one of the OG’s from the first trilogy and knows PJ. 💪🏼 I have hope!

I'm very skeptical of this projekt, but I don't really think that the skin colour actor that play Arragon is going to make or break the movie. There are some great black actors that would be able to play Arragorn, but they will probably try very hard to convince Viggo Mortensen to reprise his role.

@@anni.68 1) The spectrum of the Sun in Middel Earth could be different from our Sun, so there could be more UV radiation. 2) There is no evolution in Middle Earth, men where created by Eru Ilúvatar. 3) We know for sure that Aragorn has at least some mixed heritage, because has elven ancestry, there could be ancestry from other places as well. I just think they should let the actor that fit the role the best play the part, hopefully Viggo Mortensen, but if he doesn't want to do it then another talented actors.

LOTR was great. The changes from the book seemed to work. There was so much material and so many characters to adapt that it was compressed. The Hobbit was stretched, with fewer characters and material. I haven’t yet got over the unneeded changes. It should have only been two movies. They had a world class source material, but they decided they knew better. ROP was a massive disappointment - and again a failure of adaptation. And yes, I get that their are budgets, and movie tropes to manage - but it seemed to me that changes were being made for changes sake. I am not optimistic about their future projects.
@factorfantasyweekly
@factorfantasyweekly 4 месяца назад
True! But as mentioned in this video, ROP can’t count on Peter Jackson’s record as he and his team (and Warner) had nothing to do with that. Yes, Hobbit is a stain on the legacy for some… but not as bad as ROP 😂

Well, the thing to remember is that Jackson was brought in late to the Hobbit trilogy after the first director quit. He was also under extreme pressure from executives to alter the plot. Obviously it’s not his best work, but he definitely wasn’t as involved or in control as he was for the first three films. Hopefully, Warner recognizes this and gives him and his team complete creative control. It’s in their best interest anyway to do that if they wanna make money!

I really enjoyed the Hobbit movie but, it was not The Hobbit it was something inspired by The Hobbit The Hobbit book was more of a family-friendly book, it was not the monstrosity ( The Hobbit movie was) to even call movie The Hobbit was a huge exaggeration. There was so much added to it that you could hardly tell it had anything to do with this original. Even Tolkien had to edit part of his hobbit story so it could be connected to Lord of the rings. The Hobbit the ring didn't have the sinister effects that it did in Lord of the rings, I was always somewhat disappointed in that. It's probably my one criticism of Tolkien, He creates a book ( The Hobbit ) and then tries to connect it to Lord of the rings where he would have been much better just to have used a different ring instead. other than that I enjoyed the whole series but no I don't expect anything to come out that actually relates to the original story.
