Yea he certainly plays mind games, which is part of negotiations/competing with other dragons, so I can appreciate that. However, I would rather partner with someone like Sarah who has the industry experience as well and was actually enthusiastic about the business. I also won't have to constantly worry about Peter's motives on the back of my head because he is sly.

You're not just getting money and giving out equity, Sarah offered 25% which sounds better but is Sarah going to be able to bring as much value to the business as Peter can? No... also if you listened closely Peter's vision of the future of the business lined up much more with theirs, the reality is you can give a smaller chunk of your business away and grow slower, or give a bigger chunk away and grow faster and stronger, would you rather own a large piece of something small, or a smaller piece of something big?

Absolutely. She was right to be confused: although their idea was to market a sauce, marketing a sauce is exceptionally difficult. The success of Reggae Reggae sauce is because it was a cultural phenomenon, it struck at the right time, and even then Peter said that it was very difficult to succeed! They had a successful food truck and the opportunity to work to expand that concept with someone experienced in numerous successful restaurant businesses, it was a big mistake to go with Peter. Since this aired, the brand has had no meaningful success and has a negative balance sheet. If the restaurant had been a success or even a failure they could have gone back to the sauce.

Doesn't look like they are doing well from their accounts at Companies House-still in Tesco, Sainsbury's & Ocado-but their products are really cheap at around 70 pence & currently Sainsburys look to be selling them at 55 pence currently-the prophecy of being squeezed by the supermarkets looks very true.

Her idea of focusing on the street truck/korean restaurant chain was far better than the more competitive "lets make a sauce and put it in all the major supermarkets". There's a gap in the market for Korean Street food but theres like dozens of korean sauces in Tescos and such.

I also feel a big weakness is that yes, Peter has built a sauce brand before. So it gains lots of traction just from that: "oh, Peter is behind *another* sauce? It's gotta be good, I'll try it!" but the result will be "Well, it wasn't as good as Levi's". Of course they fill different spaces in the shelves, but it's not going to be another Levi's because no one will ever be another Levi's. Don't try to be better at someone else's game; make your own game and you will rule it.

@@Paaraadox Also Reggae Reggae Sauce was lucky too be honest. It appeared on Harry Hills TV burp the week it aired and Levi Roots appeared on the show a few times after that singing songs. So it wasn't really Peter Jones it was more just luck that Levi Roots got on Harry Hill.

I think they got what what they asked for, Its kind of sad how people are attracted to money and not personality. Sarah has style, class and a personality, while Peter is just cold hearted, blood thicker than lava.

To be fair, they pitched a jar sauce, and Sarah really seemed set on taking on Nando’s, something they had never even brought up.

They wanted jars in the supermarkets, Sarah was talking about opening restaurants which wasn't in their pitch.

They were pitching the sauce and Peter is the sauce expert, so the gave up just over 4% equity each to secure Peter and become equal partners.

I agree too. There aren't many Korean restaurants out there and Korean food is great. And since they have their own sauce, they'll have their own appeal to customers that no other restaurant can offer. Just like McDonalds secret sauces. Korean food is really really good too. Especially their fried chicken. I would recommend people go to Korea just to get fried chicken, it's that good. But yeah. Restaurants is where the money is for this couple. But they done screwed up.

There's a gap but not much of a demand. Korea has been a major international country for two decades now, if there was a demand for Korean food it would have taken off by now. Even Thai food is a lot more popular.

Korean food has become super popular in North America, especially Korean fried chicken and bbq shops. I'm really surprised it's not gained the same momentum in the UK
