Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette felt New York's series loss to the Florida Panthers came down to being shut down offensively. After getting timely scoring throughout the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Rangers met their defensive match in a Panthers team that allowed just four goals on the road at MSG and only five goals total in Games 4, 5 and 6 to finish off the series.

Breadman is definitely not built to play against a team like the Panthers you could see he's too small and he doesn't have the room and time to make those little dipsy Doodle moves and make passes through about three or four people.

need more aggressive forecheck, physicality, defense, skating with the puck, handling, more minutes for our smaller names, will to show up and win, and everything else. we got outplayed and there was no response but frantic passing and getting run over in our own end. igor was the real hero. let's see what changes get made this off season.

The amazing thing is they actually had a chance to win games that they probably shouldn't HAVE, because of their goalie if they make a few moves here and there they could definitely be a lot better! LGR!!

I disagree, he had guys who were no shows for 12 games and only a handful of players who brought some good play throughout. Mental mistakes and the lack of tenacity to keep the puck out of the defensive zone was just the difference with a team like Florida. The Rangers played in spurts and couldn’t sustain any offensive pressure in Floridas zone. The shots on goal differential was atrocious. Had Bob faced as many consistent shots as Igor did, this series would have been over in 5.

Thought Laviolette's comment on the Panthers defense was telling. They were excellent but certainly Rangers had no net front presence the entire series, no one willing nor able to fill that role when the Defense was pouring on shots from the point either by design or otherwise.

We were punked as simple as that. We had no one to stand up to their bullies! That's their game and biggest advantage and they play it to the hilt. They whole series on every play it took two Rangers to handle one Panther to even get him off the puck. Our stars don't have the strength and physicality of theirs and I don't know how you fix that. We're obviously one of the best teams in the league in open space but the dump and forecheck game eats us alive just not physical enough yet.

NYR need to make Lafreniere their premiere goal scorer, Trade Mika & Trouba for some real defensive minded stud(s) and let Rempe play. NY lacked physicality allowing FL players to get in a offensive groove.

It isn't rocket science, they got very little in this series from Kreider, Mika and Panarin. Trouba didn't measure up, Gus is a turnover machine (they really should have tried Jones at some point), Fox was clearly injured ... Chytil had some rust, Cuylle hit a wall, Roslovic skates well but has no real hockey IQ.

As a Rangers fan you have to be incredibly disappointed once again this team time and time again can't get over the hump never win these big series that's 4 consecutive times that the Rangers have had a 2-1 lead in the ECF and lost the series. I don't know where they go from here after having the best season in the history of the franchise they still come up empty

This is why there are so many fair weather fans. The constant disappointments. It’s very hard being a Rangers fan. They hype you up only to constantly let you down. It’s the culture of this club. Really believe this club and owners are just about hype and not winning. As long as NYR are generating $$$, management and NHL are happy either way. Drury needs to make some huge moves. Lots of dead weight on that team with a heavy presence of Absent and soft players. Congratulations to Florida, they exposed all of our weaknesses which hopefully Drury will ID and change.

@@Unionjoint Well said. I think the Rangers need to step back and enjoy the accomplishment of this season to be sure. We need to make some changes in for the 24-25 seasons. Mika I think needs to be traded and we need to consider shopping Panarin around. Trouba has become a defensive liability and likely because he is either playing hurt or has lost a step and this needs to be evaluated over the summer with a decision to be made. Krieder is a keeper, I think with stronger forwards his size will help him and still the best NHL player in the front of the net. Miller needs to mature and ue his 6'5" frame to start intimidating as opposed to trying to play finesse defense. Ultimately this Ranger team needs to control the puck but have a more physical presence about them spread out over 4 lines not just one line that rarely gets used when they are behind. Drury needs to look at the free agent market and makes some moves while maybe investing youth because Laffy and Sshesty are the guys you build this team around for the future!

@@Unionjoint I wouldn't call it "fair weather". It's silly to get too emotionally involved with a sports team. And it's silly to get your hopes up and get so invested when a team continually shows you they will fold at the end. That's what they do, that's their history, it's pathetic. And I completely agree with you on Igor. I feel so bad for him as I did Hank. They need a superhuman goalie to carry players who fold and can't give them support when it matters most. After game 4 I knew they were losing and really thought there is no point really taking this organization seriously anymore.

I understand the players have a lot to do with this loss. When you play a team like the Panthers or any team that is as organized or physical as the Panthers, you have to step up your effort. I feel the effort was lacking the majority of the series. However, players are creatures of habit, they will continue to do what they are comfortable doing, even if it is not working. It's the job of the coach to see what the opponent is doing and adjust. Pete has a ton of experience, and yet, this team looked lost the whole series. They adjusted in no shape or form to withstand Florida. This is s team loss. Two years ago, we got smashed by TB 4 straight games, I feel the first two round wore us out and we ran out of gas. May year, we underestimated NJ and their speed killed us. This year, we had the perfect first round, we had a wake up call but good series against Carolina, we just got beat by a better team. Simply stayed, we got out played, out coached, pushed around the whole series.

