Peterbilt 589 flat top conversion in progress!! 

That flat top with the sleeper is something Peterbilt should offer. That instantly made the silhouette recognizable.

I like how you guys keep your shop's clean and organized. I can't wait to see the truck done.

That is really going to help the look of that truck, and the stand up sleepers are really nice, but I gotta be honest, I still like the cab and sleeper both flat. Your brothers shop is incredible. I like hands on videos so I just went over and subscribed.

I really like that flat top! Reasoning being that from the looks of it the roof wouldn't have to be chopped for a car hauler. This would save me money possibly lol.

Guys, I love your work and I sure wouldn't want to see you get injured . So please wear gloves when handling sheet metal panels like that roof panel with razor sharp edges. My employee in our Collision Repair Shop had a hood slide just a little in his hand because the awkwardness and not having great leverage with the way he held it. Just minutes later he was in ER getting 15 stitches to the palm of his hand. Great work and can't wait to see another beautiful build. That's one hell of a shop.

My experience with 3m panel bond is great. 2001 Mercedes-Benz panel bonded the quarter panels back on for collision repair on the S class. Plus 3m puts roughly 15 million in R&D just for paint and body supplies

Wow, amazing gents, now if you could do me one favor, you are at the bleeding edge of creating looks for the new 589. Here’s an idea for you, come up with a custom dash that mimic’s the 389 but fits into the 589 cab. I think Pete missed the boat there because in the end this is just another 2.1 meter cab and I’d just run a 567 to get some of the aero - the hood on the 589 doesn’t complete the story for me at least. Again ya’ll do amazing work and I’m sure this is going to be a special piece.

And don’t forget to replace the headlights to a single square on a JJ bracket!

The slipper port is higher than the cab. Now you got an opening up down the top to change the slip on putting on low top roof type.

It looks 100% better with the low roof

The best bet would be to order a flat top then order the raised roof bunk and put it on.

Cant wait till somebody figures out a pipe kit with regular elbows and flex under the cab for these trucks instead of the flex behind the heat shield. Hopefully this signals the end of dummy stack trucks being that you can get active exhaust with matching step boxes, between the stacks vibrating and rotating from not being connected to anything and just overall looking dumb its the number one thing that gets on my nerves 😂😂

Do the tank saddles wrap around a little more on these newer trucks, or am I just seeing things? RIP 389, but glad to see these new units being made into as much as they can be. Also, with the construction of these new trucks, is making the truck a "pop top" by adding a tall roof cap to the sleeper be a more doable thing?

Anything you can do to make a 589 cool is desired. I'm not going to lie, Peterbilt lost its way after 379. 389 was OK, but was the beginning of Peterbilt going Aero in big hood territory. 589 as Peterbilt presents it is horrible. You guys truly make diamonds from coal. Semi Casual is Peterbilt's only hope.

These roofs are the easiest to work on bolt on and glue roof looks to be the same style as the kw t680

I'm a kenworth guy. But that 589 would look so much better with a 2 piece windshield. The windshield is a bad look. I still run 2 piece flat glass.

Just curious. Why didn’t you start with a flat top 589 and then just get a tall sleeper and modify it?

I sincerely respect what yall are trying to do with this 589. I really do. But, Peterbilt (in my opinion) seriously dropped the ball HARD on this new model. The exterior of this truck is just so undesirable now. The windshield, and both driver and passenger door just make this truck look like “tupperware”. Those are the ugliest parts in my opinion. I really wish Peterbilt asked the diehard 359, 379, and 389 drivers on their opinions for a new design. And I’m talkin about senior drivers… Drivers who have ran nothing but 359/379/389 for the past 15-20yrs. (50yrs for the 359). These are the drivers Peterbilt should have listened to. Because these drivers know every single in and out to these trucks. But like I said, I do sincerely respect what y’all are trying to do with this 589. And I cannot wait to see the finish product. I’m truly excited. Would I ever buy a 589, though? Answer is no unfortunately. 15yrs under my belt. 12yrs running 379 and 389’s.

With things the way they are I would be working on a truck to get 9 to 10 Mpg but its your money so have at it I spent enough time not being able to stand up to get dressed and with the extra money made at 9 to 10 mpg I have to stand up to keep it in my pocket on the way to the bank