Laviolette can't be absolved. His desire to screw with the lineups, trying to force back players like chytil and wheeler who hadn't played in months disrupted the rhythm of this team quite a bit, his distrust of using Rempe even though the team was winning almost every game with him in the lineup. Didn't really see too many adjustments made in this series, and just decided he would go down with the ship in terms of how his team would play. I won't say he was the main reason, but he played a big part in this collapse.

@@pbmc_ without a doubt could have helped. Especially with having a hobbled Fox and a skating defensive liability in Trouba. Jones speed and puck handling out of the defensive zone could have been the bit of difference in keeping the panthers from getting comfortable and settling up shop. Waaaaaay to many shots on Igor because of the poor play to clear and keep the puck out of the zone.

@@Wu_36 this was long before vesey got injured. The rangers playoff run changed starting in game 3 of the Carolina series when Chytil was inserted into the lineup. Albeit they won that game but needed a crazy deflection from panarin. Then they needed a miracle third period performance from Kreider to advance in game 6. But once chytil came back this team was never the same. I like chytil he's a very good player, but bringing him back and taking Rempe out changed the entire complexion of this team.

Better yet how many minute was he on the ice when inserted into the lineup? No knock on the kid but a complete knock on the top 3 and the other usual suspects who fade when the tough gets going. They did this to Galant and they did it again to Lav. Not his fault. HUGE fault of the top core guys. CHOKE

Rangers were outplayed in the Carolina series, too. Igor stole that series. That, and several bad goals given up by Andersen were the determining factor. They were outshot every game but 3. Plus, the big boys once again disappeared like they have in the past, never to be seen again.

Drury took over to "beef" up the team. Then they gave the team to Laviolette, and he did what he could with what he had. EVERYONE thought WOW, what a team during the regular season. Now listen to them. This is a disappointing and a bit of a devastating loss. Some heads will roll. I think one gown will be penarin. He was not good in the playoffs last year and this year, despite his promise. Trouba is iffy. Wheeler will be gone. Laviolette will stay, but hire a different asst. coach or two.

This style of hockey doesn’t win cups. Lavi needs to tell boys to forecheck as a team and get pucks deep and NEVER glide to pucks. Also he is another coach that fails to see Laffy Chytil and Kakko is our top line and our best players that can play playoff hockey.

Bottom line you played hot potato with the puck too many games, there was fear to maintain the puck and skate with it and get movement just simply turned it over to Florida a zillion times in the middle of the series , then a new thing the6 loved these back handed weak passes that also resulted in turnovers everytime and goals including Gustafson on the goal Tarasenko scored that gave them that sequence x He also screwed us when we finally had a 5 on 3 we DESPERATELY needed. Panarin just dissapears fine u wanna keep him cool but you need guys with GRIT like the kid you got rid of Vatrano guys like that kid when you have a telented team will start the wheels, get rid of wheeler too old, Gustafsson if you cant correct his mistakes, Roslavic i can do without. BRING GRIT TO THIS TEAM AND GIVE ME TORTS BACK HE WILL HAVE THESE GUYS HOLDING A CUP

Kreider needs to go. He is one dimensional. If he had Lafrenier’s aggressiveness he would be better but he is not physical enough.

As I watched this series the Rangers seemed to be wearing down. I blame the coaches for that. You don’t have to look back very far to see the San Antoino Spurs in the NBA during their championship seasons the coach knew his star players needed rest going into the playoffs and he did so. Not this coach. I am sorry the regular season thing is nice but all to often it catches up with you. It did here. Some players were better than others but when you’re low on energy it’s hard to produce. Some changes are in order I agree.

It's All referee fault. They were not favoring Rangers. Dopesterkin Shisterkin did not dope enough with enhancing drugs or doped too much and his body started giving out.

You fail to realize the Panthers are a good team. Every game was close, 3 went to OT. Yes, the Rangers need to make a few changes, but they're not a slow or weak team.

Hahaha!! As a hardcore caps fan this is fun. Lavt sucked coaching caps. We look so much better with a young hungry coach who got caps back in playoffs. A huge win. Having traded away much of the scoring they STILL made playoffs, but of course had no chance in the playoffs this year. Only a couple years away from being a contender again unlike the rangers who won’t get there. Already next year caps Willie better. Will score more, let in less and win a round or two possibly. Was so cool sticking it to the penguins, philly and Detroit. Rangers have zero to show for their work. Didn’t do anything more than caps cause both teams lost playoffs & both lost last game. Crosby hasnt had playoff success in eight years best spring.

So many unforced errors not even knowing where to put the puck and then trying to hit players and putting himself so far out of position that it makes it easy for them to score! Just don't forget Fox wasn't exactly tearing it up out there!
